Modibodi, Thinx and other period underwear

Has anyone tried any of the above? Are they any good? Do they protect you for a while? How bad is the VPL?

I am really tempted to try some but I am not sure which ones to go for, and as they are a bit pricey I would love some recommendations!

I've recently started using the cheeky wipes period pants. They feel like wearing normal underwear and I haven't had any leaks. Wash well too.

I want to try these but I can't work out the logistics- do you have to change them during the day like you would a pad? Does this mean actually changing your underwear at work/out/anywhere etc, potentially multiple times?

Thinx didn't work at all for me, not even for short periods of time with very moderate flow. They're waterproof, so nothing goes through, but they leak out the sides. Not terrible vpl I don't think.

Following as I was thinking about the cheeky wipes for DD. We’ve tried some cheap one from eBay but they were just leak proof rather than absorbant.

I have tried the cheeky wipes ones and think they are fab. Will recommend to DDs when they reach the age when they will need them. I use them with a mooncup so just wear them for a day like normal underwear and then change. They wash well and are comfortable.

Following as I’m in the market for some period pants.

Thinx are out for me as theyve drunk the kool aid.

I’ve got the Cheeky Wipes ones and I love them.

Fresh pair in the morning, another after work (early afternoon) and another for bed. I use a tampon with them at night for the first two nights and sometimes during the day but mostly not.

No leaks.

There is some vpl I suppose but that’s not generally something I think about anyway.

They do take a while to dry so you need plenty of pairs. I’ve got six pairs which is ok for me. I’ve just ordered some cheapy pairs from Aliexpress to see what they’re like but I’m not hopeful really!

I might look into Cheeky Wipes!

Do you wash them separately or can they be mixed with other clothing?

Not quite the same thing but I've just received my Floating Lotus sanitary pads today. Hate the thought of using so many disposable pads so I'm going to give them a try 🤞🏼

I have wuka ones, which are brill. No leaking overnight. Agree, they do take a long time to dry so you need a few pairs. I have 3 and will buy an extra pair every moth.

I don't like the idea of carrying dirty undies with me, so when I'm at work, So I wear regular Sanpro alongside my wuka undies and when its time to change, I just remove my regular sanpro and go back to the waka undies. I only used 3 pads during my last period.

I use modibodi... I have heavy periods (copper coil) so I use a mooncup and I wear the pants mainly to prevent embarrassment if my mooncup leaks and they've never let me down.

My period can be irregular so I wear them most of the time anyway. I actually love them and feel they've made a very positive difference to my life.

I plan on buying them for my daughters in the future to supplement whatever they choose to use.

I've never felt the need to change mine during the day but most of my period goes in the mooncup. there are different "flow" pants and I wear the light/moderate ones.

I have six pairs of the Cheeky Wipes ones (three of the lace top and three of the sporty ones) and they're fantastic - very comfy and no leaks (I have heavy to average flow and use the pants pretty much alone now). I tend to wear looser trousers and dresses during so don't have to worry too much about VPL but you certainly don't get any more VPL than you would with a pair of regular seamed pants.

The only thing I would say is that the "coverage" for the lace top ones is better at the front than the sporty ones.

Does anyone find they are a bit sweaty? Waterproof knickers, just don't sound very comfortable.

They’re less sweaty than a pad I find. They’re not waterproof in a plasticy way - it’s some sort of witchcraft.

They need to be rinsed before washing (I put them in the machine separately when I’ve got several pairs and rinse them on a short cold cycle) but then go in with a normal load. Mine say to wash cold but I can’t get my head round that tbh so just do them at 30.

Mine are the lace topped ones from Cheeky Wipes.

Do they smell?

I hate the idea of ‘sitting’ in my own blood, which is why I won’t use pads. I really don’t like what sanitary products are doing to the environment though. If they felt, looked and smelled fresh I’d give them a go!

Right, I have taken the plunge. I have ordered 2 pairs of the Cheeky Wipes ones (one of each style) and one pair of the Modibodi seamless ones. My period isn't due for a while but I will report back!

No smell at all. I thought periods were smelly and dirty and I always felt stinky and disgusting. Turns out it was the sanpro that was making me smell and period blood is no different to normal blood with no odour at all. Who knew?!

Agree there's no smell. they aren't waterproof, they're absorbent so they suck everything in. They feel completely dry. It's nothing like wearing a pad at all, they feel like normal pants!

I have tried Cheeky Wipes, Modibodi and Flux and they're all really good! I can't believe how comfortable they are, and I have had no issues with leaks. Total game changer !

I have been wearing the Modibodi seamless bikinis on days and there is no VPL. The other ones are less discreet but I just wear them under midi A-line skirts.

I am now eyeing up the Thinx workout shorts (but the price is holding me back!)

I’m hesitant to ask this because of the amount of hairy handed weirdos on here these days but when you’ve, erm, finished with a pair do you put them in cold water to soak, or put them straight into wash, or something else?

I’m happy with the concept of the usage side of them but it’s the needing to be washed ones and washing them. Disclaimer: I’m not any sort of germ phobe and I don’t wash my towels 3 times a day 😂.

@gingersausage you just rinse under cold water then put in a cold wash. I usually bung them in with my gym stuff and use Halo sports wash which is antibacterial.

Then just hair dry. The Modibodi ones dry quite quickly, the others take a bit longer

I use cheeky wipes ones and have six pairs. I use them with a moon cup but for first and last day spotting without. I love them though the first three are starting to fray a bit now. I soak in a cold sink and then wash on cold and hang on a octopus thing in my utility room. They aren’t “waterproof” like a nappy cover, just absorbent. Best bit is the absorbent bit goes right up the back so when you lie down it doesn’t leak either. And whilst a teeny bit more bulky than normal pants they are so comfy compared to a washable sanitary pad which feels v uncomfortable.

@gingersausage sometimes I wait til the end of a period to wash now I have lots of pairs other times I wash them as I go. Soaking in a sink first helps as the blood comes out in the water then they go in the machine with other (dark) things that need washing on 30c

Slight hijack here, but do you think would these pants work for light incontinence?
Maybe TMI but I generally use one Tena lLady light per day so it's not a massive amount of liquid. I've tried incintinece specific pads which were basically layers of fleece with a waterproof backing. I found them very bulky and hated feeling damp all day, plus if you are not vertical then everything seems to run off the surface instead of soaking in!
