Have I lost the plot completely with this dress as a wedding guest?

Is there any way that this dress could be styled to make it suitable to wear to wedding? I'd size down for a start. I saw Trinny wearing it on her facebook page here and thought the colour was gorgeous.
Am I mad or could it possibly work?

I think it looks appalling on the model. She looks like a 6 year old dressed in her mother's dress (or duvet cover).

QuaterMiss · 22/08/2019 22:27

There’s a nice plain navy blue shirt dress for the same price ... You could accessorise the hell out of that. Hat, scarf, necklace, bracelets, belt, old school court shoes. Add an inoffensive jacket.😂

SockMachine · 22/08/2019 22:37

A bit of a gust and you’d take off.

And it isn’t cornflower blue, it’s polyester nurses uniform blue.

MiniMum97 · 22/08/2019 22:47

She's definitely had that adjusted. The sleeves have been reduced in size (thank his cause they are hideous) and she's removed the weird collar. Massive improvement!

Lucked · 22/08/2019 22:54

I think Trinny has been able to buy the smallest size because she has no bust, it is very tight on her and almost looks too small. I think if she had had to accommodate any boobs with a larger size the sleeves and the fit across the shoulders would look more like the model. If you have boobs you will need alterations to achieve this.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 22/08/2019 23:07

I'll be honest with you OP. It's a little bit 'Grayson Perry'!

areukiddingme · 22/08/2019 23:16

Lol

Soontobe60 · 22/08/2019 23:21

Just awful!

I don't often swear on the world wide web, but it is fucking hideous

PutsFootInIt · 22/08/2019 23:26

I love it! This is the kind of thing I would wear and everyone would comment on how much they like it. And you would get a lot of wear out of it afterwards as it can be worn casually as well.

Also no risk of someone wearing the same dress Wink

Krisskrosskiss · 22/08/2019 23:30

I absolutely love it! But I think it depends on the type of wedding. If it's a really traditional church wedding with a really formal dinner after then maybe not... quirky trendy wedding or registry office or outdoors wedding.. probably fine.

Greensleeves · 22/08/2019 23:37

It's fuuuuuuuuuugly

MoltonSilver · 22/08/2019 23:57

No middle ground then!

Even if I end up liking in on, I'm not sure I want to wear something that brings out such strong reactions. I had an idea in my head of how it could look but I'm rethinking that now.

Is this any better or just as bad? I'm not in the UK. We don't have the whole no black to a wedding thing that I keep seeing on here.

I saw this dress in Zara today - it's massive 😂

CountFosco · 23/08/2019 05:37

I think the black dress is lovely but I liked the blue dress as well (and I'm not convinced Trinny has had it altered, she just is wearing a size that is more fitted over the shoulders and has the top button done up), but I think the black dress is a more conservative shape. We need to see you in them though OP, the very thin Zara models don't really help.

WereYouHareWhenIWasFox · 23/08/2019 05:57

I think it is too tight across the bust on Trinny, so either she has sized down (several sizes- unlikely) or had it altered. I don’t think it looks good either way.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 23/08/2019 06:18

I love it! I don't think it'll look as full-on in real life as it does on the zara site, either. Just make sure you wear it with heels as you'll need height to carry off the volume. Dress it up with some big colourful earrings and it'll be fine.

Aposterhasnoname · 23/08/2019 06:48

Well I’m no style queen but I reckon if you alter the sleeves, take in the bodice, alter the neckline, take the skirt in, shorten it and maybe dye it a different colour it’d be nice.

Or buy something else, that works too.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 23/08/2019 06:59

I like it, it covers a multitude and could look good if you get a smaller size so it fits properly. Could you belt it in at the waist?
I don’t think it’s too casual as long as you wear some smart shoes, ie not trainers or flip flops.

Tardigrade001 · 23/08/2019 07:04

Yes if you can pull it off. It's a fun, statement dress. It looks a bit meh on Trinny, she's basically ruined it and made it ordinary and boring.

The black one is nice, more traditionally acceptable and you can wear it to everything. A more practical choice.

PutsFootInIt · 23/08/2019 07:21

I think the black one is gorgeous. Much more sophisticated. I think I prefer it. If it was acceptable to wear black here I'd get it for an upcoming wedding!

SockMachine · 23/08/2019 07:45

A big frilly tent.

NiteFlights · 23/08/2019 07:50

I see where you are coming from but unless you’re very tall and that shade of blue is the colour that makes you look fabulous above all others, I’d tread carefully.

QuaterMiss is spot on - this dress is too cheap for its shape. The fabric is cheaply shiny. So as well as being hard to wear in general you have that to overcome.

However I think a tall, stylish, very fashion-forward/experimental person could pull it off!
