Looking for black leather trainers, to wear with trousers but also ideally to wear with opaque tights and dresses/skirts.

Any ideas please, oh wise women of MN?

I’ve just bought a pair of all black Puma Cali. I wore a white pair to death all summer.

championquartz · 30/09/2019 10:04

Black Puma Cali are a great price here if you're a size 4.

They're nice but I still think I'd prefer something to break up the black.

chipsandgin · 30/09/2019 10:32

I like these: uk.diesel.com/en/sneakers/exposure-iv-w/8054432519205.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=conversion-ADW/UK/EN/DIESEL/SHP/BRN/GENERAL/U/NONE/PLA/MOBILE--GENERAL/U/GENERAL/GENERAL_cross_brand&utm_content=--&gclsrc=aw.ds&&utm_test=test&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsujGzJ345AIVE53VCh25rQC9EAQYBCABEgKiDPD_BwE

They are also half the price on Amazon at the moment..

I prefer a hi-top with black opaques & dresses personally (although was told on here recently that black opaques are so passé! I’m presuming by women whose legs aren’t awful middle aged varicose veined monstrosities!!). I also really like the UGG Starlyns, but they are impossible to find at a good price anywhere at the moment.

yes yes to Gola i love them

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/09/2019 19:00

So far Gola, Puma and Stans are winning! I'm a 4, so will hopefully be able to get children's.

Thanks, everyone.

I'm following this thread too! I'm a size 8 though so a lot of these will look massive on me and I really dislike Hi-tops unfortunately as with massive feet and scrawny calves they make me look ridiculous!

Do you collectively think it's OK to wear black leather trainers with black opaques and a skirt/dress btw? I'm trying to wear more skirts and dresses as I fancy a change but I don't want to always have to wear them with boots - I live in London and it takes AAAAGES to feel chilly enough for boot-wearing down south! Plus I just love the casual feel of a skirt with trainers.

Can't do bare legs anymore and I love my opaques but does it just look rubbish to wear them with (Black, never white) trainers and a skirt?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/09/2019 20:41

hepburn I suppose it depends on the outfit. Today I wore a black polka dot midi length dress, black Veja trainers, opaques, and a black leather biker jacket, and I thought it looked good at least! I have a black leather mini skirt (above the knee rather than arse skimming) and love wearing it with opaques and trainers. I feel like it looks too “fancy” with even flat Chelsea boots, but the trainers make it more everyday.

If you were wearing a more office-y outfit - shift dress and blazer, smart pencil skirt and a blouse - then I think trainers might look a bit odd.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 30/09/2019 20:54

I love those Diesel high tops.

Chipsandgin what is one supposed to wear with dresses in winter then if not black opaques?

chipsandgin · 30/09/2019 21:41

Well I’m definitely the wrong person to ask - I can’t wait to wear my high waist 80 denier spanx! :)

drivingtofrance · 01/10/2019 12:49

Following.

I'm starting a new job soon - and could do with some new shoes.

Casual but not scruffy is generally the dress code where I will be based.

Zinnia · 01/10/2019 13:11

@HepburnKNotA Depends on the skirt... I loathe tights but also my legs themselves so am prone to midi skirts + cut-off leggings + trainers right up until it gets really cold (am in London also). For shorter skirts, opaques + black shoes are absolutely fine IMO

HepburnKNotA · 01/10/2019 13:50

Thanks zinnia and Judy and sorry OP to hijack your thread!!

In answer to your question Judy, no no I absolutely wouldn’t wear black trainers and opaque with an office-type skirt outfit; I work from home in a creative profession so don’t wear that type of skirt ever!

I have just bought a nice midi denim skirt and a midi floaty type black patterned skirt that I am keen to wear with chunky knits, sweatshirts etc in casual fashion, and wondered if black trainers and opaques would look ok in that context.

AnnaNimmity · 01/10/2019 13:55

I had black leather Veja's last year that went with everything. Can't see any the same this year -(mine are 100% black).

My teen daughters wear the Nike airforce!

I like the Veja's posted upthread or these

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/10/2019 14:38

Definite yes to that, hepburn. Today I'm in a short-ish cord pinafore from Warehouse, a stripy Other Stories top underneath, opaques, and black Stan Smiths. I teach, but in a creative subject.

I find coloured opaques work better with a midi-length, personally - I think it's about the eye seeing a "gap" rather than the tights running into the shoes.

HepburnKNotA · 01/10/2019 16:25

Oh Judy that’s a good tip! What colour opaques do you go for? I quite like grey but is that enough ‘colour’? My new floaty winter midi skirt is black with a quite bright mustardy yellow print: should I try mustardy tights??? I’m not sure I want to channel the Malvolio look!!!

LOVE the sound of your outfit btw Smile

EmmaStone · 01/10/2019 16:28

Yes to black Stans. I was lucky and found some at an outlet a couple of years ago that have a bit of leopard print on them. Love them.

I just bought some black leather high top converse on eBay for a tenner, they're fab. Liking the look of some of these as well though.

Am a bit plump at an 18 though so worried about looking out of balance.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/10/2019 19:17

I prefer fishnets with a midi skirt. They create the sort of 'gap' effect that Judy mentions.

I'm going to have a look at the weekend. My ideal would be black Stan but with a white sole, but not sure they exist!

OP posts:
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/10/2019 20:55

remus Fishnets are okay for now, but I am in NE Scotland, so not for much longer! I wear them under wide cropped trousers once it gets colder though.

hepburn I have deep rusty red, mustard, dark purple, grey, and yes, mustard opaque tights. I also have some orange-y ones I bought from Snag, which are called something like Pumpkin, but I am not too sure about them. I wore the mustard ones with a midi dress and white Stan Smiths a few days ago - I really liked it but my DP said my legs looked like I had a disease (?). And thank you re the outfit!

HepburnKNotA · 02/10/2019 09:35

Oh wow Remus and Judy, with your mention of fishnets you are intriguing me...!!

I used to wear fishnets with skirts when I was in mid-20s but not sure how I'd wear them now (well, obviously I would put them onto my legs and walk around in them, that's how I'd technically wear them, but you know what I mean...)

What KIND of fishnet - micro or the big, wide-net kind that look like actually fisherman's nets?

And what colour? Black? Or is that too sexy for every day? I saw a woman a bit younger than me in a fairly professional job the other day wearing nude fishnets and she looked fab in them but would that work?

So, just to clarify, you stylish people on here are telling me I could/maybe even should wear fishnets (of some colour) with a floaty autumnal midi skirt and dark (probably black) trainers - and I will look OK?? Good, even?

I'm 42 (look more like late 30s on a good day, i think) and tall, size 10.

Sorry to hijack your thread again, OP!!

I'm just trying to break out of my style rut of wearing jeans/boots/white trainers or ankle length trousers/trainer ALL AUTUMN/WINTER LONG, and need guidance...
