Has anyone decided to ditch their skinny jeans for winter?

Just curious.
I’m seeing more threads and discussion about moving away from this winter staple.
Me too, but to be honest I am having issues trying to adapt my coats to skirts/dresses, as I don’t like other trouser styles.
But I still feel,Ive had enough of them, even though they go with everything .

I’m curious how people will dress for winter otherwise especially on days when you really need to cover up from rain/wind.

Not winter yet, but I wore a navy flared midi skirt with a grey jumper today with tights in the rain and wind and it wasn’t that bad, no more so than in jeans really.

Is it that we’re just used to skinny jeans and skirts feel weird in comparison? It’s not like they don’t get wet......

Well we used to manage before skinny jeans became fashionable so I think we can cope again if we want to!

Musicforsnorks · 23/09/2019 19:02

That’s true, and yet they are so damned convenient!
It’s a mind-set now, I suppose, but I’ve fallen out with them and it won’t rekindle.
Im soooo comfy in skirts, etc, that it feels liberating. I have ibs and jeans really aggravate my...pelvic region Grin

I like skinny jeans, but I'm going to make an effort to wear other things this autumn/winter. I like dresses with a mid-heel ankle boot, I will wear midi skirts and dresses with knee-highs (they're making a proper comeback-yay!), and that's it really. I prefer wool, smart coats, but sometimes on the school run, a hooded coat is needed. I feel much more 'put together' with e.g. my camel coloured Hobbs coat than my Mint Velvet hooded long jacket thing.

Yep - they look passe now. I am into wearing slim/straight legs rolled up with western/slouchy boots right now. I have noticed a lot of women just look shite in them lately for some reason.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 23/09/2019 19:05

I really like the bootcut/flared jean look too. Definitely ready for a change....

Amcor · 23/09/2019 19:06

Fuck no. My boots go over them and the wind doesn’t whip them up.

Got some wider legged trousers... tripped over them in the wind.

TantricTwist · 23/09/2019 19:07

No because skinny jeans fit into boots so for that very practical reason I'll still be wearing them.

which1 · 23/09/2019 19:09

I tend to default to jeans and jumpers in the winter, because I don't find (even thick) tights keep your legs warm like trousers /jeans do.

Also, I think jumpers look odd over dresses and can only put cardigans with dresses so harder to keep your top half warm.

That said, some poster yesterday started a thread about warm winter jumper dresses that has sparked an interest in me; thick tights and knee high boots. I've got an eye on an Esprit one now..

Musicforsnorks · 23/09/2019 19:11

It does seem I have to think less if I wear them through winter.
Adapting my style and coats and shoes to other stuff is making me think too much ;) and I dare say I’ll have to spend a bit more to accommodate a new ‘style’. Uuurgghh!

But they’re so uncomfortable to me, even tho I’m slim. In fact in doubt body size makes a difference really, it’s more about how we feel..

Uncomfy, but so bloody practical!

I used to only wear skirts and long boots during the winter months and I wore very long black over the knee socks with them because I hated tights. I was always warm because I wore long padded coats.

Now I wear jeans, shorter boots and padded jackets instead.

Musicforsnorks · 23/09/2019 19:15

There MUST be a hooded coat somewhere that goes with a skirt/dress and boots!

Dresses/skirts are easy- thermal tights, knee high boots, a cardigan (do it up and unbutton when you remove your coat) and a coat that comes to at least mid-thigh. Jeans I’m also wondering about as skinnys are so easy to fit into my snow boots but I’ve been really liking wider leg styles recently. If I still lived in the U.K. and had mild winters then I wouldn’t be giving this a second thought though. Sadly it gets rather artic here so winter clothing and the possibility of trudging through snow whilst commuting need ample consideration!

Musicforsnorks · 23/09/2019 19:19

@TantricTwist what made you change from wearing that?
Did you just get tired of it?

Ive discovered this summer I love wearing dresses! I had to chuck some jeans as they were worn out to holes. I dont want to wear jeans again, so I`m looking at short / knee length dresses that will go with warm tights or leggings/ boots. I do have a thigh length winter coat already from last year= toasty.

Musicforsnorks · 23/09/2019 19:21

Only going off internet and stuff but I notice skinnies aren’t As popular in Scandinavia.....although I do see them wearing very long wool coats. Perhaps they don’t get as much rain? They must know what they’re doing in the snow though!

I `ve even been looking at Mand S slips for under dresses lol! I feel more put together in a dress. I feel like waynetta slob in jeans !

maybe I just grew up!

CadburysTastesVileNow · 23/09/2019 19:23

Is it true that leggings are coming back??

MariusJosipovic · 23/09/2019 19:24

I've completely given up jeans. Since having my kids by C-section(s) my body shape doesn't suit them, they fall down all the time and I don't like the right denim on my scar even years later.

I've just bought a whole load of leggings made from trouser material (treggings?) which I love. M&S (I know, I know) had a great selection of materials, lengths etc and not very expensive. I've got some cord ones, some checked black trouser material, some animal print, some knitted herringbone. I wanted some I could wear to work as well and they look smart enough. They work with boots, shoes and trainers.

The only downside I can see so far is that I love a tucked-in loose top and you can't really tuck in with treggings. Yes, I'm calling them that.

Musicforsnorks · 23/09/2019 19:24

@norfolkskies sounds like me, wearing dresses over summer led me to dreading going back to jeans. It just feels more ‘me’.

But then i like rural styles/country stores so adapting is weird. I do florals or much pattern.

But coat length - I’m not sussing it out sadly!

MariusJosipovic · 23/09/2019 19:25

Oh I do agree with the above though - I have lived in dresses all summer and hoping to re-wear with tights and cardigan over winter.

norfolkskies · 23/09/2019 19:25

i was thinking of the leggings with just over knee type dresses as instead of tights? / jumper dresses/ tunics and things.

Musicforsnorks · 23/09/2019 19:26

Sorry, I meant ‘I don’t do florals or pattern’

Annasgirl · 23/09/2019 19:26

Oh ladies this is my thread. Like you OP I am no longer comfy in skinny jeans - and they don’t make me look good even though I am very slim. I’ve worn dresses all summer and autumn and was wondering what to do for winter.

RezCowgirl · 23/09/2019 19:27

Cable knit or thermal tights with stretchy tube skirts or tweed shorts are my current staple this autumn. It's not cold enough that I need anything more than a leather jacket and scarf till it gets closer to the depths of winter. My only and last pair of jeans are starting to wear thin in the crotch but I'm thinking of leaving it a few more months before I need a replacement. I'm considering a pair of high waist straight leg Levi's.

MariusJosipovic · 23/09/2019 19:29

Please point me in the direction of tweed shorts! They sound awesome
