As always, let's critique the clothes and not the wearers.

I wonder how much of that supplement on Kate’s "style evolution" has been stolen from our threads?

And credit to Eugenie for her work with the anti-slavery collective but that certainly jars when you consider her dad and his friends.

Another 100% Irish lurker here. I keep a tab open on my iPad at all times with these threads on so that I don’t miss anything.

Love Beatrice’s ring.

Think her slimy fiancé may break her heart. 🙁

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 28/09/2019 14:37

Will Edward and Sophie still receive the dukedom of Edinburgh?
I thought not as Charles is keen on slimming down the royals and they will be surplus to requirements when he is king.
Looking at the dukedoms available there is hardly so it wouldn’t surprise me if Louis is the next duke of Edinburgh

gingercat02 · 28/09/2019 14:39

HM has already publicly promised Edward the DoE title I think so Charles couldn't possibly go back on that. Edward has been doing lots of the DoE award stuff for sometime now

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 14:48

Yes for Kate family quite literally is ‘Queen and Country.’ It’s a job and a duty (a well paid and hugely privileged one, of course) with a great deal of history and heritage and yes, responsibility, to some extent, attached, and I think she’s embraced it well and is doing a good job of it, balancing having young children (one of whom is a future King) with wider aspects of the role.

And to some extent she ‘has’ to be boring. It’s part of her job to be that way.

eggandonion · 28/09/2019 14:50

Just confirming that I have reregistered solely to add to the general Irishness - from NI but longterm resident in the Rebel County!

AravisTarkheena · 28/09/2019 14:53

Kate’s family is not ‘the country’. I’m actually surprised she’d be quoted on something so anachronistic and old skool. It’s a meaningless glib statement for the DM.

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 14:56

It is in the sense that given there still is a monarchy that is how it works. We could argue for years on whether or not there should be a monarchy and rationale for opposing positions, but the fact is there is one, and being ‘old school’ is exactly its strength and further, its function.

AravisTarkheena · 28/09/2019 14:57

Apparently the wording of this ‘quote from a palace insider’ was “Queen, country and family come first” which is less wanky but also pretty meaningless. It wasn’t an actual quote from Kate.

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 14:59

I’m not arguing with you on the glibness of DM ‘quotes’, mind! Just to make that clear. Smile

BertrandRussell · 28/09/2019 15:00

The monarchy is an institution whose sole purpose is its own perpetuation.

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 15:13

That may be true when the monarchy is considered in isolation. But from a sociological or anthropological perspective I think there is another function and purpose, which paradoxically I believe may well come to matter more and have more importance as that institution seemingly becomes less relevant.

JaimeBronde · 28/09/2019 17:07

I also always check this thread first.
And agree it's a great thread with great people.
One of these days we shall have to have at meet up.......at Buckingham Palace of course.

AppleKatie · 28/09/2019 17:34

No chance you’d all find out how shit I am at dressing myself 😂😱

Stargazer9 · 28/09/2019 18:28

Another lurker here, although sadly neither Irish or stylish. Like other posters, I found these threads in turbulent times and ml they have been my escape ever since. I also have the latest thread open on a tab on my phone so I can access it easily. It's the only thing I look at regularly on the site.

I love the style chat, the history, the gossip! I didn't know Max existed until I discovered these threads and now I'm a bit in love with her (does she remind anyone else of Donna from Suits? Something in the facial expressions/mannerisms, I think).

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 28/09/2019 18:37

I could pass for Irish with my colouring, does that count?

I love these threads but I back off a bit when people start having digs at each other. Luckily it doesn't happen too often.

paradyning · 28/09/2019 19:01

Thankfully the having digs is a very rare thing. I've only really noticed it in this thread and maybe once or twice before.

Anyho. I love Megs' billowy, casual top today. Very cunning and something I need too at 4 months pp.

frugalkitty · 28/09/2019 19:30

Well my style motto is 'if I can't wear jeans or pyjamas I'm not going' so I certainly won't be leading the S&B charge at any meet up Blush

JaimeBronde · 28/09/2019 19:46

Well I want to meet @frugalkitty because I want Mark Ruffalo in my airing cupboard (when it's tidy) & I want to know how you do it........seeing you are the expert 😂🤪😂

JaimeBronde · 28/09/2019 19:54

Mind you we may all get too excited & storm that tiara shop www.bentley-skinner.co.uk/?utm_source=Google%20My%20Business%20listing&utm_medium=Organic. Grin Grin

pastaparadise · 28/09/2019 20:19

Wow Jaime that shop looks fine and eye wateringly expensive

I only think Kate would be boring to sit next to as she u understandably has to be guarded, polite and 'appropriate' as part of her role. I imagine once you're trusted and part of her circle she'd be funny and warm. Not a loose cannon perhaps, but fun.

It must be enough to tip you into silence/ anxiety to know that everything you say will be analysed and commented on.

banivani · 28/09/2019 21:00

Chiming in to agree that the monarchy is finding some new relevance in these modern times and it will be interesting to see how far it goes. It’s already becoming apparent that we can’t keep things the way they are with the members being in a gilded cage with not all human rights. By which I mean that they can’t choose their religion (except Märtha Louise, bless her) and have to at least formally have their spouses approved etc.

thisenglishlife · 28/09/2019 21:17

In terms of Irishness, I'm as Irish as anything else (have one grandparent each from Ireland, Italy, Germany and Austria) but English raised.
