Would it bother you if your doctor was wearing shoes like these?

I love them, but can't really justify them unless I wear them for work, at least sometimes. They have loads of styles - some are definitely innappropriate but wondered if some would be ok. Rest of outfit is usually colourful but fairly smart/ conservative.

As long as they are comfy for you, I'd find it quite a good talking point as I get nervous when I go to the doctor's! A lot of people wouldn't notice anyway to be honest, go for it :)

Fwaltz · 17/07/2019 20:38

If they make you feel happy, go for it!

Firecarrier · 17/07/2019 20:38

Who cares? I wouldn't personally wear them but I think they're 'fun' if they make you smile then it's all good, really can't understand the moaners saying it's unprofessional! Professionalism is more to do with attitude surely. We shouldn't be putting people who do certain jobs in boring little boxes, break free Grin

TigerTooth · 17/07/2019 20:39

No, I like them, esp if she’s young, they’re fun,

womaninthedark · 17/07/2019 20:42

I'd think she was human. That's rare in doctors.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 17/07/2019 20:43

I love the map ones, I think my feet are too wide but if they weren't I would buy some. I have a serious job as well.

LynetteScavo · 17/07/2019 20:51

I wouldn't care.

I'd be too busy judging your hair and nails Wink

Bloodless · 17/07/2019 20:54

I guarantee I wouldn’t notice them but if I did They’d make me smile! 😊 go for it, get the shoes.... life is short 🤗

Catsinthecupboard · 17/07/2019 21:00

I like them!

But I didn't like the gyn who did a VERY bad job on her manicure. It was a design that she had seen in a magazine. The only similarity were the colors.

S0upertrooper · 17/07/2019 21:07

Would it be acceptable dress code for HCAs or nurses, physios, midwives etc? (Rhetorical question as I know it wouldn't) If not I think it shouldn't be acceptable for Doctors. If you work in paeds I think flexibility and fun is acceptable. Wear what you want in your own time but n adult care I think a degree of professional dress is required in your line of work. I couldn't take you seriously, I'd think you were child like and attention seeking.

Craftycorvid · 17/07/2019 21:08

Love ‘em, OP. If I rocked up to see you and you were wearing those, I’d be ‘yes, I’ve found my people’ 😁. I’d also grill you as to where you got them.

celebrityskin · 17/07/2019 21:15

Think it would be helpful to know your speciality.. but I am partial to a quirky shoe myself so would like to say buy them girlfriend!! Takes me back to my SHO jobs and it was practically part of the job description for psychiatrists and psychologists to have mad shoes!!

Micksee15 · 17/07/2019 21:19

ok so....I want to say want to say wear whatever you want BUT I agree they arent professional 🙈
great if you work on a children's ward but not for daily use as a GP.

would you be impressed if your fireman turned up in Hunter wellies or your local cop in uniform and stilettos? (maybe for some yes!) but all in all, no.

a time and a place.

maybe the more tones down ones but please not the" in ya face" ones!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/07/2019 21:23

No, I don't like them and I don't think they're appropriate for a GP ( or any HCP really)

Wear them in your own time if you want .

But if I go to my GP , its about me . I don't want to think " My , you're whacky/umconventional/human"

I'd be "What the feck were you thinking ?"

Uniform at work is there for a reason.

A dress, a tunic and trousers, a suit . It inspires confidence.

I would not want to be given serious possibly life changing news by someone wearing those .

My work shoes are flat black lace-up, inoffensive and professional.

(There was a hair thread on MN a while ago, same thing . Do I want a GP with blue hair ? No .
Would I think "Oh you're human quirky and a bit oddball, I've warmed to you"? Again, No.

Micksee15 · 17/07/2019 21:24

ALWAYS gonna get for and against on any social media post though!

pinkpantherpink · 17/07/2019 21:33

Go for it!

missbattenburg · 17/07/2019 21:59

Do doctors still exist? I haven't seen one in the wild for years. Thought they'd all gone 😀

I could not care less what shows a Dr wears and am not convinced the worst day in anyone's life is made any better by a Dr wearing sensible shoes.

Seriously, trying to remember the times I've heard about close friends and family members being diagnosed with life shortening problems (eg cancer). None of them ever said "at least the Dr looked professional". Nor did they ever say "finding out I have cancer is all the worse because the Dr that told me had silly shoes on".

Dita73 · 17/07/2019 22:10

I have some of these shoes. They look cute but if I’m honest they’re really not worth the money

AlexaAmbidextra · 17/07/2019 22:13

You would strike me as results driven

Why? Confused

BrightSpells · 17/07/2019 22:14

I'd feel more comfortable with you wearing any of those shoes.

This thread is fantastic proof that you can't please everybody!

InfiniteCurve · 17/07/2019 22:17

Choice of shoes - one thing.
Ability to do job - completely different thing.

As long as my GP is kind and competent I couldn't are less what they wear.
The last gynae I saw,pre investigation as an in patient, was wearing killer heels ,and a knee length dress that was actually see through gauze from about six inches down the thigh, and displayed impressive amounts of cleavage.I assumed that she was professional and able to do her job because she had a string of qualifications and was consultant grade...

Housemum · 17/07/2019 22:24

GPs don't have a uniform so as long as you can comfortably move around in them to examine a patient, help someone on/off a couch, maybe run into reception if someone collapses I couldn't give a stuff what you wear on your feet!

SherbrookeFosterer · 17/07/2019 22:26

It's a "thing" apparently, for GPs, especially the young ones, to dress down nowadays.

madcatladyforever · 17/07/2019 22:33

Don't wear the smiley face ones unless you regularly take smack. They have drug connotations.

EllenMP · 17/07/2019 22:35

I love these shoes and would love to see them on my doctor. They would tell me she was a real person with a zest for life. Why wouldn't you want your doctor to be like that?
