Would it bother you if your doctor was wearing shoes like these?

I love them, but can't really justify them unless I wear them for work, at least sometimes. They have loads of styles - some are definitely innappropriate but wondered if some would be ok. Rest of outfit is usually colourful but fairly smart/ conservative.

I like to see people in quirky clothes / shoes. I'd be happy to see my doctor in something like this.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 16/07/2019 11:51

As long as you are clean and tidy and deal with me in a professional manner, I don't much of a shit about what colour your shoes are and I can't quite believe some of the seriously uptight answers on here.

WhosThere · 16/07/2019 11:52

If you buy them, don't forget to namechange @BloodyMaud
I imagine there aren't too many other GP's wearing those type of shoes.

ishouldbedoingsomework · 16/07/2019 11:52

I once had a GP who always wore power suits and heels. I didn't like it as it all felt a bit corporate and impersonal. (New GP looks a bit scruffy which is much better as we match) Smile
I do question your fashion taste a little bit but you would come across as much more of a real human being, I think, and I would find it much easier to relate to you.
Go for it if you like them.

isitwhatitis · 16/07/2019 11:53

If they are a good gp then why not.
My sons teacher wears irregular choice shoes, she has some toy story ones apparently

LoveGrowsWhere · 16/07/2019 11:53

Go for it. Male surgeons still seem to often wear jaunty ties. If you choose the emoji smile ones I would assume you were trying to be child-friendly.

BeyondMyWits · 16/07/2019 11:53

Wear what you like, I'll think what I like anyhow.

Cannot imagine wearing a smart suit or dress with them myself, but whatever floats your boat. So long as you are aware that yes, some people will judge you. Some will think "wacky", others "childish", others "out of place", others "individual" and many, many shades in between.

Bluetrews25 · 16/07/2019 11:53

Well, they look comfy and are flat enough for you to run to any crash calls you may get, so go for it.
Strange how men would not be thought childish for wearing a Mr Men tie, but women cannot have similar on their feet!

needlessbanana · 16/07/2019 11:54

Wouldn't bother me at all, even though I don't particularly like them. So go for it!

RockinHippy · 16/07/2019 11:55

Not at all, I'd think you were great

Ninkaninus · 16/07/2019 11:55

The thing is, for the people that don’t mind it’s obviously not then it’s not an issue, is it. It’s the people that do mind that you need to pitch to. And a lot of people want to feel that their doctor is a responsible, serious, professional person - it doesn’t really matter whether you personally think that’s an old fashioned or po faced view, there will be people that feel that way.

Personally I couldn’t give a fuck what my doctor or any of the consultants at hospital wear/wore, but some people would. And in a doctor-patient scenario I do think that matters.

I don’t like the current trend for everything being all about the individual and their narcissistic need for self-expression holding priority over everything else (not specific to this scenario, just a general comment).

Why do you need to ’be a unicorn’, or whatever, at work? Some things are best left to leisure time (again, not specific to this, just general musing).

But, definitely buy the shoes if they will make you happy.

PurpleDaisies · 16/07/2019 11:56

I would say that a male poster asking for advice wouldn’t be wearing appropriate professional dress.

You’re often dealing with people on the worst days of their lives. I don’t think shoes like that are appropriate.

nettie434 · 16/07/2019 11:57

I don’t even see my GP’s feet if they are sitting at their desk. I would be very happy if they wore these shoes. A good deal more suitable than Connie Beauchamp’s heels on Casualty. I know it’s only drama but how could anybody wear shoes like that in A&E? For me, professionalism is about how people behave, not what they wear.

TinyTear · 16/07/2019 11:57

nope, i would say "MATCH" as i have the butterflies and sunflowers from that brand

BarryBarryTaylor · 16/07/2019 11:57

Absolutely not!

Lilicat1013 · 16/07/2019 11:58

If I went to see a doctor wearing those I wouldn't mind at all. It it was an appointment for your youngest I would be delighted.
He is autistic and really doesn't like medical appointments or strangers. He does however like shoes, especially bright, fun shoes like that. He would probably sit at your feet and shout shoes repeatedly but it would mean you had a better chance of being able to check him over rather than him having to restrained to be checked.

BarryBarryTaylor · 16/07/2019 11:58

Sorry to clarify it absolutely would not bother me in the slightest, in fact I would love it 😊

ginghamtablecloths · 16/07/2019 12:00

They look safe and comfy, if a little childish in style. It wouldn't bother me as long as she was a good doctor.

Jishuwa · 16/07/2019 12:01

My dentist wears Crocs and jazzy colourful socks with sharks and stuff on. I just smile to myself

Crochetcrochetcrochet · 16/07/2019 12:01

Absolutely fine by me, they'd make me smile.

One of the neurologists I used to work with wore the loudest, brightest, silliest ties I've ever seen. He always made me smile.

supersop60 · 16/07/2019 12:02

I love them BUT when my DD was seeing CAMHS, one of the people she saw was wearing something similar, plus wacky bright red glasses and a tie-dye dress. All I could think was - you're not taking this seriously.

Ivegotthree · 16/07/2019 12:02

Yes they look like children's shoes so I would think you were weird and therefore doubt your professional judgement.

bananasaidso · 16/07/2019 12:02

It would be better if your were working in paediatrics but bonkers otherwise Grin. But tbh it doesn't matter what footgear you are wearing as long as they are comfortable. I would even think you are brave to wear these type of shoes outside the house lol

Fibbke · 16/07/2019 12:03

Yes i think i might too!

TantricTwist · 16/07/2019 12:06

You're a trained doctor who's been to medical school so yes wear these fabulous shoes and your patients will love you for it.

Just avoid the smiley face ones.
