Are knee high boots dated?

Ankle boots + dresses don't suit everyone. That combo certainly doesn't suit me. Maybe it's because I am only 5.2" and carrying a little extra weight (size 10 top, 12 bottom at the moment - working on it).

I have tried with opaque tights, knee long dresses and ankle boots but it looks absolutely awful. Knee high boots, however, look pretty good on me, as long as they don't end too high up my knee (or too short on my calf) which being short is a challenge in itself.

Has anyone seen any nice knee high boots this year with a block 6cm (ish) heel and pref a platform? Cheers!

I hope you are right Mayor!
Those boots you've linked to are very nice. No good for me as the length is 45cm and my max is 40! Being short is a pain let me tell you.

I don't care if they are. I have 2 pairs of leather knee high boots. Different heel heights. I live in them in the winter. Love them.

championquartz · 07/09/2019 09:09

I also think ankle boots are beginning to look a bit datedSad. At least with skirts and dresses. Knee high boots are definitely on the way back.

I can’t help you with links, sorry. I’m resisting knee highs for as long as I can. I really don’t like them on me. Yet. My fashion eye will adjust in time I’m sure.

Sexnotgender · 07/09/2019 09:10

Depends, as long as it’s not those dreadful ones made of weird neoprene looking fabric.

sheshootssheimplores · 07/09/2019 09:13

I think it’s how you wear them to be honest.

I’m not a fan of a chubby calf being squashed by a too tight stiletto knee high boot and an over the knee skirt. I see that on the school run in the winter and it does look dated.

I have a pair that I like to wear with a long skirt, so you can only see a portion of the length. To me that’s quite a classic look.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 07/09/2019 09:15

Knee high are the fashionable ones to have this year.

sheshootssheimplores · 07/09/2019 09:16

This kind of thing

They were a trend last autumn OP so I don’t think they’d look dated. I haven’t worn mine in an age but I do like the lock of them under skinny jeans

Blankspace4 · 07/09/2019 09:20

Have you tried the ankle boots with high denier black tights (rather than opaque?). I also think ankle books book better with a “flowy” skirt rather than a tighter fitting one. Your body shape sounds absolutely fine and I’m sure you can pull anything off!

mummmy2017 · 07/09/2019 09:22

Knee boots are now a classic.
You can wear them and be fashionable because your looking smart.

Bryzeebubs78 · 07/09/2019 13:38

At the end of the day. Fashion is what makes you. Every week something new comes in place of something from last week. If you think your ankle boots look cute with a dress then to hell what others think. Our taste in fashion changes day by day. You wear what you want girl. I know myself what looks good and what doesn't regardless of what's in fashion this week. I shop online using everything 5pound. Great selection of clothes and shoes etc. And at that price who cares if you get 1 month or 1 year from the item. Worth a look

Knee high boots are in fashion this year. Lots coming into stores if you look around to get an idea what’s fashionable - slouchy knee high and lots of patterned ones.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 07/09/2019 18:09

I bloody hope not as I love knee highs and have a few pairs.

Then again I'm not really a follower of fashion and just as well

plunkplunkfizz · 07/09/2019 18:16

They are massively back in, especially with minis.

I work in footwear retail and we’re not loving it. People tend to buy their boots and that’s them, one pair. Shoe trends tend to result in multiple purchases for various reasons.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 07/09/2019 18:23

Yep, Harpers Bazaar says they are back in fashion this Autumn - which is good enough for me!

Agree, I think they look good on those of us who are somewhat shorter than average with a just below the knee skirt. Ankle boots only work with short skirts when you have little legs, and that look isn't appropriate for work for me.

MapMyMum · 07/09/2019 18:30

I agree with bryzeebub78. If you look good in them then go for it. No point wearing something in fashion and not feeling your best. Rock the boots!!

BubblesBuddy · 07/09/2019 18:46

Arket have some great ones. Definitely fashionable!

Flower30 · 07/09/2019 20:40

I’m pleased to hear that they are back in fashion as I have a couple of barely worn pairs, one Fairfax and Favor and one Timberland. The Timberland ones are really comfy and very similar to this, although I think the heel is slightly higher in mine. Comfy enough to actually walk in despite having a good heel height, which I have struggled to find in other brands.

thenightsky · 07/09/2019 21:23

I hope so. I have two pairs I've hardly worn.

CandleWithHair · 07/09/2019 21:55

I mean, I’m not Harper’s Bazaar but I’d say a pair of good quality leather knee highs are a style classic, therefore timeless.
I just bought a lovely new block heeled pair in dark tan from Roberto Vianni and intend to wear them to death this autumn!

Verily1 · 07/09/2019 22:01

They went out of fashion?!?!

BirthdayDreamer · 07/09/2019 22:49

Knee highs are never completely out of fashion, they are iconic and have stood the test of time, however, they have years when they are more fashionable than others. Along with their pals black choker necklaces, leather bikers jackets and leopard fur coats.

They were last properly fashionable around the 1998-2005 mark, so possibly due a mass revival, possibly it's a bit too soon yet. Maybe a few more years to go.

The look was updated around 3 years ago with the over the knee boots. I'd say over the knee boots are less fashionable than knee highs as there's nothing less fashionable than a few years ago's stuff Smile Knee highs are practically vintage compared to over the knee boots.

CountFosco · 08/09/2019 08:44

These are gorgeous and a bit shorter than average so should be fine on you OP. I think they'll be back with a vengence this year, they look fab with a midi skirt or cullottes.
