Can crop tops disappear already?

MamaJulietta · 24/07/2019 00:43

I have been waiting for these ghastly things to disappear for years, but they seem to be going nowhere. Is there a single place to wear these and not look awkward or inappropriate? I am getting annoyed at seeing tops that look cute at first glance, but then I realize there is only half of it. I have often wondered how retailers can justify charging the same price as a regular top for something that has only half the material.

You don't actually see many people wearing them either.

Deathraystare · 24/07/2019 07:22

Oh yes you do. Westfield was full of them the other day. Mainly worn on the young, tattooed, beautiful with slimmish figures.

Ohyesiam · 24/07/2019 07:29

Dd has the most ridiculous crop top. It’s just an off the shoulder frill about 5 inches deep.

We call it the TitFrill.

LolaSmiles · 24/07/2019 07:31

If there's a campaign going, I'm on board.

There's lots of people wearing them in my local town centre. Most people look ridiculous in them.

Fairylea · 24/07/2019 07:33

Dd loves them and wears them all the time with baggy jeans and trainers. She is a size 6-8 and 5ft 7 so carries it off well. Wouldn’t work for me (size 16 and shorter than dd!)

NerrSnerr · 24/07/2019 07:53

Most people look ridiculous in them.

Maybe they think you look ridiculous in what you wear? I personally don't wear cropped tops but if others want to then that's fine. We all like different things.

formerbabe · 24/07/2019 07:55

I swear they are only in fashion because manufacturers save money by using less material.

dudsville · 24/07/2019 08:05

I loved these when I was a teen/ young woman. I was thin, and mistakenly thought I would always be thin.

LolaSmiles · 24/07/2019 08:07

And they'd be fine to thing anything I wore was silly or ridiculous.

I happen to think that crop tops in the middle of town look ridiculous on most adults. At the beach probably less so, but the current trend in my local town centre is as soon as the sun comes out a reasonable minority of people seem to think this means wear as few clothes as possible. I don't think it's a good look.

OrdinarySnowflake · 24/07/2019 08:15

Lots of woman look great in them, unfortunately it's the ones with flat or concave stomachs, no stretch marks and a bit of a tan. Not the woman like me, with a midriff decorated with mummy stripes, and all with a bit of a jolly wobble and a pasty skin tone...

namechangeninjaevervigilant · 24/07/2019 08:27

I’ve never worn one ☹️ When I was young and lithe they weren’t a thing and I’m too old and flabby now. But on the young and lovely they look great.

RushianDisney · 24/07/2019 08:33

I love them, as I mostly wear high waisted jeans or skirts cropped tops are the perfect length. I cut a lot of my tshirts shorter when I get sick of tying them up. My waist is my best feature so I'm sure as hell going to wear things that complement it for as long as possible.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 24/07/2019 08:43

My dd wears them all the time.. I think anyone over the age of 16 with them on look awful (Jesus when did I turn into my mother)

Apolloanddaphne · 24/07/2019 09:07

My DD wears them all the time. She is 21, tall and slender and they look great on her. Why should shops stop selling an item that people like and want to buy?

cheesenpickles · 24/07/2019 09:07

The amount of things I've had to send back from ASOS as they've ended up being cropped and this hasn't been put in the description is huge.

I used to wear them as a size 6, washboard abs teen but now I just groan at the fact no matter how much weight I lose my stomach will never look good enough to carry it off.

HavelockVetinari · 24/07/2019 09:09

I quite like them, but at 34 I think I'm a bit too old for them unfortunately Sad

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 24/07/2019 09:21

I see them a fair bit round here, but only on the very slim and young. They look fine on them. I also only ever see them for sale in shops like Topshop, H&M, New Look etc, which are aimed at that sort of shopper. It has no impact on me because I rarely drag my fat, middle-aged self into those places anyway!

skippy67 · 24/07/2019 10:01

anyone over the age of 16 with them on look awful I'd better tell super toned, fat flat stomached 17yo dd to chuck all hers out then...🙄

skippy67 · 24/07/2019 10:06

*flat stomached

SolitudeAtAltitude · 24/07/2019 10:09

Oh, I think they look good on the young ones, not so much on me, but that's why I don't wear them Grin

LaVieilleHarpie · 24/07/2019 10:29

Why would they? I look amazing in them, so, LONG LIVE THE CROP TOP!

FlorenceLyons · 24/07/2019 10:47

My tall, willowy 12 year wears nothing but! I quite like a gently cropped top with high waisted trousers or a skirt - one that finishes on the waistband rather than above.

FlorenceLyons · 24/07/2019 10:47

I meant 12 year old, of course.

MrsFionaCharming · 24/07/2019 11:19

I’m 28, but I’ve recently lost 3 stone and started doing abs classes at the gym. I rock a crop top.

LolaSmiles · 24/07/2019 11:35

RushianDisney
That sounds like a nice way to style them.

The people I've seen looking nice in crop tops have had high waisted bottoms on, like a high waisted maxi skirt and the crop is a small crop, subtle tummy out.

Unlike the dominant look in my town which seems to be show all the flesh regardless of how silly it looks.
