Gold wedge sandals - Frumpy McFrumperson?

I need some gold sandals for an event in a marquee. Outfit is black wide leg trousers and cream top with a goldish tinge.

I want something comfortable and that I'll wear again. Are these OK? Not very exciting I know, but that's not what I'm after.

Oh my! people are being so harsh! I think the outfit is stylish for someone who’s not a youngster (OP I would describe myself like this too) and the shoes are fine for the occasion in my opinion.

BenWillbondsPants · 20/07/2019 20:36

The shoes are ok, but the outfit screams 1998 at me. Sorry!!

That's ok, the 90s are back! I'll be in fashion for once ... 😂

I think all 3 are lovely, you'll look great

top and trousers potentially great but I would have to have funkier shoes with that. I think they make it too casual. It's the cork.

I'd go for something flat or with a lower chunky heel, maybe a square toe to go full retro 90s.

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/07/2019 21:01

I love a gold shoe or sandal despite living in hipsterville (Shoreditch). I am slowly weaning myself off them but.... Blush

I agree with the poster above.....the cork makes them too casual for the outfit. You need something either a bit more dressy (if it's heels) or something flat (to make it look more edgy). I'd actually go for some heeled mules from Neous but I'm a bit obsessed with Neous shoes at the moment so just ignore me. [grin}

It's a 'smart but casual' event, which I always find a pain in the arse because it's in between. I like one or the other!

There is FA wrong with wearing middle age style clothes when you are that age. Please, if you are 40 or older, understand that you do not have to pretend to be 20 or 60. Wear what you know to be comfortable, and think flattering, and have a great time not stressing about other people's opinions. You think it's a good outfit? your partner agrees you look good? Job done!

BenWillbondsPants · 20/07/2019 21:51

@XingMing I couldn't agree more. I've no desire to look like a 20 year old, I looked like that when I was, well, 20. I'm 52 and happy to look like a 52 year old. I look after myself, run and eat well and like to make an effort with my clothes. I'm sure some people think you should just give up on yourself when you hit 40.

I just don't think the shoes go with the outfit, nothing to do with age
The shoes would look ok well, a bit better, I hate them tbh with a tan and denim or a flowery midi dress
The outfit is quite sleek so the cork looks wrong

XingMing · 20/07/2019 22:41

From my extensive Blush shoe wardrobe, I'd probably choose my 3cm heel sandal boots if the hemline worked. But another Blush I am borderline fashion obsessed, even at over 60.
