Ellies dress does look a bit Victorian.
I collect antique Victorian photos & have some wedding dress photos.
In late Victorian times dresses were white, had to be high necked & cover the ankles.
But because women had to be so covered up they found other ways to make themselves attractive.
Their dresses had more structure than Ellie's dress for eg in the 1880s there'd be a bustle at the back & a corset underneath giving an exaggerated figure.
Victorian dresses had lots of frills & lace to make up for being very covered up whereas except for the beads Ellie's dress looked very plain.

Also her 'look' of tan, bleached hair & lip filler does not match the look of the dress.
For that sort of dress I think she'd need to look paler & more natural with loose curly hair maybe.

I did a double take with Fergie as I thought she had inadvertently revealed a horrendous thigh tattoo!

I don’t know who this lady is but her dress screams C&A 1979.

How on earth did she get to marry at York Minster?

Soola · 31/08/2019 20:26

Love Sienna’s dress but the whole ensemble would have benefitted if she’d worn her hair up.

She managed to marry an aristocrat - but I think she might have once had Prince Harry in her sights.

They really are not aristocrats-it was a political peerage. They are the local estate agents/auctioneers.

God this thread is horrible. Can no-one ever say anything pleasant about anyone on here?

XXcstatic · 31/08/2019 20:28

I have a soft spot for the bonkerness of Fergie, but she's another one who needs to lay off the fillers & Botox. She's got that witchy look from some of the muscles of facial expression being paralysed, so part of her face looks like it's straining against the other half.

eeksville · 31/08/2019 20:28

I preferred Siennas dress without the body jewellery

TiredOldTable · 31/08/2019 20:29

the requirements to get married at the Minster

The Registrar will only issue a Special Licence if the couple has what is referred to in law as a “present and demonstrable connection” with the cathedral in question – in practical terms, this normally means that, in addition to any other connection a couple may have with York Minster, past or present, they are attending services at the cathedral on a regular basis for at least six months before their wedding. What the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Registrar will be looking for is convincing evidence that the couple has a genuine and substantial, personal and on-going, connection with the cathedral in question, which is so strong that it therefore makes this cathedral the most obvious church in which their marriage service should be held. Our hope and expectation is that couples will continue to worship regularly in the Minster after their wedding for as long as they live in the area.

QuantamBaby · 31/08/2019 20:30

I think she looks beautiful - love the beading and the beautiful neck line.

I also think the York princesses looked lovely - Beatrice's shoes are fab!

PapaShango · 31/08/2019 20:30

She looks beautiful but I don’t like the dress. It looks too big for it and covers her up too much.

Katie Perry looks about 50 years old, frumpy and about 3 sizes bigger than she actually is. She has no shape to her in that outfit!

The only person I thought looked nice from he wedding pics was Sienna Miller

escapade1234 · 31/08/2019 20:31

I think she knows it’s frumpy. It’s a fashion thing at the moment, to look very buttoned-up and prim, to subvert the typical pretty wedding dress, to look edgy by going against what’s expected, even at your own expense. There’s no way she’s been dreaming of that dress since she was a little girl.

She’s also trying to show how she fits into this world of prim, upper class dressing, which is not her natural habitat.

Mostly, it’s a fashion thing.

Seen a different picture where it looks like it fits far better. Nice material - highneck line is quite fashionable now (unfortunately).

eeksville · 31/08/2019 20:32

I loved Beatrice's look, the headband, shoes & dress.

Are we to assume a fair bit of cash has been chucked at the Church of England to allow them to get married there?

baldyfromstressy · 31/08/2019 20:34

It's very er, puritanical.

I agree.

Youngandfree · 31/08/2019 20:34

I like it, my dress had long sleeves too so I’m biased a bit over that! 🤣

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 31/08/2019 20:35

There were one or two details about the dress I didn't go for but I love the fact that she went for sleeves and a high neckline. It would be nice to see a return to elegant gowns that didn't have the bride's boobs spilling over the top, so if this is the way celeb brides are going, amen to that.

Rachelover40 · 31/08/2019 20:37

She does look lovely, so elegant. The dress might have been a bit hot though.

purplepoop · 31/08/2019 20:37

Its horrible.
