There’s a thread at the moment about your favourite recent purchase. Thought it might be interesting, and possibly a bit cathartic to have a ‘worst purchase’ thread to go alongside it!

In the past six months i havent bought much, so the crappy, £65 in the sale skirt from whistles that hangs like a duster and cant-even-compete-with- primark kinda stings.

Yours?

Interesting how many of these are beauty related rather than fashion/clothes.

I have gone through a few duff mascaras since clinique discontinued my favourite super glossy last year. Finally struck gold with lancome after too many dried up spider leg disasters..

@browzingss say you had an allergic reaction (red inflamed skin) you should be able to return it then. I worked in different well known department stores and they all accepted returns on that basis

PurpleDaisies · 18/08/2019 00:49

That Zara spotty dress. Looked like an oversized nighty on me.

Ginmel · 18/08/2019 00:58

Some eyeshadow that didn't look glittery on the John Lewis website. Unfortunately in reality it is. I can still use it but its not what I wanted

timshelthechoice · 18/08/2019 01:08

Lidl perfume. Smells rank.

Tryingtogetitright · 18/08/2019 06:40

Clarks Hamble Oak brogues in pewter. I love them on other people but they just don't suit me. I've tried them on so many times but only left the house in them once. Any hints and tips for making them work gratefully received! I've don't have a defined ankle which I think is the problem.

A floaty, supposedly very flattering black maxi dress from Amazon. I had visions of casually wafting around in it all summer. In reality I looked like I was wearing a yurt Hmm

Thedevilofsmallthings · 18/08/2019 07:48

Solait tanning drops: gave my face no colour whatsoever but my hands looked like I had a 40 a day habit.

nitgel · 18/08/2019 07:50

A joules sunhat as ain't sunny !

Rarfy · 18/08/2019 07:53

Not for me but bought 7 month old dd a gorgeous pastel yellow denim pinafore from Next and stripey top to go underneath.

Dress is completely impractical for a baby. Rides up a over her bum then just stays there due to the style and material.

Fortunately Next have been very understanding and accepted a return so nothing lost.

Completely put me off dresses for DD though.

Estee Lauder double wear foundation - bought it on a whim, have been regretting it ever since. The Primark copy suits my skin far better!

Juupiter · 18/08/2019 08:02

Any item of clothing from
bravissimo/pepperberry/whatever it’s called now. I am their target customer. I have big boobs that are a size or two bigger than the rest of my body. Yet without fail anything I’ve ever bought from there looks wrong. I try things on in the shop and try to convince myself that it works only to find that it really doesn’t. Thankfully I’ve only ever bought about 4 things but they are expensive for what they are.

Ginmel · 18/08/2019 08:16

Thats a shame @juupiter I love their stuff

Catmar · 18/08/2019 09:11

Got all excited when I found an all saints dress for £5 from a charity shop. I look ridiculous in it Grin

Musicforsnorks · 18/08/2019 13:34

I tried that joules sun hat if i remember the same one referring to. It was a really odd design.

I want one of those waxed cotton rain hays from the carrier company!

Loads of crap from eBay. Things that had holes in despite being described as 'great condition' but only a fiver so not worth the hassle of returning. I will never learn.

StCharlotte · 18/08/2019 13:49

Pretty much every mascara I've tried since Max Factor discontinued their E-X-T-E-N-D (or was it S-T-R-E-T-C-H?) Mascara Sad

grownup2 · 18/08/2019 16:36

Kit & Kaboodal linen - anything except their limited premium range is pretty transparent, the dye looks cheap to start with and then fades after a wash or two, and the seam allowances are non-existent so the seams on the flimsy fabric split. Shame, I want to love their cocoon dresses but I demand better quality when I'm paying £30+++

EnidButton · 18/08/2019 16:56

L'Oréal Paradise mascara. Very well liked on here so gave it a try. It goes from being either too clumpy and giving spider leg lashes or too subtle and nonexistent. Shame as I had high hopes for it. The brush is good.

Went back to my usual Diorshow but would like a cheaper one that performs as well

EnidButton · 18/08/2019 17:05

Oh and Charlotte Tilbury Magic powder. It stinks and cakes no matter how little I apply. The packaging is nice but otherwise a total waste of money.

S0CKS · 18/08/2019 17:14

@JaceLancs
When i worked for Tk Maxx i would over look a day or two... Try and return it.

timshelthechoice · 18/08/2019 17:16

Tubular mascara. The white stuff went all claggy right away. I threw it out.

Musicforsnorks · 18/08/2019 17:23

A john lewis seamless bra, created bulging flesh bags under my armpits.
