To go for the chop? A bob?

Lovelies, my hair’s pretty long (mid-back) and all one length, blonde, there’s lots of it and other people love it (as do I, sometimes!). I’m just yearning for a bob - not the more fashionable ‘lob’ but a jaw length, precision cut, perfect bob

...sorry - and the rest of the message is:

I just think it looks so stylish and ‘done’. Thoughts? Pros and cons? Thanks gurus. xx

Gosh I'm currently debating the exact same thing as I find a bob so much easier to manage. However, I've been growing my hair for ages so I feel I shouldn't cut it off yet. It's currently just above mid back and the longest I've managed to grow it for years. I seem to constantly be in a cycle of having a bob, growing it for a year then having it bobbed again. So my gut is telling me to bob it but my head is reminding me how long it's taken me to grow longer hair so I'm resisting the chop at the moment.

Anyway, all this pointless info is no use for your conundrum. I guess if you're hesitant to go really short straight away then maybe do one of those mid length bobs to see how it feels going a bit shorter. Then if you realise a bob is not for you then it won't take so long to grow back to a decent length. Or alternatively it will make you yearn for a shorter do.

By a mid length bob, I mean something like this.

Literally just ignore everything I've just said. You said you don't want a lob. My reading skills are phenomenal today 🙄

ShirleyPhallus · 02/10/2019 19:53

I had a Victoria beckham pob in about 2007 when it was the height of fashion

I loved it. But it was such an arse to grow out and even 1% humidity in the air gave me a halo of frizz

MeganChips · 02/10/2019 19:56

I’ve just had my hair cut from shoulder length to a short choppy bob and I love it. I feel so much more free.

Pros, I actually feel as though I have a style again. My hair is fine and every time I try to grow it longer I have the same battle with fineness and fluff.

Cons, I have to do it in the morning, I can’t just scrag it back!

Mine is very similar to this.

Just done it. I grow and grow get bored, cut 3 inches off, get layered, grow, get layers re done, then go for the big chop into a sleek bob
Then repeat every 4 years or so Grin
Then everyone comments on how much they love my hair short. Grin
Do it....you'll love it

Betty777 · 02/10/2019 20:59

I think loads of women are walking around with long hair when shorter hair is more interesting and more flattering. If you want to do it, do it. Long hair feels like a bit of a trap to me now- purely because you have to keep it only becuase you've spent ages growing it.......

nzeire · 02/10/2019 21:12

Chopped mine off yesterday, LOVE IT!

Boofybear1 · 02/10/2019 21:30

Do it.😁

Ninkaninus · 02/10/2019 21:33

Absolutely, do it!

It’ll always grow back, and in the meantime you get to try out being a different ‘you’!

MoltoAgitato · 02/10/2019 21:43

Do it. I always revert to short bob (not quite Anna Wintour, but close). Super easy to manage - my hair is fine so long hair goes straggly. A good bob can be sleek, power blow dried or any number of things!

Seeingadistance · 03/10/2019 01:15

Go for it!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/10/2019 01:31

If you have thick hair longer is better. My hair is massive Smileand I spent years with shorter hair. Now it's long it's a revelation - it's so much easier to manage. It hangs much better, doesn't puff out as much and can be tied back if it all goes wrong.

BluebonicPlague · 03/10/2019 01:35

Why is this even a question? Just do it and free yourself.

Go for it! You’ll look fabulous! Does everyone good to have a change once in a while and if you don’t like it, it will grow back but I’m sure you’ll look lovely xx

fairydustandpixies · 03/10/2019 01:43

I did exactly this last week! Went from mid back to a bob just above my shoulders. Have very thick, curly hair.

I have only one thing to say about it and that's wooooooohooooooooooooooo!!!! 😁

sashh · 03/10/2019 02:03

I've just had 27 cm taken off mine, I donate to the little princess trust, and I love it.

It is the third time I've gone from long to short, not always a bob bu this one I love,

Can I please ask you to consider donating? My hair is quite gray
so I may not be bale to donate again.

I don't have a good before - I forgot the hairdresser's but you get the idea of length.

ChickenyChick · 03/10/2019 07:44

Only if you tryst and know your hairdresser (and they won’t give you that speak-to-the-manager cut). A “bob” can mean lots of different things to different people after all!

I like long hair as it’s easier to tie up for sport

KUGA · 03/10/2019 08:49

Thats just long hair surely ?. Its really nice though.

sashh · 03/10/2019 11:37

Thi pics didn't post, let me try again

Miseryisabutterfly · 03/10/2019 22:07

I love having long hair, so it’s a no from me 😂

confusedmaybe · 04/10/2019 16:48

If you cut your hair into a sharp bob, you might find your clothes don't look quite right. I would keep it long. My hair is long now and it is a lot less hassle than the shortish bob I had in my early 20s. That required blow drying, and straightening. I grew it out, which was painful. I love wearing it long

Fresta · 04/10/2019 17:06

How does having a bob make your clothes look wrong? My hair is really short and I'm growing it into a bob because i want it to look good with a bobble hat- having short hair makes you look as if you have no hair when wearing a hat Grin
