Would it bother you if your doctor was wearing shoes like these?

I love them, but can't really justify them unless I wear them for work, at least sometimes. They have loads of styles - some are definitely innappropriate but wondered if some would be ok. Rest of outfit is usually colourful but fairly smart/ conservative.

no - as long as they treat me for whatever I go in with effectively I don't give a toss - they can even wear a clown's outfit.

HeadintheiClouds · 16/07/2019 12:18

Odd clothes choices like knitted ties are absolutely not comparable with shoes clearly aimed at children. My dd refused to wear Lelli Kellys past the age of 7.
I seriously would think less of an adult professional wearing them in a doctors surgery.

Pretendapony · 16/07/2019 12:20

I think you should get a pair! They’d make me smile! And people saying you’re immature? I don’t think an immature person would get through medical exams so that seems a daft thing to say!

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2019 12:21

Not the smiley face ones rest are probably ok

If you’re a GP I’d most likely not notice as they tend to be behind a desk

Ethicalbluey45 · 16/07/2019 12:21

It wouldn't bother me at all what kind of shoes they are wearing as long as they are clean and they are competent enough to help me with my health issue

IncrediblySadToo · 16/07/2019 12:25

Of course not but I don’t have s stick up my arse!!

I like the Bon voyage & Union Flag ones.

Might even flex the plastic

Wonder if they’re comfy?!

Ifancythor · 16/07/2019 12:26

@HollowTalk- “I'd wonder why an adult woman doing a serious professional job would think they were the sort of shoes she should wear to work.”

I’m a grown up doing a serious job and I own several pairs of these and irregular choice which I wear to my serious job without it effecting my work one single bit. Lighten up

tillytoodles1 · 16/07/2019 12:27

I went to the Drs to have a dressing changed, the nurse was wearing sparkly trainers.

Ifancythor · 16/07/2019 12:27

@IncrediblySadToo they are super comfy , very flat so if you are not used to super flag shoes you might need a bit of getting used to them x

TakeOneForTheBreem · 16/07/2019 12:28

I'd think you were possibly a bit odd but it might actually make me less scared or intimidated.

I mean, they're hideous. But that's ok. Live and let live.

MyRaGaiaStarFishPieA · 16/07/2019 12:29

"I love them BUT when my DD was seeing CAMHS, one of the people she saw was wearing something similar, plus wacky bright red glasses and a tie-dye dress. All I could think was - you're not taking this seriously."

Or maybe that they are trying to put the patient, you know, the CHILD at ease? When my son and nephews where going through CAMHS i was more concerned with the staff doing their job and showing a caring and compassionate attitude than worrying about what they wear. Myself, I swing between brightly coloured hair, amazing shoes, patterned dresses and assymetrical bobs and am heavily tattooed but it does not impact on my ability to teach children in any way shape or form. Every supervision I have ever had says that I am wonderful with the kids and they really respond to me. Even that I am a credit to the schools I work in.....If an adult judges me on my shoe choices then that is their small minded issue and bugger all to do with me. Children are remarkably and wonderfuly open minded, it is a terrible thing to batter that out of them with boring greige clothes and being forced to conform just "because".

Buy them OP and wear the hell out of them. I am a fan of Irregular Choice myself and have 60 odd pairs. Being a wheel chair user has its benefits as I get to wear the super crippling styles that I could never walk in.....like my new dinosaurs

I think they're great.

I'm a teacher and I'd wear these. I wear dresses with dinosaurs and space rockets on them for work because it makes me smile.

I'm a grown up and mature professional but I'm still me.

If my GP wore those, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I don't think they're childish - they're fun and who is too old, too professional or too highly qualified to still be fun? I like to know that I'm still dealing with a person.

Paramicha · 16/07/2019 12:29

Thanks for the link I'm getting some of these, I'm not a doctor though.

maybe the doc just likes them, maybe trying to cheer patients.
Whatever the reason, they're really nice.

Nonnymum · 16/07/2019 12:30

I don't care what my doctor wears as long as he/she knows what they are doing

sugarbum · 16/07/2019 12:31

I like chocolaticas and I wouldn't care if my doc was wearing them.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 16/07/2019 12:31

I worked with a surgeon who walked around in just in socks, didn’t bother his patients in the slightest. I wouldn’t mind at all if my doctor had those shoes.

BandsAndBeer · 16/07/2019 12:31

If an adult judges me on my shoe choices then that is their small minded issue and bugger all to do with me

Exactly.

WalksWithDinosaurs · 16/07/2019 12:31

I wouldn't mind at all! and I'm in the hospital a lot!! its also a point that if people see them and ask about them, it might also halp to put patients at ease!! buy away!!!

KatherineJaneway · 16/07/2019 12:31

I doubt I'd notice, I'd be more concerned about why I was seeing you.

mumwon · 16/07/2019 12:31

@Impatienceismyvirtue when you go through that type of diagnosis for a loved one - the thing you notice is what is said, how it is said & the feeling of empathy projected - what the doctor or nurse is wearing on their feet is not likely to register let alone influence that. (Many staff wear coloured clogs for comfort - so what? It may be they cheer them up if they have a difficult day ahead & I think that's OK too)

RosesAndRaindrops · 16/07/2019 12:31

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest, they look fun.
@RiddleyW
And I’m an adult woman doing a serous professional job. Today I’m doing it in sparkly trainers

I'm loving your style Grin

tiredandnotfeelingveryblessed · 16/07/2019 12:33

I work in a similar environment. I wish I could wear jazzy shoes. Even our socks have to be plain black (though I flout that rule and wear socks as bright and jazzy as I can find). Lots of the drs I work with wear distinctive items.

Personally I think that anyone who judges your professionalism based on your shoes is also likely to judge you on many other irrelevant things.

If you like them, buy them.

caringcarer · 16/07/2019 12:34

I would not care if she was barefoot as long as she treated me professionally.

Unburnished · 16/07/2019 12:37

You're joking right?

If you're a doctor, with presumably a substantial salary, why do you need to justify spending £42 on a pair of shoes by wearing them for work? Just wear them in your spare time.

I think they're ugly and inappropriate.

Lindy2 · 16/07/2019 12:37

If you were just seeing children at work then yes they would be fun.
As a GP seeing a range of patients then no, they aren't very professional. I imagine from time to time you have to be the deliverer of bad news to some patients and I don't think in that situation cartoon shoes are appropriate.
As a GP though I'm pretty sure you can actually afford to buy yourself a pair for just wearing in your free time where you can enjoy them.
