Please find me a job interview outfit!

I have an interview for my dream job next week. My CV makes me sound amazing and I’m desperate not to be a huge let down in person!

I’m 48, and a size 14. I hate my arms, tummy and thighs. I have red hair. I normally wear black. Black would be fine at this interview as it’s a creative role.

I need to look a bit edgy and cool. Like a cape blazer? Are those still a thing?

I need serious inspiration please. Budget about £100 but might invest more.

Thanks!

Can you wear black jeans to a job interview? If they’re really new and still very black?

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 21/08/2019 10:38

I should wear a dress, probably. Ugh. WHY didn’t I stick to my diet?!

I'd go for a dress, green or another colour that compliments your hair colour. How tall are you?

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 21/08/2019 10:53

Thanks! I’m 5’ 6.5”. I’m just out of shape really, and my waist has disappeared completely.

I have a new dress but is only from George at Asda. I’ll try to find a link. I haven’t worked in a big office for years (freelance, from home) so I feel completely out of touch with what women wear.

I don't know how to do proper links sorry-
I am your size/ height etc- I wore these shoes, black blazer with ruched sleeves, 7/8th skinny black trousers and silk t shirt recently to an interview , felt good and got the job!

love the dress by the way !

NoBaggyPants · 21/08/2019 11:03

That dress is lovely! Dress it with smart leather shoes and bag and you'll look great.

If you're feeling out of sorts would it be worth getting your hair done? I find it gives me that lift from feeling dowdy and just looking that bit more done, polished.

NoBaggyPants · 21/08/2019 11:05

Happy Jack's outfit sounds lovely too. Trousers like these from Gap:

Ok I just tried the George dress on — no. I’ve tried everything on and I think I’m going to have to buy new things.

@happyjack12 — congratulations!!

I love the sound of a blazer with ruched sleeves! Please can you share a link? And could I wear v black skinny jeans with that, do you think?

@NoBaggyPants — haircut is a great idea. Thanks! A trim will sort me out.

I’m in Asos. I really like this black wrap dress: www.asos.com/new-look/new-look-long-sleeve-wrap-midi-dress-in-black/prd/13422225?clr=black&colourWayId=16541363&SearchQuery=&cid=2623

What do you think? With nice ankle boots?

I love this dramatic wrap dress too, but the puff sleeves are frightening me:

oh i like that dress

I'd dare very black, new skinnies too- just make sure rest of outfit is clean, ironed, smart etc

Blazer was H&m last year, but I think I've seen them in Marks' and Outfit too, maybe debenhams too?

happyjack12 · 21/08/2019 11:39

like the patterned dress too, think I am a bit more boring dressing than you-I'd wear that for an evening out :)

Mountian · 21/08/2019 12:13

Black ribbed midi skirt £13 and dark patterned 3/4 sleeve top £8 both Primark. Any good OP?

They look well put together and fairly smart.

Please find me a job interview outfit!
HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 21/08/2019 12:27

Ooh I like those primary finds. Especially the skirt.

What I’d love to wear but can’t find is a black and white blouse with vertical stripes. Anyone seen any?

OP posts:
Mountian · 21/08/2019 12:36

You're welcome. Smile

You can't really tell from the photo, but the top is a tan and black geometric print.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/08/2019 12:44

Not jeans. I like the black wrap dress.

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 21/08/2019 13:39

I’ve ordered the black wrap dress. :) I’ll go up the shops and try some trousers on at the weekend. I always assume all trousers will look awful on me but that’s not necessarily true!

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 22/08/2019 12:18

UPDATE

The black wrap dress arrived. HINEST OPINIONS PLEASE. My main concern is that it does some cleavage - that can’t be great at job interviews? Maybe I can pin it.

If you like it, could you suggest footwear? The length is that Amish/handmaiden midi length, so can I use boots to funk it up a bit? I need to look fresh and modern.

Thank you!

I mean HONEST OPINIONS, obviously 😂

Please could you have a look at the photos above when you get a minute? I’m out of touch so I’d love your thoughts. Thank you!

Hi. It needs a cami underneath, I think. You'd probably be too nervous with a pin, in case it pinged open! Definitely too booby as it stands.

And heeled boots would definitely help it length-wise. Have you got some you could show us? Big-holed fishnets would funk it up too!
