And finally ( although not young)
I found this one called «Lillibet and Friends»
Must have been for Willian and Kate’s wedding.

A rare occasion when thé Queen can be with her peers.
2 Queens régnant and 2 queens consort in that photo.

Wow great pictures Curly beautiful genes!

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/10/2019 06:30

The young king Harald looks a bit like Prince William!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/10/2019 07:18

Yes he does @QueenOfTheAndals
King Harald is pretty closely related to HM, I think his grandmother is English

Ninkaninus · 08/10/2019 07:21

There will be a family resemblance as they really are quite closely related.

King Christian IX, ‘the Father in Law of Europe,’ - great grandfather of the Duke of Edinburgh - had six children, four of whom were monarchs or married to a Monarch:

Prince Frederik VIII of Denmark (married Princess Louise of Sweden, father of Christian X of Denmark and Haakon VII of Norway)

Princess Alexandra of Denmark (wife of King Edward VII - their daughter married Haakon VII)

George I of Greece

Princess Dagmar of Denmark (wife of Alexander III of Russia)

(I think I’ve got that right!)

Ninkaninus · 08/10/2019 07:24

Christian IX of Denmark, that is.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/10/2019 07:32

Maud of Wales was his grandmother. She was George V’s youngest sister, so Harald is HM’s second cousin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/10/2019 07:34

That’s impressive @nikaninus

Those genes of Queen Victoria and King Christian have populated ,OST of Europe.

Ninkaninus · 08/10/2019 07:35

It’s really quite fascinating reading right back through the generations of all the various branches of European Royalty.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/10/2019 07:44

I think the Dutch and Monegasque monarchies are the only ones not descended from Queen Victoria or Christian IX.

Ninkaninus · 08/10/2019 07:49

There’s a great painting of Christian IX’s family all gathered at Fredensborg Palace. I wonder if somewhere there’s a list of everyone who’s pictured...

frugalkitty · 08/10/2019 07:50

I really like CPM's dress, it's lovely. It only looks like french navy in the darker pictures though, french navy is a softer navy, not a 'bluer' one. Interesting that she's not wearing her wedding/engagement rings....wonder if Meghan is starting a new trend?

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/10/2019 07:59

@Ninkaninus I think that's Queen Alexandra on the far right of the photo and then possibly María Feodorovna in the middle? Using the process of deduction, the little girl is Princess Thyra and the boy Prince Valdemar, who was the youngest. I can't tell which of the two grown sons are Frederick VII and George of Greece.

Another portrait of the family

I don't think the Swedish RF are particularly good looking, which I think is sort of their strength, they look like average inner city Stockholmers really (with good hair dressers). I really hate that pale blue photo though, so instagrammy and obv colour-staged. Def the new royal PR look. QS was and is (even after her plastic surgery) a very beautiful woman though. That B&W photo is lovely because you see the resemblance to CPV which isn't always obvious. Queen Sonja is also very attractive, she has so much personality and it shows - not "just" bland pretty looks (even though she's beautiful).

There is a fair amount of mutterings in Sweden (read: in the kind of press who care) about how the British RF basically keep to themselves. And I have to say that I think the close ties between the Scandinavian RF have kept their CP:s sane - they have people they know well that understand exactly what they're going through. There's been gradual modernization in the Scandi RF:s and I think it helps that everyone is doing it. I think the younger members of the UK RF would feel better for close ties with people in a similar situation.

Ninkaninus · 08/10/2019 08:01

The Swedish Royal family are of the House of Bernadotte which was founded by a Frenchman, he having been adopted by King Charles XIII who had no heirs.

He was married to Désirée Clary, a Frenchwoman who had previously been engaged to Napoleon.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/10/2019 08:03

@banivani I've seen lots of photos of CPV hiking around Sweden. Seems this is something she's been doing for a while so that she can meet people all over the country?

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 08/10/2019 08:04

@Ninkaninus Indeed. I think Daniel may become the first Swedish-born consort? Some other countries like Denmark and the Netherlands have never had a native-born consort!

Ahahah after looking at the link I realised it’s the wrong one!

I meant to link this one! Which spans the width and breadth of Europe.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/10/2019 08:11

Is that really a painting? It's extraordinary, it looks like a photograph!

Ninkaninus · 08/10/2019 08:11

Maria Feodorovna at centre right, with Czar Alexander III, Alexandra and Edward on the left, King Christian and Louise in the middle, and I think it’s George I of Greece on the far right? Not sure, I’d have to look it up to be certain.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/10/2019 08:17

Def George I of Greece with his distinctive moustache on the far right. Frederick VII (or is it VIII?) next to him?

banivani · 08/10/2019 08:21

The painting is amazing Nink

@QueenOfTheAndals - she asked for the hikes as her 40th birthday present. She's walking all the "landscapes" (counties) of Sweden (usually I believe the largest walking trails). Talk about someone who understands role and PR (but she is genuinely an outdoorsy person).
