Where do your dds of this age buy swimwear from?

Dd wants a triangle shape top but not too skimpy. A more sporty look with good coverage.

Any ideas where she can look?

My friend’s daughter got one from New Look. Quite sporty looking, good coverage from ‘foamy’ kind of triangle top. Hope that makes sense!

@itchychin do you have a link to the New Look one? I can’t see anything like that on their website.

DD has a funky Speedo one

pisspants · 28/07/2019 22:46

Next has a really good range.of more substantial older girls bikinis

Pipandmum · 28/07/2019 22:50

I find my 14 year old really struggles as she’s a size 12 but most bathing suits have those moulded cups that are too big. Also found range of swimsuits dire this year. Hope you have better luck than me!

isabellerossignol · 28/07/2019 22:50

Regatta do nice swimwear - sporty but pretty. My 12 year old fitted into a ladies size extra small.

isabellerossignol · 28/07/2019 22:53

Actually I've just looked at the Regatta website and the bikinis there do not resemble the ones we got in the shop, the ones I saw were nowhere near as skimpy as that!

afromom · 28/07/2019 23:01

We got DSD one from sports direct last year. It's patterned with a zip up front. Covered enough for a 12 year old, but also definitely bikini looking. It took ages to find an appropriate one though (we traveled all the shops first!). As a non bikini wearer, I'd never imagined how hard it would be to find a 'respectable' bikini for a tween, they were all straps, cleavage and tiny triangles, or proper adult cups.

Missanneshirley · 28/07/2019 23:03

If it doesn't have to be an actual bikini look on surfdome website- i got dd nice things from there eg bikini bottoms that came with a kind of vest style top. One had a halter neck top that was quite supportive

twosoups1972 · 28/07/2019 23:37

Yes exactly afromom Sports Direct no good for us unfortunately, has to be online as dd is autistic and doesn't like shopping. Will have a look at the other suggestions.

I ordered this for my DD from Amazon (after trying all the shops in the world trying to find something suitable). It's lovely and well made.

iwantavuvezela · 28/07/2019 23:55

My 12year old DD ordered a swimsuit from sheen - she ordered the small from the women’s range, really lovely

Loads of styles and reasonable in price

Ohnononono · 29/07/2019 00:46

It is a gap in the market.
I have been looking for a bikini for my 13 year old, it's really difficult. There is very little out there. The kids clothes ranges tend to stop at age 12 and are often too babyish anyway. She is tall for her age so is in often in women's size 6 clothes.

After spending hours trawling the internet I have noticed that bikinis tend to come in two sorts: the underwired full control sort; or the skimpy revealing sort, with all sorts of gaps and holes and stringy bits. DD is self-conscious about her developing body and wants something she will be comfortable swimming in, not for posing on a sun lounger! And as her chest is tiny, the full moulded-cup sort is useless. There doesn't seem to be much at all for teenagers who don't want something either sexy or middle-aged!

I got one from Decathlon in the women's small size that met with approval:
www.decathlon.co.uk/crop-top-andrea-palmi-id_8528420.html

I have also just ordered two more from La Redoute so hopefully they will be ok... their teen range goes up to age 16, and also their women's range goes down to size 6.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 29/07/2019 06:58

Sports direct offer online shopping. Dd is 13 and got a bikini from there. It’s not triangle shaped but a cropped top style with high waisted bottoms.
She also got one from decathlon again they offer online.
Also try M&S as she usually gets a few things from there.

stucknoue · 29/07/2019 07:12

New look girls range used to be good, depends on her size though, asda have loads of size 6 ones in (and very little else left!) M&S online have their teen range

Duchessofealing · 29/07/2019 08:59

Possibly not what you’re after but Elizabeth Hurley Beach do children’s swimwear and there are often reasonably priced ones in the sale section. They come up slightly small so also take a look at the smaller sizes in adult ones (again in the clearance section)

absolutehush · 29/07/2019 09:08

Have you thought about H&M?

They do an 8-14 range which is quite good - grown up but not too skimpy?

A few styles as well!

absolutehush · 29/07/2019 09:09

More robust styles for swimming:

twosoups1972 · 29/07/2019 18:18

Some of these are really lovely but dd refuses to shop in the children's section! Even though I have pointed out they go up to age 14 and she's only 12.

I had no idea Sports Direct did online! Thank you, I will have a look there as well.

My dd is 14 now and has a couple from Holiister and Pink but at 12 she had some Boden kids ones

Miseryisabutterfly · 29/07/2019 18:28

Asos is good if your dd doesn’t want to shop because delivery is fast and returns are easy. Also could order a load of options and send things back! I also have an autistic child and always find options are good. If he gets his heart set on one thing and it doesn’t work out things go bad for us.

Something sporty/surfer would probably be most appropriate but also on trend? I’m going for a gander!

This is quite cute? ASOSNEW19 for 10% off.
