Gold wedge sandals - Frumpy McFrumperson?

BenWillbondsPants · 20/07/2019 10:37

I need some gold sandals for an event in a marquee. Outfit is black wide leg trousers and cream top with a goldish tinge.

I want something comfortable and that I'll wear again. Are these OK? Not very exciting I know, but that's not what I'm after.

I like those but maybe I'm Frumpy's sister.

BenWillbondsPants · 20/07/2019 10:52

GrinGrin I only ask because DD (13) waltzed past my laptop, stopped and looked at them and said 'off on a cruise mum?' before walking off sniggering. Sarky wee mare ... Grin

they are terrible. sorry.

dudsville · 20/07/2019 10:56

Your daughter's line is funny!

I like the wedge and the colour of gold that this sandal is, the style isn't my taste but your outfit overall sounds nice.

kallilla · 20/07/2019 10:57

They are lovely, your daughter was just jealous!

onlyconnect · 20/07/2019 10:58

I like them. I'm not super stylish or super frumpy

Ohyesiam · 20/07/2019 10:58

Have a look at Lotta and Swedish Hasbeens, they do metallic ones and manage to be quirky and sexy.

DurhamDurham · 20/07/2019 11:15

I like them, they'll look great with black outfits. I mean if you were wearing head to toe gold or a lot of leopard print it would look tacky but you're not.
But then, I'm off on a cruise next week so maybe I have questionable taste Grin

AgentProvocateur · 20/07/2019 11:20

I was about to say they’re a bit newly-retired-teacher on a cruise before I read your daughter’s comment...Wink

CollaterlyS1sters · 20/07/2019 11:21

I think the shoes are fine but the outfit sounds so middle aged. They'd be fine with a black dress.

I think the shoes are fine but the outfit sounds so middle aged.

I am middle aged so I don't suppose that's a terrible thing. Grin

This is the outfit, the top is more creamy than it looks in the picture. Just with some earings and a bangle. So yes, it probably is a bit middle aged.

I've got those wedges in tan and they're really comfy. I do think gold shoes generally are a bit Judith Chalmers on a cruise but they are a nice style I think.

Herocomplex · 20/07/2019 12:31

I like gold shoes, especially with nice brown feet. Those are very practical for what you’re doing, you can stand for ages and walk on grass.
It’s the ankle strap sandal style that’s a bit less than sexy.
Are there any with a more flatform appearance?

CollaterlyS1sters · 20/07/2019 12:42

I am middle aged so I don't suppose that's a terrible thing. grin

Why worry about the shoes then? Grin

BenWillbondsPants · 20/07/2019 12:44

Loads Hero but I really don't like flatform shoes.

I might just order them and see what they look like with the outfit. DD will be very quick to tell me if I look awful! Grin

Why worry about the shoes then?

I suppose because I still want to look nice and still make an effort. I don't mind looking middle-aged, but I want to look good too. That didn't stop when I hit 45. Smile

The shoes are fine and very much in keeping with the whole outfit.

EnidButton · 20/07/2019 13:02

They're nice. Dune isn't a frumpy shoe kind of store (although I'm sure there's the odd pair). It's prob just the metallic gold that can top into cruise territory but I think the style saves them.

Herocomplex · 20/07/2019 13:15

🙂 have a great time! Gold shoes always make me think of chic Spanish women rather than cruises.

RomaineCalm · 20/07/2019 13:20

I do quite like them although I suspect I am also a member of Family Frumpyperson. Blush

Rather than a wedge I wonder whether a block-heeled sandal would look better with your outfit. Still practical but a little more dressy.

I do love your top and trousers - much nicer than the black trousers/cream top that you described!

ShinyRuby · 20/07/2019 13:23

I think they're perfect. Stylish but comfortable & the gold adds a bit of sparkle. Whole outfit is great, not middle aged at all! Have a good time.

hotcrossbun4321 · 20/07/2019 14:54

I love them, and think they look classic, but then my ideal summer style probably does veer into cruise ship territory - a love of big tortoiseshell sunnies, wedges and lots of white and gold. Currently on holiday and admiring the group of 50-something British women who are dressed up to the nines but look extremely glam and like they’re having a fab time.

StCharlotte · 20/07/2019 14:56

I think the outfit, including the shoes, looks supremely classy.

And what do 13 year olds know about style?!

gower4 · 20/07/2019 15:01

The shoes are ok, but the outfit screams 1998 at me. Sorry!!

mimibunz · 20/07/2019 15:07

The late 90s were a fabulously elegant time. Think of Carolyn Bessette.
