Bomb-proof make-up

What’s the best mascara and eyeliner that absolutely won’t budge? I need something waterproof which will survive my menopausal hot flushes, the heat and probably quite a lot of crying (funeral of a very close relative). Probably brownish eyeliner and brown-black mascara, anything around the Estée Lauder-ish price range. Thanks.

The Lancome hypnose waterproof mascara and eye liner dont budge, they are also a nuisance to take off! The Lancome bi facil eye make up remover works well with them.

MoreSlidingDoors · 29/06/2019 16:35

Lancôme = Nestle though.

Try a tube mascara. Clinique does one, so does Blinc and eyeko.

Littlemermaid1 · 29/06/2019 16:37

@MoreSlidingDoors I didnt realise that, which premium brands are most ethical/which to avoid?

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 29/06/2019 16:50

I find the IT cosmetics eyeliner doesn’t budge!

Yogurty · 29/06/2019 17:54

Thanks, will try Clinique I think - would prefer to avoid known Nestle is possible. I use an Estee Lauder DoubleWear mascara usually, which really stays put but I’ve been finding it makes my eyes a bit sore recently, and can flake in my current menopausal, teary state. Doesn’t run - I just end up with even redder eyes and looking as though someone’s grated a spider all over my face.

TheHodge - where could I buy IT make-up?

My big local Boots has a concession but online:

The No 7 in gold tube, might be called Stay Perfect, is a tubing no budge formular. I used to use Clinique Lash Power but prefer the No 7 one, and it's cheaper.

chasingseagulls · 29/06/2019 18:46

Second the Boots No 7 gold tube. I swim and do sweaty gym classes in it and it doesn't budge. Plus it comes off with soap and warm water, which is great for me as it's the way I wash my whole face, with a flannel. No extra faff.

Yogurty · 29/06/2019 19:18

Thank you everyone

Ps @yogurty I’m sorry this is for a sad occasion. Sending you a very un-MN hug.

SteelRiver · 29/06/2019 20:15

CYO Semi permanent eyeliner from Boots is the best I've ever tried. I get 4 or 5 days before I notice any flaking. Its about a fiver from Boots.

ExpletiveDelighted · 29/06/2019 20:22

I agree with the Boots Stay Perfect mascara, nothing shifts it (in fact I find it a total pain to remove).

BigButtons · 29/06/2019 20:26

I have used the stay perfect on for years and loved it. My last 2 tubes have been different though. Maybe they’ve changed the formula as I find it clumps much more and if also flakes during the day. I’m going to try a l’oreal Tubing mascara next.

Soola · 29/06/2019 20:28

Take Menopace to rid yourself of hot flushes.

winterisstillcoming · 29/06/2019 20:29

I've found the double wear to be the best as my mascara never stayed put. Are individual falsies or a tint and lift an option?

Loyaultemelie · 29/06/2019 22:37

Sorry to hear your bad news. I use Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Wateresistant Mascara. It's vegan and bomb proof. Now I don't give a shit what people eat or wear but I became vegetarian after discovering serious allergies to eating meat, fish, poultry etc. I then discovered nail polish etc effected me and the same with make up, but to cut a long story short none of my previous mascara survived proper ugly snotty tears like this.

violetbunny · 30/06/2019 02:49

I would try a tubing mascara. If you haven't used one before, once they dry they do not budge - but when you rinse with warm water the mascara will come off in little tubes. Loads of brands have them (e.g. Clinique Lash power is one), just google "tubing mascara" to see which brands make them.

For a truly budgeproof liner try Bobbi Brown gel liner. If you really prefer a pencil, the Chanel stylo yeaux waterproof ones are fabulous. You can also extend the wear by setting with a lightweight powder along the lashline - I use the Laura Mercier powder designed for undereye use.

Ostagazuzulum · 30/06/2019 07:49

Eyeko sports waterproof mascara. Absolutely doesn't budge when I swim or do aqua exercises classes. You can buy travel size for £10 so you don't waste money on a big one. Also the pencil eyeliners from Wunder are really good.

ZazieTheCat · 30/06/2019 08:05

@Littlemermaid Chantecaille is pretty ethical.

Yogurty · 30/06/2019 09:16

Thanks so much everyone. Really helpful suggestions. It’s a silly thing to be thinking about at the moment but I feel horribly washed out and in serious need of renovation. I’ll try Menopace as well.

L’Oréal Infallible eyeliner - 4 quid and it doesn't budge. It's a nice cool dark brown too.

MoreSlidingDoors · 30/06/2019 19:27

But L’Oreal = Nestle.

BigButtons · 03/07/2019 07:05

I bought some CYS eyeliner yesterday. Put it on before bed- to test- this morning it is still completely there. I have oily lids and was rubbing my eyes a lot in the night. It has not budged.
I have never come across a product that actually stays put- ever!
