A thread for those of us who still quite like Boden

I know, I know. It's not high fashion, it's not sexy, the fabrics can be questionable and some of the prints look like eighties Lura Ashley on speed. But I'm a 41 year old working mother and no one else at work, at the school gates or on the parish council looks fashionable or sexy either. And Boden does provide a reliable range of decent quality basics for an okay price ( once you find your obligatory discount code). Also, I live in the sticks and, while I often go to Cambridge and London for work and play, I don't want to spend too much time hauling around the shops. Although I've discovered a Cos and a Jigsaw conveniently close to my station, which could be expensive.

I've just bought a Hengeave coat in Airforce blue to wear for the Autumn. And I picked up this dress which looks gorgeous on the model, so fingers crossed my matronly behind doesn't frump it up too much. Anyway, any other fans please do come along and share your finds. I'm think I'll buy a silk shirt next and possibly a tweed blazer later in the year.

I short and look nice in the Jersey dresses! Looking nice isn't reserved for the tall!

Sarcelle · 20/09/2019 13:13

@Sooverthemill Just ordered some in size 12 petite. If they are any good I will get a black pair too.

Cohle · 20/09/2019 13:26

The mid-price jersey dresses though are completely unflattering unless you're tall and slim.

I think that's a bit of a sweeping statement, and one likely to cause offence on a thread of boden wearers!

Sooverthemill · 20/09/2019 13:47

@Sarcelle yay! I hope they work for yiu

just my opinion. You're welcome to disagree!

Most of my clothes are from Boden and Joules.
I've just bought this www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/favourite-knitted-tank/sty-k0019
It is GORGEOUS!

Justkeeprollingalong · 20/09/2019 18:44

In black, although I also fancy the white, red and navy 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP, you don't need to justify shopping at Boden. It's just fashionable to dislike it because Mumsnetters dis anything they think is mainstream and popular.

It's like any other shop- they sell so much there is bound to be something you like. If you get a discount it's not really expensive and the quality is decent compared to much of the hughstreet. I like some of their blouses, their shoes fit well and genrally have leather linings which I like and they have some nice dresses- although I don't like a lot of their colours. I prefer quite muted colours like khaki, cream and taupe which they don't do well. If I want a splash of colour they are great though!

Ellapaella · 20/09/2019 19:33

What I love about Boden is the customer service. The returns and refunds process is also very very good compared to other online brands. If I had an office job or didn't have to wear uniform to work I'd be buying a lot more from Boden - I think it's perfect for this.

WellTidy · 20/09/2019 19:42

Their petite range is absolutely massive, way bigger than anyone else’s. Don’t know what I’d do without it, really. I love Boden for myself and for the DSs.

I bought a lot there this summer - the Amelie dress was great so I bought it in five different colours, a black collared, three quarter sleeve, wide leg jersey jumpsuit was absolutely perfect, plus a midi denim colour straight dress with a gathered waist.

DS1 has ten or so tops from there for autumn and winter plus two sweatshirts. I buy his joggers from next though, better value for money.

Furryfatface · 20/09/2019 20:12

I've gone off Boden. I got Ted Baker coat this Autumn and JDWillians shoes. Plus Fat face things. They need to watch the quality.

Sarcelle · 21/09/2019 18:49

The jeans I ordered yesterday have arrived. Blooming quick delivery.

The jeans are very good quality and I like the colour of the indigo denim, and they fit. I thought the leg length would be too long. However they bag around the knee, really odd. These were the slim straight. I am really disappointed I have to return them.

I am beginning to think I don't have the body for full length jeans. They just don't sit well on me. I have no problem with crop ones.

Oh.. was just going to complain that I don't like Boden dresses for winter because of their preference for 3/4 sleeves then saw the link to the Abigail dress, which is exactly the sort of thing I would wear to work.

Oly4 · 24/09/2019 13:59

I agree their customer service is second to none

Fresta · 29/09/2019 11:46

I've just ordered a couple of items I think are nice

Good heavens Boogle - you managed to find a dress without Viscose in it (fall down in a sarcastic faint!). It looks very nice!
