Thanks again, @Curly! But that M&S link won't work for me 😢. Will have a hunt through their stuff, nonetheless - you are right, it's the holding and shaping of RM that appeals, plus the detail in the cut and stitching, but without a fussy pattern.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 06/10/2019 10:48

@DevonUkelele
Just look up their Bodycon dresses.

I would totally wear Mouret if I had that lifestyle or budget.
I don’t think the original Galaxy dress has dated at all.

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/10/2019 10:52

Penny Junior comes across like someone who has been brainwashed when she talks about Charles and Diana. So anti - Diana you feel like she sticks pins into a doll whenever she has to type her name.

DevonUkelele · 06/10/2019 10:55

Yes, it's gorgeous! Meghan's night-before-the-wedding dress is still one of my all-time favourite looks on her.

But (and I've just had another look) £1300+ ... eek! (Though they've got a 15 per cent off sale at the moment, if anyone else is tempted.

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/10/2019 10:57

Maybe try eBay @DevonUkelele?

Penny Junor comes across as a little unhinged.

On the subject of Asian clothing, I imagine the hosts would love it if Kate wore it. Have worked widely in S Asia and have even been lent Asian clothes to wear to events as my usual LBD was definitely a style fail for them.

There’s total cultural crossover in Asia. Completely normal to see Hindu women wearing salwar kameez and Muslim women in saris. They all celebrate each other’s festivities jointly too. The concept is called ‘syncretism’ (thank you MN for teaching me) which is completely different to our understanding of multi-culturalism and cultural appropriation. I imagine someone from the FCO is already guiding her.

queenofarles · 06/10/2019 11:32

We lived in various Me countries, attended events in India and Pakistan they do love it when you dress in their national clothes, as they are really proud of it, no idea why some think it’s insenstive or patronizing ?

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/10/2019 11:49

Some would cry cultural appropriation but there's a world of difference between wearing a sari or salwar kameez to an event in India and wearing a Native American headdress to Glastonbury! I've no issue at all with the former.

I think Kate did wear a traditional Bhutanese skirt during their last Asian tour so entirely possible we'll see her in SK in Pakistan.

I think tour hosts sometimes provide traditional dress - wasn’t there some embarrassment on a South Seas tour when someone managed to leave a different island’s outfit laid out for Kate?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 06/10/2019 12:45

I think someone actually swapped the dress so that «their island» would get the kudos! Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 06/10/2019 12:49

We’ve talked about this before, how Kate cracks open the colour and «costume» on an overseas tour.

I thought she looked Fab in Bhutan and she wore that gorgeous sapphire blue sari fabric Jenny Packham dress in India.

I’m sure she’ll wear local designers with both western and Asian styles and a couple of shows topping evening dresses.
It’s only 5 days but I’m really looking forward to this tour.
I hope the Queen lends her some nice jewellery from the vaults.

PinkSun9 · 06/10/2019 12:49

I'm sure Kate will look stunning in salwar suit.

I remember reading somewhere that while Jemima Goldsmith was married to Imran Khan, he had put down a condition that any of Jemima's European family and friends visiting her in Pakistan were to only dress in Salwar kameez during their stay. I think it was Lady Annabel who revealed this.

Spudlet · 06/10/2019 12:54

Curly Yes! Some tourist board (I think) woman snuck in and left a load of clothes, the cheeky wotsit! 😂

queenofarles · 06/10/2019 13:04

pinkSun I know a Pakistani lady who buys fabrics from a place in church street, it’s supposed to be very high end, she sometimes have her clothes made in London or takes them back to Pakistan to have them made there, very fancy stuff, all expensive beaded chiffon , fabric alone can cost £2-3k. Wonder if Jemima or her mother did that thing too?

PinkSun9 · 06/10/2019 13:19

Queenofarles, Jemima herself started an enterprise involving Pakistani women, who created lovely embellished and very expensive salwar suits and gowns which were sold in the UK and of course for all her friends and family. She closed down the business after her divorce from Imran Khan.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 06/10/2019 14:20

Yes, I know people who take outfits to India (similarly) to have them hand beaded.
Shame Jemima’s business closed down. Her contacts must have helped a lot of women in Pakistan.

frugalkitty · 06/10/2019 15:30

Has anyone else seen the pic of James Middleton and his fiancé with her ring? It's beautiful but is a sapphire cluster (possibly square cut, can't tell) which is all the possibilities that are out there, is a bit too like Kate's for me.

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/10/2019 15:44

@frugalkitty Possibly an emerald cut sapphire with two emerald cut diamonds on each size?

Horsemad · 06/10/2019 15:59

Aww, they look happy. 🙂 The ring from what I can see looks very nice.

ElspethFlashman · 06/10/2019 16:02

Yeah I suspect its more like Camillas except with a sapphire as a centre stone instead of a diamond.

I have a lot of time for James these days after being so open about mental health, but sorry for mentioning this..... But frankly I didn't think he could afford a ring that big, I always think of him as being rather broke.

But he's probably "rich broke" which is still loaded, lol.

JaimeBronde · 06/10/2019 16:07

Gorgeous photo of the future Mr & Mrs Middleton!

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/10/2019 16:12

@ElspethFlashman Fortunately he's got Carole and Mike!

OP posts:
Rhubarbisevil · 06/10/2019 16:30

Maybe the ring is from Elizabeth Duke.

ElspethFlashman · 06/10/2019 16:55

It could be a lab created sapphire like mine, which looks well but cost 250 quid. 😂

peridito · 06/10/2019 17:24

Don't seem to be any decent pics of Alizee's ring ,but the setting looks an unusual shape .
