Not a fan of the dress but she looked lovely!

Beatrice looked atrocious! And fergie looked like she was going to a funeral!

Katy Perry is totally preggars!

Side note: I'm from York and am irrationally annoyed at all the papers referring to the "cathedral" (technically it is) but it is York Minster and it's an important historical name!

Agree that Jimmy Carr's wife was dressed awfully dowdy!

MiniMum97 · 31/08/2019 23:44

Horrible. It looks too big for her.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 31/08/2019 23:47

I think she looks really pretty, but she must have been so hot in that. Not keen on the collar though.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 01/09/2019 00:00

It was cold today in York and the minster is proper FREEZING!!!! Don’t worry the dress will have been perfect.

I like it but agree it looks too big, the sleeves should have been 3/4 length and she needed a low bun in her hair. She has a beautiful face ! Congratulations to them !

Appletina · 01/09/2019 00:09

@TiredOldTable The groom’s grandfather is some big cheese in York.

PickAChew · 01/09/2019 00:19

It was chilly up north, today.

And not everything has to be Completely body hugging. I think she was trying to avoid that.

Blamangeme · 01/09/2019 00:21

I didn't like the dress too old fashioned althou liked the pearl beading. She still looked lovely but she'd look great in a big paper bag tbh. Grin

blueshoes · 01/09/2019 00:51

I thought the dress was stunning on her. She looked other worldly, like she was from another era. Loved the effect with her matching retro bridesmaids.

EnidButton · 01/09/2019 01:27

I'm not keen on it.

More interested in where they were married. Love York Minster! Why there though? It's not near where she's from or lives.

Ah! I should rtft before commenting.

EnidButton · 01/09/2019 01:31

And the reception was at Castle Howard! Envy

notso · 01/09/2019 01:31

How on earth did she get to marry at York Minster?
A family member married there last year. They aren't religious in the slightest, they just gushed a bit about loving the Minster and went to some classes. Prior to then my relation had only previously visited on a school trip.

Knitclubchatter · 01/09/2019 01:37

Puritanical is the perfect descriptor.
Too loose (bottom of the sleeves) and too tight (upper bust stretched out fabric) both at the same time.
Not what I hope future bridal attire to look like.

EnidButton · 01/09/2019 01:39

Yes anyone can get married there, there's just a huge waiting list that presumably you get to skip if you're someone titled or famous. or incredibly loaded We looked into it but it was years before there was a slot and very expensive.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/09/2019 07:08

I really liked it; looks both traditional and fashion forward ( in a retro way). Much better than a strapless meringue monstrosity.
I think for the money, it should have fitted better, but I liked the idea of it.

Hated the bridesmaids dresses. I think matchy matchy is ok if they’re children, but adult bridesmaids should have a theme / colour and a style which suits them.

Dowser · 01/09/2019 07:10

I got Married in 1975 and that dress is not a million miles from the one I wore
In fact I liked mine better as it had a v neckline .
Nice for the time but I wore nothing like it for my third wedding 4 years ago

Dowser · 01/09/2019 07:11

We are in york every weekend except this one as we were in Dorset
Gutted to have missed a nosey Parker moment

AnneKipanki · 01/09/2019 07:17

70s style.
As long as she was / is happy with it that is all that matters.

WhipMaWhopMa · 01/09/2019 07:32

Absolutely not true!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 01/09/2019 07:35

I keep looking at it and I'm liking it more and more. It sounds like it was perfect for the weather conditions. I do wonder though what she would have done if it had been really hot. Could the sleeves have been removed?

Not so sure about the bridesmaids' dresses but maybe they are a lot nicer in the flesh.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 01/09/2019 07:59

I don't like it, it swamps her and looks old fashioned rather than vintage inspired. Maybe if the fabric was lighter the style could have worked but it looks far to chaste as it is.

angstridden2 · 01/09/2019 08:30

Slightly off the point but why was Sarah Ferguson there? I probably wouldn’t invite my friends’ mums to my wedding...she seems to be surgically attached to her daughters.

hazandduck · 01/09/2019 08:58

I love this dress. It just doesn’t seem right for a summer wedding, though, even if on the day it was a bit breezy as pp have said.

I really think the work Ellie has had has changed her face so much, it’s a real shame. In some pics I think she looks like Caitlyn Jenner 😬

AbandonHopeDarr3n · 01/09/2019 08:59

Who ever said about three quarter length sleeves; yes, I think you're right. I think that would have looked a lot better on her.

I love non body hugging wedding dresses. Meghan Markle's was gorgeous. But I'm not keen on this one... I don't think it suits her very well. Definitely not a stinker though and I honestly think nothing could make a beautiful woman look ugly on her wedding day.
