Yikes, have to buy trainers. I hate trainers. Which are the least hideous please?

The other night I got stuck trying to get out of dd's bed. I was feebling flailing like a geriatric upturned beetle. I suddenly had a vision of myself at 70, tottering along in a walking frame, which scared me so much I was driven me to join a gym (that and the flab). I do not own a pair of trainers. I hate trainers. They are so big and white. I feel a complete self-conscious fake in them too. I don't want to pay Louboutin prices for shoes so can anyone recommend a brand/style that aren't like breezeblocks for the feet? Please?

if you are only doing low impact stuff eg bike, cross trainer, stepper, then don't bother with expensive ones

zippitippitoes · 09/08/2007 16:50

I just have cheap white ones I think they are the ones with a tick but I'm not sure..they seem fine to me..I go to the gym three times and walk 6 miles on the street every day and haven't got injured yet..and they were about 20.00 from jjb sale

thomcat · 09/08/2007 16:51

How are you ALL going to the gym? Are you all lying about the gym or about being mums, which is it?

CountessDracula · 09/08/2007 16:53

I go at lunchtime 4 days a week
for an hour
Bog all else to do here at lunchtimes!
Plus is sociable, everyone from work goes and we all hang out and chat and box etc

zippitippitoes · 09/08/2007 16:54

I have grown out of this children business haven't I

CountessDracula · 09/08/2007 16:54

(this is a relatively new development I have to say, my last gym I hardly ever went to but I like this one)

CountessDracula · 09/08/2007 16:56

zippitippitoes · 09/08/2007 16:56

CountessDracula · 09/08/2007 16:58

I have lost quite a bit (before gym attendance)
still a stone to go though and I was a bit stuck. this has kick started it a gain. Plus i NEED to sort our my midriff and flabby csection tum. And I will get bingo wings soon if I don't do something (as my dogwalker kindly told me, he said the other week "well cd you are looking well, you know though as you're over 40 now you have to do some weights or you;ll start to get bingo wings and go all saggy"
(this from a 73 yo man with a pot belly I ask you!)

CountessDracula · 09/08/2007 16:58

well I usually go for 3 hours then climb a mountain on one leg, hopping all the way

CountessDracula · 09/08/2007 17:00

zippitippitoes · 09/08/2007 17:01

but I don't have bingo wings..my arms are my best bit

CountessDracula · 09/08/2007 17:03

no nor me.... yet!

tc here you are

CountessDracula · 09/08/2007 17:13

oi oi thomcat!!!

aloha · 09/08/2007 18:52

Ha! Very funny. Seriously, the treadmill makes me sick and come out in hives. Horrible.
Thomcat, you aren't supposed to go to the gym because you are having a baybee so you can't and shouldn't. Eat more baguettes!
Ack, I'll probably give up in a week. Who knows.
But at least I'll have cool trainers. I do have some sense of priorities you know.

Went for my gym induction this morning, and the nice chap showing me the machine complimented me on my new trainers

Oh brilliant. How did it go otherwise?

aloha · 12/08/2007 19:10

I was SHATTERED! And really hungry! Are you supposed to want a big cake and a nap afterwards? Guess what, I also went this morning, but didn't go on the weird stairmaster/treadmill/bike hybrid. Felt less completely exhausted.
I do need to be stronger and fitter, otherwise I'll be in a zimmer frame by 60.
