My bathroom is so boring! (Pic)

Hi can anyone come up with any suggestions as to how to improve the look of my bathroom? I thought about getting a blind but not sure which type or colour. The tiles are beige (not my choice, they were like that when I moved in) and my towels, etc. are purple.

The dark mat and towel are a bit gloomy.

I'd also get a nice cheery blind - a pattern with a white background.

I just think it's a bit dark and gloomy. A plant on the windowsill? Scented candle flickering away? Ideally I'd swap the mirrored cabinet for one of those mirrors with lights around or above, but assume you need the storage.

Katex888 · 24/09/2019 19:03

Can you replace the tiles? I think add a different coloured bath side panel. Add some draws underneath the sink?

ILikePaperHats · 24/09/2019 19:07

@Katex888
No I can't afford to replace the tiles unfortunately. What do you mean by drawers under the sink? Any chance you could post a link please? And a different coloured bath panel sounds interesting! Where would I get such a thing from?

I would replace the pedestal sink with a smart looking cabinet/bowl sink that has storage underneath. All the clutter is messy and distracting. If you don't want to do that, replace the plastic basket with an attractive matching wicker ones on each side of the sink.

Geppili · 24/09/2019 19:53

It is too cluttered. A stylish Roman blind would soften window.
Store all bits in a mirrored cabinet.
Get stick down vinyl tiles in a pretty pattern and match border tiles on bath.
Straighten loo roll holder.
Paint walls a light teal to contrast with white ceramic.

Geppili · 24/09/2019 19:58

Also a mirrored wall mounted cabinet to match.
What is that brown thing above mirror?
Also different window frosting on each window is weird and draws the eye. Make the window film the same and get something like birds on a wire.

Then have a fake roman blind hooked above upper window.

I agree, there’s a lot of ‘stuff’ everywhere so it looks a bit cluttered and messy even though I’m sure it’s well organised and works for you.

There’s different storage solutions like shower racks, mirror cabinets, shelving, under sink storage etc. Whatever fits in your space! I don’t really like the shelves on your mirror though, having a mirror with a cabinet behind will probably give you both extra storage and a cleaner look.

I would remove everything from the windowsill and get a blind ASAP, maybe leave a candle there but I think ‘stuff’ on a windowsill just looks messy. Also you can buy a sink tidy to keep your brushes/toothpaste in. You have the same things out, but it just looks tidier as it all has an actual ‘place’

SallyLovesCheese · 24/09/2019 20:03

You can paint the tiles rather than replacing them. A lot easier too.

Geppili · 24/09/2019 20:03

I am trying to work out my own budget downstairs loo makeover!

halloumi2019 · 24/09/2019 20:03

Sorry, meant a toothbrush tidy instead of a sink tidy! Next sell ones that fit electric toothbrushes

Geppili · 24/09/2019 20:05

Actually are your walls tiled in sandstone?

optimisticpessimist01 · 24/09/2019 21:24

Buy some plants!!! They can transform a room

Lots that could be done OP! It depends on your inclination and budget. I'd get some bathroom storage, nice wooden stuff, with wicker baskets, change the mirror, change the bath panel, add a neutral blind, some greenery, and consider painting the wall tiles.

It's perfectly serviceable as is though.

Deathraystare · 26/09/2019 14:02

If you cannot replace the tiles and don't for some reason want to paint them then at least change your tiles. I cannot imagine how beige and purple would 'go' together but that may just be me!!

Shannith · 26/09/2019 14:08

Flamingo the fuck out of it.

ILikePaperHats · 26/09/2019 15:53

@Deathraystare
What colour would you recommend for the towels?

Needs a big green plant in the window and a nice blind.

dalmatianmad · 26/09/2019 16:07

Are all of the walls tiled?

You defo need a blind, cheapo places like B+M or wilkos sell nice ones. The neighbours must see you through the frosted glass when it's dark and you have the light on? Nice plant on window sill....

Drogosnextwife · 26/09/2019 16:09

You need some sort of storage drawers to keep all that stuff in and a blind on the window. Also floor plant, just because I think they make every room look better

Thelaughinggnome123 · 26/09/2019 16:11

I'd replace what looks like the the mirror with two glass shelves on it with a plain mirrored bathroom cabinet to keep all your stuff in. I'd leave out just the essential stuff not loads of clutter. The window is calling out for a plain white roller blind. Finish with some new fluffy white towels. I'd put a white orchid in a white plant pot in the window. I think it would look lovely.
There's no way I'd paint this tiles, it never looks good.
