Hi :)

It is my birthday weekend this weekend , me and my Husband are off out to Stratford upon Avon for a meal at Bella Italia, and then off for some cocktails .

Is this dress too much ? ( pic included ) I am in love with it, just not sure if it is too much for just a meal and cocktails?

All opinions welcome... (p.s, dress already purchased, but backup outfit not planned yet )

Do not wear trainers, as previous posts have suggested, with that dress

lisbonholiday · 15/08/2019 22:10

The people suggesting a denim jacket and converse with this dress... Are you ok?

OP, either go to Bella Italia in jeans and naice top, or go somewhere nice and wear the dress.

If you can afford to buy the dress you can afford to upgrade the restaurant

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 15/08/2019 22:11

It is absolutely nothing like Nando's

No, Nando's is nice!

AudacityOfHope · 15/08/2019 22:11

How is it snobby to point out that a cocktail dress and a family-focused Italian restaurant don't quite match?! Confused

The OP asked if it was a suitable outfit for what she has planned; people have answered and I didn't see rudeness in the responses.

EatenByDinosaurs · 15/08/2019 23:07

I love the look of a denim jacket and cocktail dress, personally I'd go for pumps or flat sandals as I don't wear trainers or converse, but it is a very current look Smile

Love the dress! Where are you doing cocktails? I recommend the RSC rooftop bar - it has lovely views and I've sometimes gone there a bit dressed up and felt fine. Avoid 7-7.30 and interval times, though, as it can get busy!

TruckstopTrudy · 16/08/2019 01:02

Love the dress it’s your birthday go for it

Talking of overdressing, I wore a silk emerald green 50s style dress to ikea and had meatballs because I was on the way to a works awards do that didn’t involve a meal and it was the only thing (except a McDonalds) available near the hotel!

chasingseagulls · 16/08/2019 07:20

TruckstopTrudy that's a completely different scenario. You weren't in Ikea through choice, it wasn't part of the your main evening and reason for dressing in formal wear.

The OPs whole evening is about her, her special night, and wanting to look nice, in Bella Italia and on for the evening after. Again, why don't people read the OP, she doesn't want to look overdressed, she doesn't want to "rock it" , and why on earth would you go to the lengths of wearing a formal dress then wear trainers and a denim jacket FFS? which would look absolutely shit with a dress of that fabric

Verite1 · 16/08/2019 08:27

I would wear whatever you want. Dress is lovely. I never care if i am the most (or least) dressed up in the room. I wore a silk cocktail dress to the pub the other day as I just bought and loved it! Just have confidence in the fact that you will look lovely.

lisbonholiday · 16/08/2019 08:34

@EatenByDinosaurs

The dresses you have posted are not 'cocktail' dresses. Two are silky satin slip dresses and the other is a cotton wrap mini dress. Very different to the style and cut of OPs dress

BenWillbondsPants · 16/08/2019 08:51

FFS.

Wear the dress OP. Go to Bella Italia. Call your husband what the hell you like and enjoy your night out.

Some posters are really trying to make the OP feel crap about what she says, where they are going to eat blah, blah, blah. It's really dickheaded behaviour. Not cool.

WidowTwonky · 16/08/2019 08:51

It’s comments like bella bloody Italia which are rude

Go for it OP and have a lovely evening

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/08/2019 09:02

I'm very well, thanks, Lisbon.

TruckstopTrudy · 16/08/2019 11:36

@chasingseagulls totally agree but my point is anyone can wear anything anywhere who cares!

professionalnomad · 16/08/2019 12:32

Wear it - it's a beautiful dress. Who cares where you are going. If you feel good in it then wear it. You don't dress for others - you dress for yourself!

flumpybear · 16/08/2019 12:39

Gorgeous dress, ditch Bella Italia and go somewhere a bit more fitting to the dress and a birthday celebration ... enjoy ❣️🍾🎉🎂

Ellapaella · 16/08/2019 13:49

It's a lovely dress and I say you should wear it OP. Doesn't matter if the restaurant is casual dress, you are going out afterwards for cocktails and it's a perfect dress for cocktail bars. It's about getting dressed up and making an effort for each other anyway, who cares what anyone else thinks. Have a great night.

drumandthebass · 16/08/2019 17:50

Trainers and a denim jacket wouldn't work with that particular dress at all.

Wear the dress on another occasion OP
