There’s a thread at the moment about your favourite recent purchase. Thought it might be interesting, and possibly a bit cathartic to have a ‘worst purchase’ thread to go alongside it!

In the past six months i havent bought much, so the crappy, £65 in the sale skirt from whistles that hangs like a duster and cant-even-compete-with- primark kinda stings.

Yours?

A charity shop top- it looked like a dead certain for me, but feels all wrong to wear. Shame. Not quite the same level of financial waste though!! Sorry!

Lumene · 17/08/2019 21:10

Bravissimo maxi dress with weird sleeves and not quite the right colour. Cost £70 but whenever I wear it I feel large and flappy and desperately want to put a jacket or cardigan over it. Great fit but just somehow wrong.

Hangs next to the amazing organic cotton maxi dress I bought from Lidl for less than a tenner and am currently wearing to death.

The Japanfusion range from beauty pie. I love all the other stuff I have that I’ve bought from them but that range gave me massive cystic spots!

Musicforsnorks · 17/08/2019 21:15

Haha, yes i have a few cheaply purchased favourites, but few and far between though. A dress from primark this summer got me more compliments than anything i have worn in years. One in a million though.

Bought some fabulous summer dungarees from eBay..... on arrival they look like excess umpa lumpa uniform which will ever ever iron out anyway.........

Gingernaut · 17/08/2019 21:18

A summery top from George.

Pretty 50s style pattern, with beaches, white buildings and sand, pretty tunic style, but poorly designed.

Every time I raised my arms, the whole tunic would rise and expose my midriff.

takingtheplungeagain · 17/08/2019 21:18

*never ever 🙊

Silk dress from damsel in a dress via tkmaxx sale
Too small and just doesn’t suit me - realised last night when I found the receipt it was too late to return by 1 day grrrrrrrrrrrr

Musicforsnorks · 17/08/2019 21:50

Ah, and M&S, those long sleeved tees called ‘the straight’.
I was buying them as sleep/lounge tees for a while, and all of a sudden the fabric is thinner and they lose shape after one wash.

Fuckers.

Its like watching a company shaft itself for the sake of quick profit in real-time.

A blue silk dress from a charity shop, it looks terrible on, not my style at all. I bought it because it was cheap and LK Bennett. When will learn?

AlexaAmbidextra · 17/08/2019 22:05

A Hillary’s blind when I could have got the same from Blinds2Go for a quarter of the price. What a dope.

Isle of paradise tanning drops...

Somehow seems to leave me not tanned but with brown streaks.

Can't control amount of drops and pipette doesn't work.

Complete waste of money

dollybooo · 17/08/2019 22:20

@pinkcardi have you tried mixing the drops with moisturiser & then applying it?

browzingss · 17/08/2019 22:28

Bought some makeup from Fenty (Rihanna’s well reviewed line). I hate everything and never reach for the pricy items I bought! As it’s makeup, it’s not like I can return anything due to hygiene reasons so I have had to write the cost offSad

RumbleDoll · 17/08/2019 22:34

Magnetic eyelashes, total waste of money.
Looked so easy too.
Having extensions next week.
(hopefully a good purchase )

Daffodil2018 · 17/08/2019 22:34

Whistles jeans in a size 10, bought immediately after giving birth when I thought I'd be back down to a 10 again within a few weeks hollow laugh

pinkcardi · 17/08/2019 22:38

@dollybooo yes, mixed up as per instructions.

No result at all on my face

My arms smelt of fake tan and had brown streaks, but the rest was pale. Thankfully streaks came off with a gentle scrub.

I'll admit it could be user error, and going to try again as I have a whole bottle of the stuff

EskiVodkaCranberry · 17/08/2019 22:42

I'm recovering from the trauma of a trip to the hairdressers if a haircut and highlights counts as a purchase?
4 hours and absolutely nobody noticed, I obviously told my hairdresser I loved it Blush

Pomgirl · 17/08/2019 22:55

Jane Iredale Glow Time BB Cream.. eh hate it!!!! It’s so thick like paste, very drying and definitely no glow. Complete waste Angry

Miseryisabutterfly · 17/08/2019 23:40

A lovely, flattering black maxi dress from Zara... ripped to shreds on holiday. It’s so poorly made. First a strap snapped in two, then holes appeared throughout the seams. I should add that it wasn’t a sizing issue, the fabric wasn’t under pressure 😬

Glower · 17/08/2019 23:53

I bought a couple of pairs of trousers that turned out not to fit me and needed taking back – I then broke my leg and couldn’t manage to return them! Such a waste!

SuckingDieselFella · 18/08/2019 00:01

Boots no 7 endless length mascara. Very thin and dried out in 3 days.

Glower · 18/08/2019 00:06

misery I have two tops from Zara that are falling apart as well. It’s a shame as the material actually feels really nice and they’re classic basics that I could’ve worn for years, but the stitching has unravelled and the sleeve has actually come away from the body on one of them. I took a blouse back this year when the hem had totally undone before I’d even taken the label off. Annoys me that they get away with terrible quality!
