My bathroom is so boring! (Pic)

Hi can anyone come up with any suggestions as to how to improve the look of my bathroom? I thought about getting a blind but not sure which type or colour. The tiles are beige (not my choice, they were like that when I moved in) and my towels, etc. are purple.

I came on to say orchid in the window.
De clutter and remove dark mat.
I’d paint the tiles white tbh, just until you can afford to re do it in the future.

MrsJoshNavidi · 26/09/2019 16:29

Put some funky vinyl over the floor tiles

IdblowJonSnow · 26/09/2019 16:35

Looks fine to me!
Just get a blind and a plant or two.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 26/09/2019 16:38

Buying new towels and accessories is a lot cheaper than painting or replacing tiles! I agree, add some plants, maybe some copper accessories, maybe white towels or if a colour something like mustard, wicker baskets, less clutter. You could do this for less than £100.

Better lighting would help

Gertrudesgarden · 26/09/2019 16:57

If you love your deep purple towels, maybe add in a third colour to work with that and the beige - how about a soft green? I personally would put up a blind (uncovered bathroom windows freak me out at night) and add in some nice plants like ferns, which will love the steam. Maybe you could find a freestanding shelf unit second hand that you could paint? I've got an old pine kitchen cabinet in my bathroom, that I painted with a matt paint. My style is rustic so it works for my room.

tryingoutgreyhair · 26/09/2019 17:55

I agree a blind will make a big difference plus a plant. A succulent maybe.

I think the easiest is to go with the theme you've half got, which in your case is earthy/natural so go with eg soapstone or wood accessories rather than plastic/shiny metal

Think tranquil spa

tryingoutgreyhair · 26/09/2019 17:56

On that theme could go for a wooden blind?

QueSera · 26/09/2019 18:15

Maybe under-sink storage to hide away lots of the 'stuff'? Example: Home Treats White Under the Sink Cupboard, Space Saving Bathroom Floor Cabinet https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B019IVQ4O2/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_QepJDbF07N7XJ

Some nice wicker baskets?

Definitely a plant or few, eg a nice ivy.

For towels and bathmat - maybe an nice oatmeal colour? Or taupe or grey? Nice thick fluffy ones make a bathroom feel lush.

Yes I think green would be a good balance against the beige and the purple. Sorry had not meant to be rude - just could not understand putting beige with purple.

Deathraystare · 26/09/2019 18:49

Add a spider or two!!!

springy0c · 26/09/2019 19:06

I have similar tiles . I use a mix of colours of towels.

I've improved my bathroom slightly, within a very tight budget, thanks for tips on decluttering!

That looks much nicer.
My only suggestion would be to not have the container of toothbrushes etc on the mirror shelf, but maybe mount it on wall below mirror, directly under where it is now.
Reason is, every item in that container gets reflected in the mirror so it looks like you've got twice as many toothbrushes.
We used to have loads of things on a similar mirror shelf and it just doubled the clutter

letsjog · 08/10/2019 14:28

Looks much better. I second, the toothbrushes would look better below.

Also if you still have a little left in your budget (I know this is a bit Mrs Hinch but I think it would really work for you) I would get something like this next to the toilet so you can put the cleaning bits and any spare bits and bobs in there. I can see you've got some stuff under the sink now it would tidy it up nicely.

Where is that storage bin from please? I really like it

letsjog · 08/10/2019 14:35

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo from what I've seen you can pick them up on eBay, home bargains, the range etc

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 08/10/2019 14:57

Thank you

Geppili · 08/10/2019 15:33

Looks great! Love your blind.

Our bathroom has pretty much the exact same (rather ugly) tiles as yours does. We rent so can’t do much about it as it’s a ‘no decorating allowed’ let. I’ve got a blind up that’s got some bluey- grey tones and some light green in the patten. I have a mix of grey and green towels and bath mats and they go fine with all the beige. My biggest annoyance I have to put up with is the door. It’s got that awful fake pine paint affect that was popular in the 90’s. It would look a million times better is we could just paint it white. I did also contemplate yellow for a while as I thought the bright colour would have lifted the beige a bit. I agree with others about getting some sort of under cabinet unit. I’m sure Argos do one pretty cheaply. It would give you storage under for bottles and toilet rolls and a shelf to store toothbrushes and get them off the mirror. Have you thought about lights above your mirror? You can get push lights that stick to tiles and run off a battery if you don’t want the faff of getting some wired in.

I previously lived in a place where we had free reign to decorate (because it was a shithole and the landlord refused to spend any money on the flat whatsoever- even to the point we had no ceiling in our bathroom in the last year we lived there as it fell down due to flooding from above and the landlord didn’t care and wouldn’t claim insurance to get it fixed - it was the reason we left in the end after 8 years of living there and spending a fair bit to make the place look nice). Anyway when we moved in we changed the bathroom from a hideous bright yellow walls with dark blue glossed skirting/door/window frame to an off white with lilac and purple accessories and it looked a million times better. We also tiled (and replastered) the wall round the bath and shower with nice white tiles as it was badly done with rotting wood panelling (in place of tiles) when we moved in. Sorry going off topic a bit but I really did love my old bathroom decor. Your purple accessories in the first photo would have looked nice in it.

ILikePaperHats · 08/10/2019 17:39

Thank you @letsjog ! I have ordered the bog roll storage unit from Argos. That will be a big improvement. Smile
@WhereDoesThisToiletGo do you know, you're totally right but I've thrown away all the fittings to mount it on the wall, damn it! Confused
