It's beautiful - congratulations!

butterwithtoast · 31/07/2019 13:36

Oh wow, that's so beautiful! Is it vintage or new? Congratulations!

ElspethFlashman · 31/07/2019 13:56

That's so stunning. I wanted an Opal engagement ring but pretty much everyone put me off with the "it's a bad luck stone" bollocks.

I wish I'd ignored them all, tbh.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 31/07/2019 15:14

Wow that is beautiful! Congratulations Smile

What sort of wedding band will you wear with it?

LaMarschallin · 31/07/2019 15:23

I knew they weren't as tough as other stones but I wasn't actually sure in which way

It's ravishing and I love opals too. That looks a gorgeous one. Congratulations on the engagement 🍾🥂
Just to add that they can be a bit delicate as I know to my sorrow. I had a beautiful opal ring (no diamonds though 🙁) and it shattered in two when I dropped it onto a tiled surface 😥. Just worth knowing it may a little more TLC than other stones.

Wearenotyourkind · 31/07/2019 15:54

Congratulations! What a beautiful and unique ring. Wishing you all the best.

BenWillbondsPants · 31/07/2019 15:58

Oh that's gorgeous!

UpToonGirl · 31/07/2019 16:52

Wow, it's beautiful. I love the shape.

MadisonAvenue · 31/07/2019 17:02

That really is beautiful - congratulations!

Just another word of warning. I have a beautiful opal necklace but I messed it up when I tried to clean the silver surround with one of those little jewellery cloths which is impregnated with a cleaning fluid and it clouded it.

HeadintheiClouds · 31/07/2019 17:04

That’s really lovely

yikesanddang · 31/07/2019 17:10

It's a really pretty ring but perhaps not ideal as a ring you plan to wear every day. For the reasons you have me tuned you may want to think about wearing it for best once you have your actual wedding ring as it is unlikely to survive unscathed. Would be a shame to ruin it. People on MN seem to dislike diamonds but there is a reason diamonds are used. They are ideal for daily wear. Emeralds and rubies are close in toughness but emeralds and other stones are considered too fragile to risk.

buttertoasty · 31/07/2019 17:38

Beautiful, my mother has an opal engagement ring and it faired very well, she never took it off.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 31/07/2019 17:44

Love it! Do you know where it's from?

JaceLancs · 31/07/2019 17:52

It’s amazing - congratulations
I love opals too

InsertFunnyUsername · 31/07/2019 17:54

Congratulations, it is eye catching and beautiful!

ScarlettDarling · 31/07/2019 17:55

It’s absolutely stunning op and it looks amazing on your beautiful hand. Congratulations!

Alabasterangel6 · 31/07/2019 17:59

It’s very beautiful. Love it! Really dramatic!

I’m a silversmith and would reiterate, opal is a soft stone on the MOHs scale. They tend to damage quite easily. If knocked face first or subjected to temperature extremes it could crack. I lost a corker of an opal that way. Look after it carefully!

JamesBondFire · 31/07/2019 18:06

Congratulations, it's beautiful!

user1471449295 · 31/07/2019 18:07

Oh my God it’s beautiful. Congratulations

LaurieFairyCake · 31/07/2019 18:29

Lovely OP

Is it an antique one?

Kitsmummy · 31/07/2019 18:41

Thank you 😊 yes is vintage but not sure how old, originally made by a Birmingham jewellery maker. I will be v careful with it!!!
