We have an unfortunate association with the Southern Cross Flag here too. It was first used in the Eureka Stockade to protest against the conditions gold miners in Victoria were working for in 1854. (Mostly unfair taxes and exorbitant miner’s licenses, etc). *Incidentally, the Stockade was led by Peter Lalor, a deceased ancestor of mine. Thus began the union movement in Australia and the flag stuck for them... HOWEVER, It has in recent years, been appropriated by grubby, racist, nationalistic twits who wish to disregard the fact that Peter Lalor and co were also fighting for the rights of Chinese miners, and they are using the flag to support their own white Australia agenda. If I see anyone with a Southern Cross tattoo, I assume that I won’t dig their politics.

Laska2Meryls · 12/08/2019 11:47

sadly I associate the uk (and especially the english) flag as being one of racism, aggression and oppression ( and since Fuxit even more so) .. and I am about as white English as you can get... ( both families traced back hundreds of years english )..

I should have a sale delivery today ( that skirt, never) .. are we getting new Hush stuff tomorrow? and will I ever stop buying clothes?

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 11:55

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Thats sometimes what i ask myself. I am back at work tomorrow so maybe that will stop me! Actually i placed an order last night. The tuquoise blue leopard twist front dress( for work reall) and the pink chinos ( a wild card) and the lovely pink tee you have!

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 11:57

The union jack as racism, aggression and oppression

Totally.

I’m horrified living in England how many UKIP posters there are - just wasn’t used to seeing that at all. I’m ready to go home, to be honest..

But anyway - in London last week I bought what is probably the ugliest skirt ever from Cos - and for some bizarre reason, I love it. There is nothing about it that should work, but I’m wearing it with a candy pink cropped cardigan and trainers today, and have convinced myself I look fabulous 🤣. On me, it’s just above ankle length, Cos models must be very tall!

@cherries, I like the skirt! It sounds nice what you have on :) Is it metallic?

justilou1 · 12/08/2019 12:42

I think it’s everywhere though, ladies... when I first moved to the Netherlands, I felt that it was some kind of open-minded Nirvana. By the time I left, people were openly saying things like “You’re not as foreign as other foreigners, I guess...” and the 25 year old guy at customs smiled and said something about us all having blue eyes when we handed over our residency Visa cards. Historically, the rise in Nationalism and looking to scapegoat “others” seems to be a typical response to economic depression and overpopulation. All boxes are ticked. Unfortunately this has been “resolved” by massive wars. Not keen on this kind of resolution.

ilovecherries · 12/08/2019 12:48

It’s not truly metallic, never. It’s a cotton poplin with a faint sheen to it, and a texture almost like oil cloth. Sounds revolting!

Didn't realise @justilou1 that this kind of attitude was so widespread. That's even more depressing!
Anyway for those interested brand alley has a sale on boden.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 13:53

I really like the sound of your skirt @cherries!

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 13:56

Just out of curiosity though @ilovecherries I have always wondered what sizing is like and have been often tempted to buy from cos. What size do you go for?

ilovecherries · 12/08/2019 14:26

I’m pretty much a 12 across the board in CoS. Although sizing down might be possible, it actually changes the aesthetic of the garment. I think the difference is that Hush are ‘big made’ whereas Cos are designed for an overscale fit, and if you change sizes they then don’t fit as intended. Not sure if that makes sense!

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 14:33

No, that makes sense. So is that a 40 @cherries in their sizes? I may have a browse although I have spent enough but would really like to try something!!

ilovecherries · 12/08/2019 14:46

38 in EU, or a medium in their generic sizing. Different from Other Stories who call 12 a 40.

Laska2Meryls · 12/08/2019 16:29

well I have just sent back both Paula skirts ( 2 sizes) and the Rocket, the rocket just wasnt me , and I decided that I just didn't love th e Paula skirt enough in the end..

very TemporaryHalo

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 16:34

ha ha ha.....well good for you @Laska2Meryls

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 16:36

I actually had the rocked midi skirt on yesterday with my plimsoles braving the rain! It felt good and I do really like it but the hemline is not for everyone.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 16:37

I like the Paula skirt and have worn it once so far. My brother and mum loved the print. I think the print looks much nicer at a distance with that one.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 16:38

I think you are saving yourself for the new hush stuff tomorrow!!!!
Did you notice they are no longer on PR shots. Strange.

Laska2Meryls · 12/08/2019 16:44

yes it the Paula s nice, and I love my top in the same print , but in the end I thought about the leopard maxi I have only worn about 3 times , and the (4!!) Santanas (which I do wear a lot) and the 3 marinas i have Blush, not to mention all the hush summer maxi dresses I own , (and the fact that I am leaving work, and there fore will be wearing skirts less...)

I have to concentrate on only buying for my actual lifestyle from now on..

I wore the new paradise T yesterday (got compliments) and have worn the Linda shirt also already ..

Laska2Meryls · 12/08/2019 16:44

yup, sure am!! GrinWink

ilovecherries · 12/08/2019 16:50

It was brilliant, I learned so much. Almost too much in fact, I need to find time over the next couple of days to sit with my manual and sort it out in my head. Our journeys home were so hairy on Saturday, then having dd for a couple of extra days after we had to rescue her has distracted me a bit. But very glad I did it.
