Just that really
I feel I’m to old ,it’s way past my back bra strap..
But what would I have instead?

Love your hair Cutesy ... you look like an ad for the fabulous Dyson Airwrap :-)

Soola · 18/07/2019 13:57

53 and have long hair with a fringe.

Eyebrows and body hair have become less but the hair in my head is much thicker than when I was young. It’s not coarser, there is just a lot more of it.

Short hair would make me look older and doesn’t suit me.

I love having long hair.

Bluntness100 · 18/07/2019 14:02

Jeez I'm fifty and my hair is long, small of my back long. No intention to cut it, when it was short, many moons ago it was very ageing on me.

RavenLG · 18/07/2019 14:10

DPs mum is early 60s and has hair just past shoulder length, blonde but lots of greys mixed in, looks thick and better than my shitty thin / fine mess. I'm toying with shaving all mine off and living with wigs. Would kill for hair like Cutesy's

haverhill · 18/07/2019 14:16

Like Cutesy, I’m 49 and my hair is the longest it’s ever been. I like the versatility of it and I think it suits me. It’s fine and straight but shiny and soft.
Have you hair however you like it. There are no rules.

bringincrazyback · 18/07/2019 19:20

I know someone who's always saying 'No woman over 40 should have hair past her shoulders.' She is one of the squarest people I have ever known.

The only rule for how to have your hair is, have it how you want it. I'm 51 and mine's just past my shoulders now but been much longer up until recently i.e. halfway down my back. (Didn't cut it because of my age, only because it's cooler in warm weather.) Mind you, I have a pierced nose as well, so there's clearly no hope for me. Grin

growlingbear · 18/07/2019 19:21

I'm 55 and have long hair. Saw an old friend I'd not seen in years today. She is very glamorous and her first words were: You look so different, so much younger! I think it's the hair.

BarbarAnna · 18/07/2019 19:25

I am nearly 50 with long hair. Mine is in bad condition which I think does age me. If it’s in good condition, I would definitely keep it.

justasking111 · 18/07/2019 19:27

Like my hair fairly long, still thick and wavy. In my sixties, Some grey but it looks like streaks. Do what you want. You can wear it up or down.

I’m almost 49, and have long hair. It’s kind of bra strap length at the back and a bit past shoulder length at the front.
Just keep yours regularly trimmed and don’t let it lose its shape.
I was growing out various random highlights and lowlights, and was toying with the idea of letting the grey grow out.
It looked tatty though, so I had it re-dyed my natural colour but without ammonia so it can fade and the odd greys coming through don’t look odd.
I think my fear of long hair when older was looking too «
I think long hair in a good condition and style is youthful.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/07/2019 19:29

@justasking111 and @CutesyUserName
Your hair is gorgeous !

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/07/2019 19:30

I meant to say ; didn’t want to have long hair looking «witchy»

MonSacEstDu31RueCambon · 18/07/2019 19:33

Yes my Mother keeps telling me my hair is too long. I had to tell her that I wasn't seeking the approval of women nearing 80.

If I want anybody's acceptance / approval it's from people my own age. Employers, new acquaintances etc...

Leftielefterson · 18/07/2019 19:36

I think it really depends. If your hair is thin and wispy id definitely go short but if it’s thick and lustrous then keep it long.

Some women with long hair over 50 look a bit witchy so it really does depend

Roomba · 18/07/2019 19:39

My mother is one of those who believe all women over 40 must sport a cauliflower bob. I get comments about my long hair all the time, she's taken to reassuring me I don't have to cut it all at once, I could go gradually shorter until it's above my ears... Also I should remove my piercings now I'm aged Grin

CMOTDibbler · 18/07/2019 19:41

I'm 46 and have silver/white bra strap length hair. It's shiny, soft and full and I love it - and get lots of compliments on it

bobstersmum · 18/07/2019 19:48

I'm 38 with very long hair and I am the same as you I rarely wear it down, but it is thick and looks nice when straightened. I'm getting highlights tomorrow ready for my hols next week so hoping that will perk me up and give me the confidence to wear it down, otherwise I am considering a cut. Age is irrelevant imo.

OneFootintheRave · 18/07/2019 20:24

@Roomba cauliflower bob! GrinGrin

XingMing · 18/07/2019 20:31

At 62, I know a pixie suits me better than long hair, but my hair grows out not down. It has been the same since I was 16. I have tried repeatedly to have long hair, very hard, but it doesn't suit my face or my hair.

Wavyheaded · 18/07/2019 20:48

You should only cut your hair if YOU want a change, not because of your age, or some old-fashioned rule about older women having to have short hair. I'm 47 with long hair, no intentions of cutting it, but if I ever do, it won't be because I'm 'past a certain age'. Actually I rather look forward to being a little white-haired old lady!

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 18/07/2019 21:31

Mary Beard looks ace....

Fairnair · 19/07/2019 07:59

I’am 48 and my hair is a couple of inches past the small of my back. Always had long hair, well apart from when I was born obviously! Lucky that I do have thick hair, nice colour, and I am not having it cut shorter any time soon. Starting to go grey though, but at the moment blends in with the lighter shades of my hair. I will see how the grey looks, and will probably gradually get it cut shorter, but never perming it. Don’t fancy the faff of dying it which I have never done.

You have your hair how you want it OP, don’t let other people, or outdated “rules” dictate.

pilates · 19/07/2019 08:09

It depends on the condition of it.

Dry and wispy doesn’t look good.

Floisme · 19/07/2019 08:27

It can look great and it can also look shit. I wouldn’t say age has nothing to do with it - as posters have said hair often gets thinner after the menopause. Also if your face gets saggy and jowly then long hair can drag it down further. That’s definitely the case for me - when I have a hair cut it’s like a face lift.

Or you might just be bored if you’ve had it long for years. That would be a good reason for me. I’m a big believer in changing your look - keep things fresh.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 19/07/2019 08:53

Im 45 and i have shit hair....nothing to do with my age its just shit.
