To go for the chop? A bob?

Lovelies, my hair’s pretty long (mid-back) and all one length, blonde, there’s lots of it and other people love it (as do I, sometimes!). I’m just yearning for a bob - not the more fashionable ‘lob’ but a jaw length, precision cut, perfect bob

I feel your pain! I had mine cut into a Bob after years of long hair and I loved it. After having a few issues with getting an appointment, the bs k has really grown out, so I’m in an inbetween stage and I’m trying to decide if I should keep growing it (which, tbh, though lovely is a big PITA. I have so much hair and I hate washing it when it’s long) or get a long pixie.

Blah!

a bob*, not a Bob. Though if you happen to know any nice Bobs...! Grin

How does having a bob make your clothes look wrong?

Oddly enough....... I am growing my hair , its a shoulder length non-layered bob now .
I tried on some coats that would've suited me with Pixie hair (I'd have looked 'sharp' )
I usually wear my hair back for work, so seeing my bob hair and these coats just didn't work.
Don't know why ?

Confused

It does depend on your hair and the hairdresser, I can wash, comb through and have a reasonable bob, I would only blow dry to get more volume.

I occasionally use a spray gel if I want waves.

I’m the same. Longish hair now but....it spends all its time in a scrunchie Which is NOT a look for a mature woman in her 50’s. OP, I’d try it, if I were you. Sometimes, all that’s needed is a change. And....it’ll grow 😊

Me now. And the short bob I have in mind.

OP, I love a blunt cut on thick hair. If you try that first you could always add a few layers to give it more movement if you like.

Do it.

Do it! I think you’ll love the change. A haircut can be very liberating 😊

I had long hair since 15 and had it all cut off recently. Don’t regret it at all and everyone says it looks great. I expected everyone to say oh where’s your gorgeous long hair because I’ve always loved long hair but they haven’t!!

LoreleiRock · 05/10/2019 19:43

Yes. Your hair looks like my sister’s. She has had the same hair since she was about 9, she is 40 now. Short hair is much cooler.

OP

If you put your hair into a low ponytail and then pull the elastic down you can hold the pony tail bit up and get an idea of how a bob looks on you.

And another plea for donating your hair.

SuchAToDo · 06/10/2019 07:07

Op since your hair is so long, I'd get it cut to a shoulder length Bob, so you can see how that looks, and see how you feel about it, then if you are still happy about going even shorter then have it trimmed down to jaw length

Remember not ever style suits every face, and it's easier to cut hair shorter gradually, but impossible to stick hair back on if you go too short and decide you hate it

slinkysaluki · 06/10/2019 13:27

Your hair looks quite thick, its lovely. I have uber thick coarse hair, had it in a bob when i was younger then grew it to almost waist length. Reverted back to a bob when i had my first baby and had one ever since until i started growing it last year, now its past shoulders. All i will say is dont have it too short, you need a bit of length to pull the hair down or it will look too bulky. I used to have mine cut every 6 weeks and thinned out severely or it would look too bushy. I had a longish inverted bob, the front touched my shoulders. Nice but lots of styling involved
