Would it bother you if your doctor was wearing shoes like these?

I love them, but can't really justify them unless I wear them for work, at least sometimes. They have loads of styles - some are definitely innappropriate but wondered if some would be ok. Rest of outfit is usually colourful but fairly smart/ conservative.

Well the OP hasn't been back so this was possibly just goady bollocks.

But if it isn't - FUCK NO ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR GODDAMN MIND. I'm a nurse working in a pretty heavy area and if one of the Regs came in wearing these I honestly think I would have to say something. You may as well be wearing a clowns nose. And no adult wants Patch Adams telling them they have cancer.

Sooverthemill · 17/07/2019 11:30

It would mildly bother me if any adult wore them. I think they are hideous but my opinion shouldn't matter

LunaTheCat · 17/07/2019 12:44

They are great shoes! A GP colleague has very similar.another colleague wears crazy docs and extremely colourful clothes
You’re on your feet quite a lot as a GP and my shoes need to be comfy.
Being a GP is hard, long hours - clothes that make me feel good and better about myself help.

Angbunnyboo · 17/07/2019 12:58

I love them - go for it!

HeadintheiClouds · 17/07/2019 13:11

Does wearing crazy docs really make you feel better about the long hours you put in, Luna? I get the need for comfortable shoes, sure, but that’s all Confused
Does it give you a buzz if a patient shrieks in delight at the sight of your daft shoes, assuming that would ever happen?

Ellapaella · 17/07/2019 14:39

@ElspethFlashman snap. I'm a nurse and would think anyone wearing those shoes was unprofessional. Nurses wouldn't be allowed to wear them and I think Doctors should be following a similar dress code to be honest. Why one rule for nurses and another for Doctors? Surely we should be presenting ourselves in a similar fashion to our patients.
I would also wonder why any grown woman would want to wear little children's shoes because that is exactly what they look like.

Ellapaella · 17/07/2019 14:40

@DrinkFeckArseGirls I think you might mean an immunologist?Wink

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 17/07/2019 14:51

I meant an allergy specialist.
Just googled and that would be allergist (who knew).
“Allergologist” exists but means a scientist who studies allergology so not patient facing.

SirTobyBelch · 17/07/2019 15:07

Is that even a word - allergologist?!

Yes.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 17/07/2019 15:14

Ellapaella

I'm a nurse

I'm guessing not in the allergies department then... 😛

PurpleDaisies · 17/07/2019 15:17

I’ve never hear of the term “allergologist” used in the uk.

Ellapaella · 17/07/2019 15:18

@MonkeyToesOfDoom funnily enough no... never even heard of it! Blush cardiology for the last 15 years, we must exist in our own little bubble..

Ellapaella · 17/07/2019 15:19

In fact in my defence I've just googled immunologist and it is in fact a doctor who specialises in the treatment of allergies. So I was right Grin

ohnoessexgirl · 17/07/2019 15:20

Er......no. Why would it?

LoafofSellotape · 17/07/2019 15:22

Allergist,surely?

BlueCornsihPixie · 17/07/2019 16:59

They are tacky toddler shoes. If I saw someone wearing them it would give me the creeps a little bit, I would think why is this person dressed like a toddler. It would be like if you spoke to me in a little girl voice or had a jojo bow in your hair. It reminds me a bit of my little pony fetishes. They are weird.

They are different to sparky shoes or colourful docs because those are at least adult shapes, these are children's shoes.

I am anti wacky tie too, I used to work with consultant who wore them and he was a total wanker who thought he was above everyone. So maybe that's tainted it

I don't like 'crazy shoes' at the best of times, they scream attention seeker and insecure but I wouldn't think a Dr was a worse Dr for wearing them. But these I would really question.

I would also be distracted by wondering wtf you had on your feet and would also potentially miss what you were saying. You cannot wear these as a Dr, at the of the day even if the majority of patients don't mind there will be idler patients who will. And if they question your professionalism, they question your judgment and they will also question your advice

RaisinsRuinEverything · 17/07/2019 17:16

Love those shoes 😍 I’d probably waste valuable consultation time asking her where she got them though.

GrandMarmoset · 17/07/2019 17:29

Love them and, no wouldn’t bother me at all.

Jogonandshutup · 17/07/2019 17:32

I’m not keen but you should wear what you want - hate how people say you shouldn’t wear them in a particular job etc - WEAR WHAT YOU WANT 😬

Chartreuser · 17/07/2019 17:33

I am a bit Shock at the assumptions being made due to shoes. But I don't understand getting aerated over clothing anyway.

I think they are great, OP, and if we meet you for any of DS or mine many hospital appointments I would salute you for finding happiness where you can and not yet being broken enough to quit due to the state of the NHS

JPduck · 17/07/2019 17:34

If you like, why not😊

MrsGrindah · 17/07/2019 17:34

To be honest I even have a problem with Simpson’s socks and the like! Hate these shoes. I’d worry if you were a surgeon that there’s something wrong with your eyesight!

msmith501 · 17/07/2019 17:37

I like my doctors to be medically qualified and empathetic. Couldn't care two hoots about shoes, although in the OPs case the shoes say that she has a sense of fun and I think that's important also.

formerbabe · 17/07/2019 17:37

If you were a paediatrician, they'd be brilliant. Would probably really cheer up the kids and be a great talking point. Otherwise, they're probably not terribly appropriate.

pinkstripeycat · 17/07/2019 17:41

I would think she was funky and quite hippyish. They’re funny and happy 😃
