Work shoes

I've been looking for some comfortable black flats for work (for the office). I'm a size 8 with wide feet so find it hard to get shoes that fit on the high street.

I ordered these Skechers shoes (in a size 7) and they fit beautifully. Ordered in a size 7 because all of the reviews said the sizing was wrong! They're so comfortable too!

Ok...they're not going to win any style awards but at my age (late 30s) comfort is starting to become more important!

What are your go to work shoes?

These are my 'serious' work shoes i.e. for interviews/meetings with the big bosses for when I need to be super-smart but may need to walk a reasonable amount. They're really comfy - the first time I wore them I walked home (30 mins) after my meeting and there was no rubbing, no nothing! I have them in black, navy and red. Grin

Hundredmilesanhour - those are nice shoes. Bit more upmarket than my comfy Skechers!

I have about 20 pairs of work shoes (would have been more but have just done a big wardrobe clear out). One of my favourite pairs is this one from Boden (navy leather, loafer style), for comfort my fave is a pair of flats from KG (black with gold trim). But I’m starting to really like chunky/platform brogues so that’ll probably be my next purchase.

HundredMiles I love those and I’ve never heard of that company so thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Tooty Skechers are great and sooooo comfy. Fitflops are very good too, and there’s an excellent sale on now just in case you want to have a look!

Tootytata · 01/08/2019 20:37

Ninkaninus - just had a look! Can't resist the word "sale". Good thing there's nothing I like otherwise I would've spent more money!

I wear patent loafers from M&S, I think they are £29.99 and I usually buy a new pair each year.

I'm not sure what sort of job I'd have to have to think spending £210 on work shoes was worth it.

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 20:56

Yes M&S have had some very nice loafers/brogues the past few seasons.

Tootytata · 01/08/2019 20:58

Hundredmilesanhour - what sort of job do you do?! I'm curious! I picture you in a skyscraper corner office with magnificent views of the river Thames wearing those fabulous shoes!

I picture a lawyer/accountant/architect.

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 21:00

I’d only have to be earning slightly more than I do now to think that’s worth it...but then I do love shoes! Wink

Tootytata · 01/08/2019 21:02

Ninkaninus - nah...I'm an accountant. Sorry to generalise but we're not that stylish! (Hides so I don't get stoned by fellow accountants!)

Love all those especially the high heeled brogues.

Sadly I am size 10 so now of these beautiful shoes fit me.

I either have to have expensive cheaply made shoes from Magnus or Long Tall Sally. Or remortgage to buy a pair of beyond ridiculously expensive shoes from Crispins (if you can find me something chunky and work friendly for less than £100 on there you will be a miracle worker - prices go up to £500+)

evilharpy · 01/08/2019 21:12

I have many many pairs of work shoes, it’s a bit of a problem/addiction. But I love a pair of brogues and wear them with everything. My favourites are these black patent Hobbs ones and these burgundy ones from Russell & Bromley. But I also have navy, pewter, normal unshiny black, tan, and black with a higher block heel. And I wear them all.

My current 'proper smart' favoured shoe brand is Peter Kaiser who do a wide fit but run very wide in their normal fitting. Blissfully comfortable and some of them have a genius elastic detail that holds them firmly on your feet.

small2018 · 01/08/2019 21:19

Mine are LK Bennett Sledge heels

Ha ha not far off actually. I'm not working at the moment but yes, I'm usually found in buildings either at Canary Wharf or in the City (no prizes for guessing that I'm in Financial Services). I used to work in consultancy so could easily be running around all day from one office to another (or even one country to another) for meetings hence the need for comfy shoes that still look nice/smart but are reasonably conservative when meeting uptight clients.

My last job was digital transformation though so I could wear trainers (or some much more "out there" shoes/boots) and I used to very much enjoy having my breakfast in the office overlooking the Thames. Actually, I used to row on the Thames when I was younger so best to sit with my back to the window or no-one will ever get any work out of me as I'll be staring longingly at the river all day.Wink

Ninkaninus · 01/08/2019 21:20

Russell & Bromley shoes are beautiful. I bought a pair (not brogues) a couple of weeks ago and had to return them as I’ve got quite wide feet and they were just way too narrow. I hope that one day I’ll find a pair to fit me but I’ll have to go in store rather than order online...

Anyway I love yours!

Tootytata · 01/08/2019 21:25

Ninkaninus - I have wide feet too. It sucks! Wish I had small dainty feet. Then again, nothing about me is small or dainty so my feet would be out of place then! Wish all of me was small and dainty!

Nikaninus I love brogues so much, I even have brogue style trainers! These are from Karen Millen and I wear them a lot. And a pair of brogue style nude heels from Clarks. God I need help.

Hundredmilesanhour - wow, can't believe what I envisaged was close! Smile sounds like you need comfortable shoes...doing all of that running around!

@Tootytata I started out in accountancy (ironically enough in a lovely building overlooking the Thames...seems to be a theme in my career) so I wont have anything said against accountants and their taste in shoes. Smile

@Ninkaninus I'm glad to have introduced to Miista. Grin I try to support local (East London), up and coming designers as much as I can. Don't even get me started on jewellery. Wink

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/08/2019 21:33

Actually I'm itching for it to be autumn then I can start wearing these boots to work. They are even more amazing in real life and so comfy that it's like wearing slippers.

harpy brogues are delicious. I’ve got three pairs but there’s always room for more! I want a patent pair next!
