Would it bother you if your doctor was wearing shoes like these?

I love them, but can't really justify them unless I wear them for work, at least sometimes. They have loads of styles - some are definitely innappropriate but wondered if some would be ok. Rest of outfit is usually colourful but fairly smart/ conservative.

Ploppymoodypants · 16/07/2019 20:43

I think they are perfectly fine for a doctor.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 16/07/2019 20:57

Why can't I find the cloud ones on the website?

HeadintheiClouds · 16/07/2019 21:01

They’d really say brainy to you, Sandals?

avocadoincident · 16/07/2019 21:12

I love hot chocolate shoes and they are super comfy. X

GO FOR IT

avocadoincident · 16/07/2019 21:14

Also 1 adult woman here at the top of her professional game wearing crazy shoes and still managing to perform...who would've thought it possible hey?

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 16/07/2019 21:17

Lady doctor Hmm

KittenSnuggler · 16/07/2019 21:19

I'd wonder why an adult woman doing a serious professional job would think they were the sort of shoes she should wear to work.

I'm an adult woman doing a serious professional job as a senior manager, probably closer to retirement age than you are, and would happily wear them. And I'd be delighted to see my colleagues and team members wearing them! I know some employers are regressive and patriarchal when it comes to work attire for women - obviously supported by some women, I assume they are women, based on some posts here - but I really couldn't work for an employer that thinks clothing/footwear should be from the 1950s. Are we talking plain lace ups/low heeled court shoes with tan tights? Bugger that!

How exactly is my seniority/qualification/experience expressed by a shoe?

OP, you know your patients best. Obviously you'll prep your cases before consults so you wouldn't wear the smiley shoes when delivering bad news. And if you're in paeds your patients will love them. If you were my GP I'm not sure I'd notice. If I did I'd probably ask you where you got them from.

azulmariposa · 16/07/2019 21:20

Maybe not the smiley face ones, but not a problem with the rest!

They look like comfortable, practicable shoes. Albeit in a funky design. To be honest, I wouldn't care what a doctor was wearing as long as they made me feel better!

SinglePringle · 16/07/2019 21:21

I think they are very unattractive and childish. I would think someone wearing them had arrested development and wanted to retain elements of ‘the child’ as an adult. I would judge a doctor / lawyer etc for wearing them.

However, I’d have to get over it if the professional dealing with me proved themselves to be competent. Although I still think they’d be wholly inappropriate in, say, Court.

madeyemoodysmum · 16/07/2019 21:22

Wouldn’t bother me. I’d ask where you for them. Cute

PleaseGoogleIt · 16/07/2019 21:23

My old GP did wear shoes exactly like that, never bothered me, although I was a child then! Didn't seem to bother my mum and it wouldn't bother me now.

I'm VERY much of the opinion that people should wear what they want and feel good in to work - it's conducive to better output. I'm so glad I work somewhere that doesn't believe that women should have to look 'professional' (whatever that means) just because they have a professional role.

I wear jeans and converse most days. My feet are happy, so am I.

nocoolnamesleft · 16/07/2019 21:24

What speciality? They'd be normal for paeds.

sqeakywheel · 16/07/2019 21:25

I never notice what my doctor is wearing. 😳

sqeakywheel · 16/07/2019 21:26

I forgot to add, I love these shoes. I can't afford them sadly.

Ivestoppedreadingthenews · 16/07/2019 21:26

I think some would be okay, but not sure about the smiley face one - bit creepy.

HeadintheiClouds · 16/07/2019 21:26

I have to agree, Single. I would assume the person had been desperate for a pair of Lelli Kelly’s at the age of 6 and never got them, so had defiantly bought themselves a pair with their first pay packet.
A bit like all those posters who bought themselves a Mr. Frosty aged 35, having never recovered from the trauma of Santa failing to deliver.

PlinkPlink · 16/07/2019 21:28

Love them.

I love it when people allow a bit of their personality to shine through their professional persona.

Go for them!

This thread is putting me off the human race

Also 1 adult woman here at the top of her professional game wearing crazy shoes and still managing to perform...who would've thought it possible hey?

I would think it’s quite obvious that people are not saying that one’s shoes are in direct correlation to how well one might be capable of performing one’s job. In a doctor-patient scenario it really shouldn’t be all about the doctor, should it.

Are you a doctor? Do you deal daily with vulnerable people who might be telling you very confidential things? Do you sometimes have to discuss gravely serious and upsetting issues and give terrible news to people? If so. I think you ought to examine yourself and ask yourself if your shoes should be screaming ‘Look at me and my quirkiness, I’m so crazy!’ or whether in fact it might be better to send a different message. it might be good to have some understanding of why a certain proportion of your patients might prefer to see some respect for the situation from you, in your attire and in how you present yourself.

In a lot of cases, style is substance. Or should be. If that makes me old-fashioned, well so be it. I still have some respect for form, protocol and professional standards.

There’s clearly quite a marked divide on this issue, though, and I’m sure OP has had enough answers to be able to weigh things up and make her decision, so no point in arguing over it.

wheelywheelynice · 16/07/2019 21:32

They look like little kids' shoes, not adult women's

Oldraver · 16/07/2019 21:32

I've had the smile face ones bookmarked for a while and intended to where them out.

I wouldn't be bothered actually but I love a gaudy shoe

Frannibananni · 16/07/2019 21:43

I saw a woman at the supermarket yesterday wearing these. I thought they looked really good in real life.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 16/07/2019 21:45

These could work ..... :)
