The *other* Zara dress... caught by the hype

Thinkle · 05/08/2019 15:06

Was googling that spotty dress (which weirdly I’ve only spotted in the wild twice) and came across an article for the next big Zara dress... got caught in the hype... it was out of stock...checked again today... and seem to have ordered the last one in stock! Yay me!!
Maybe.
Now what the eff to I wear it with? Help me style it please!

You sound super organised happy! I love midi dresses and skirts in summer, but they just don’t work on me once the tights go on. They need the ankle gap!

I got this lovely one from Topshop (it looks like it’s sold out now but maybe still in stores). I had it shortened slightly, and it is FAB.

I'm 5ft2" and have the white spotty dress in an XS but have just bought the blue one in M. The S was just a bit too tight across the shoulders and back.

I love OP's white poplin one, but I fear the fabric and cut would just swamp me, the dotty and newer blue dresses are maxi length on me, but the fabric is soft and flowy. But I might have to check out that white one to be sure Grin

Deathraystare · 08/08/2019 07:13

Zara’s got a winner there, they need to keep making it in different fabrics.

Not when they seem mega obsessed with Viscose like everyone else.

happytobemrsg · 08/08/2019 09:29

It looks better with an ankle gap that’s for sure @Judystilldreamsofhorses but not enough to put me off wearing them 😂 in 2 weeks’ time I’ll have 2 DC & the flowy dresses plus a waist belt feels like a complete outfit with minimal effort. That Topshop dress is lovely- how tall are you? I love that flowy dresses are everywhere right now - I don’t think I would have realised how much I loved wearing them otherwise.

Are you keeping the M blue @Cecily75?

I’ve got some lovely long tiered dresses from New Look @Deathraystare which feel lovely on. Not sure what the material is though 🤔

Cecily75 · 08/08/2019 11:35

@happytobemrsg yes, I am keeping the M blue one. I'm loving this phase of midi maxi on me dresses, the comfort and ease.

I tried on an Oliver Bonas dress similar to the spotty Zara dress, and even though I like the print, I didn't love it as much as the Zara dresses. That's gone back to the shop.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/08/2019 11:37

I’m 5ft 6, happy, but I prefer a “shorter long dress”, my preference is for just below the knee. The spotty one does feel a bit like I am wafting about in my nightie!

zackly · 08/08/2019 11:38

It looks like a nightie from a Victorian asylum!

I'm clearly not the target market Grin

lisbonholiday · 08/08/2019 11:40

The white spotty dress looks equally as horrible on everyone.

'Flattering' apparently means a huge tent in a cheap fabric. I love oversized styles but that ain't it.

lisbonholiday · 08/08/2019 11:41

The white one is gorgeous if you are a 5"10 scandi street style model.

TSSDNCOP · 08/08/2019 11:41

It’s very nice and it suits everyone, whatever their size, shape or age.

It made me look Amish.

happytobemrsg · 08/08/2019 12:03

I did wonder about that Oliver Bonas dress @Cecily75 but at nearly double the price of the Zara one it was just too expensive for me. The £50 blue Zara price made me think twice!

I’ve never worn long dresses before @Judystilldreamsofhorses so maybe it does look like I’m wearing a nightie 😂 at 36w pregnant it’s a bonus if I manage to get out of my pjs each morning. Maybe that’s why I’m finding it so appealing!!

Amazing how a dress can produce such strong reactions (good & bad!). I personally think it’s about how you style it but if it not your thing then it’s not your thing. I’m certainly not of scandi model proportions but I like it & get compliments 🤷‍♀️

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 08/08/2019 12:58

That dress is really good dyed dark, happytobemrsg, was it easy to dye?

Thinkle · 08/08/2019 19:45

Well the massive white Zara dress arrived...
My 4yo DD said “I love it, you look like a princess” fairly standard response from her though tbh.
My husband choked on his apple juice and then decided that I looked like I should be in a slasher movie... it’s all the white fabric apparently waiting for a massive blood stain. He was impressed with the price though and so overall he approves.
I think I’ll keep it Grin

Personally I don’t like tiered ruffle things (for me) so on that account the dress is a no no, and I’m a little bitter that they haven’t done something similarly simple in a plainer kaftan style, but I agree that it seems so immensely wearable and I hope it brings you much joy Grin

I’m really warming up to tent dresses Grin

happytobemrsg · 08/08/2019 21:52

Well we can’t take your word for it @Thinkle we need a photo!!

Really easy @ChardonnaysPrettySister I just used a Dylon dye which goes in the washing machine.

aliceelizaloves · 09/08/2019 09:19

I love the Zara one. I have spotted it on so many people and it looks great on all of them. I would be so worried about turning up in the same outfit though if I bought it! I love the look of it dyed though, I might do that. I've just bought some leather ankle boots for autumn/winter. Will you guys wear this style dress with boots when it gets colder?

aliceelizaloves · 09/08/2019 09:21

What is the colour dye you used happy? And what size? I'm 5.5 and a size 8/10

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/08/2019 11:07

Is everyone aware that 22 August is “wear the dress day”? There’s an event in London in association with Glamour magazine and raising money for period poverty. For people not in London (me) you can still donate. The details are on the Hot4thespot Instagram account.

Miseryisabutterfly · 09/08/2019 14:35

I ordered the blue one today thanks to your encouragement @happytobemrsg 😂 I wasn’t meant to be spending this month 🙈

Would love to see a picture @Thinkle!

Glower · 09/08/2019 15:24

I think you have to be very ‘fashion’ to pull that off! How are you going to style it OP? I like it actually, apart from the massive puffy sleeves.

happytobemrsg · 09/08/2019 15:59

Absolutely @aliceelizaloves! I just bought a pair of black & a pair of tan Chelsea boots to wear with my long flowy dresses incl the white spot Zara one.

@aliceelizaloves I used the Dylon washing machine dye in grey. I’ve also used the olive green one. I think it only comes in one size dye.

I’m so annoyed @Judystilldreamsofhorses! My c-section is booked for 20th August so I won’t be able to rock the dress 😔

I’m so pleased @Miseryisabutterfly. I’m expecting it to be pretty popular but the more I play around with it on my style app the more versatile it seems. Be sure to post a pic when it arrives!

happytobemrsg · 09/08/2019 16:02

I think I misunderstood your question @aliceelizaloves I bought an XS & I’m a size 10

aliceelizaloves · 09/08/2019 16:04

Thank you! Definitely going to buy it now and dye. Excited about autumn now!

aliceelizaloves · 09/08/2019 16:04

Haha I did think that! I guessed you got Xs

Scarecrow2016 · 18/08/2019 12:53

Not sure what size to buy the asymetric poplin dress. It looks huge. I'm a 10 and normally wear M in Zara. But wondering whether to size down.
