ElspethFlashman - I dread the Christening outfit cos I think she's going to try for that American Preppy Never Trying too Hard Laid Back thing

Can you link pic/s to what sort of look you mean?
(i'm not asking to catch you out, i'm genuinely interested but don't know x)

ajandjjmum · 05/07/2019 15:06

Love the colour of Letizia's outfit.

I know she is a partner in a dress making business - but I thought she was still a member of Royal Household Curly, and perhaps wrongly assumed she is a full-time employee of HM. They're supposed to be very close.

royal babies tend to be christened early becoz they have to wear that replica outfit - and they won't fit it if left for too much longer that’s such a cute image, squidgy little babies!!! Esp George, he was a chunker :)

Easy for MM to channel Jackie O, but then does make you realise how old fashioned and twee it all is.

Don’t get me started on that silly 1940s pram! I mean they’re great but why have only only at C’s christening? Always thought maybe they were worried about her being sick on their gowns...

It’s actually quite hard finding outfits you’d recommend to M&K. But then a lot is personally made - eg McQ stuff, so you could see a general look and make the label adjust it

GlamGiraffe · 05/07/2019 15:09

@Curly I can't help wondering what PC is looking at in that photo. It looks like there's something very strange in his view!

"What d'you mean Camilla's drunk all the bally whisky?"

Eugenie was christened when she was about 9 months old because Andrew was at sea. I.think.they just left the back.open and wrapped her in.a shawl

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/07/2019 15:19

@ajandjjmum
I think Angela Kelly is both. Queens dresser and has her own dressmaking business

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/07/2019 15:43

I think it's a given that Meghan will wear Givenchy for the christening, given that CWK is her go-to designer for big occasions.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/07/2019 16:15

I was thinking that too.
However a lovely floral oscar de la rental, a bit like Madeleine of Sweden wears for her children's christenings would be lovely

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/07/2019 16:42

I spotted this magazine in the cafe I'm in. For a moment I thought it was Meghan on the cover!

(I don't for a moment think it's a coincidence!)

Hilarious. I hope Meghans got better taste in bikinis than that though 😂

MrsGrindah · 05/07/2019 17:04

One of my few claims to fame is that I once tried on a jacket that had belonged to Diana. She had very long arms so I looked ridiculous but it gave me such a thrill.

JaimeBronde · 05/07/2019 17:30

Angela Kelly is also a good friend & confidante to HM.
She is extremely discreet.

Going back to the 80s fashions, years ago I worked for Next & was looking through all the old Next Directories that were kept in the office.
The clothes were so frumpy, frilly & polyester!

thatone · 05/07/2019 17:31

Very strong resemblance to MM Queen , can you imagine if it was her....the bump holding adds to the effect.

mathanxiety · 05/07/2019 17:35

Having the opinion isn't the problem, AnneEyhtMeyer.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/07/2019 17:38

I've been out all day so sorry to drag this up yet again but I stand by my comments about her looking an absolute fright because she did. I was talking about her hair and clothes and referenced her bad choice of shoes, the cut and fit of her jacket and the wearing of jeans. How on earth is this any different from the criticism given to KM's hair, botox, and supposedly old-fashioned frumpy clothes?

I'd say the comments about botox are far far more not in the spirit than an opinion on someone's clothes.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/07/2019 17:39

@QueenOfTheAndals

What is this even supposed to mean?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/07/2019 17:41

Ignore the last post I selected the wrong poster.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/07/2019 17:41

@mathanxiety what is that even supposed to mean?

AppleKatie · 05/07/2019 17:42

Your tone was quite argumentative though. And your very strong negative opinion out of step with most posters. The two things combined made it seem as though you were just having a go for the sake of it tbh.

It’s also you doing the comparing to DoC most people on this thread don’t seem to subscribe to the ‘love/hate pick a side’ narrative.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/07/2019 17:44

@AppleKatie out of step because I don't like MM's clothing on one occasion? Or because I don't discuss KM's cosmetic procedures?

I don't like any of them actually, I'd abolish the whole monarchy.

hopeishere · 05/07/2019 17:45

If I was one of Meghan's friends I d have felt a bit silly I was all dressed up and she was in jeans.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/07/2019 17:45

@JaimeBronde I'm not sure anything has changed re Next. I've never understood the popularity of their sales except for children's clothes!

OP posts:
AppleKatie · 05/07/2019 17:47

I just meant out of step with that section of conversation about that particular outfit yes. I think (and I’m honestly not trying to start a row) you’re doing it again, equating a conversation about one outfit with an opinion on much wider issues.
