William and Harry have been allowed to be ‘kids’ (for want of a better expression) for so much longer than their parents who were pushed further into the spotlight and expected to be fully fledged working royals much much earlier.

There is a sense that the two of them and their families are just getting started that wasn’t there at this point with the generation before.

It will be interesting to see who Archie's godparents will be, but whoever they are, presumably they will be CofE? Amal is believed to be Druze, Serena is a Jehovah's Witness and Oprah is a Baptist so I doubt they will make the cut.
Perhaps a Spencer cousin, or the young Duke of Westminster, or John Major?

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/07/2019 09:49

Yes but Charles is the PoW and I think it's different for the grandchildren of the monarch vs the children. If George VI had lived longer then I imagine Charles would've taken on royal duties later on in life.

Isn't the Duke of Westminster one of the Cambridge children's godparents? He must be the most eligible bachelor in London!

I think a different denomination of Christian is probably ok. Jehovah Witness etc more problematic from a godparent perspective.

That’s true re the grandchild/POW distinction and makes a lot of sense 🤦‍♀️

Since it's Canada Day...

Just been back through some of the photos from the two tours that W&K did to Canada. This is one of my favourite dresses (along with the Jenny Packham dress and Alexander McQueen gown from 2011).

I’m always shocked all over again when I think about how young Diana was when she died (younger than Kate or Meghan) and how it stopped us all in our tracks that day. I’ll never forget where I was.

I agree; the only thing comparable was 9/11
Also, it was pre internet, so I was getting phone calls at 7am with people telling me. I remember calling my mum saying Diana died; and she said "Diana who?" As the idea of the Diana being dead was incomprehensible.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/07/2019 11:48

I remember hearing she was injured and Dodi had been killed and then it came through on the radio that she'd died too. She would've only been 58 today, no age at all really.

Anyone want to work for Anne?

I remember walking into the kitchen and my mum saying “Diana’s been killed” and I said “on purpose”. I remember being glued to the telly, it was just incredible to watch unfold.

Romaine I love that dress of Kate’s, it’s one of my favourites of hers, thanks for posting it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/07/2019 13:48

I think Kate has that dress in black too?

It seems Ingrid of Norway is shaping into another Kate/Mary/Marie clone! SWF Jr?? Grin

And there's been a royal wedding of sorts as the great-great-grandson of Wilhelm II got married in Italy (DM link). Not sure about the bride's dress - there's something odd about the construction of the bodice - but the bridesmaids' dresses are cute and a perfect choice for the hot weather.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 01/07/2019 14:03

Heard an advert on the radio of the DM or Sunday mail having an article on Diana’s ‘new dawn’ by people who knew her best. I thought how hard it must be for W&H to continually have their mother exploited by lazy journalists.

Kate’s at Hampton Court in another slightly floaty dress (and the love-them-or-hate-them espadrilles

Blush
UrsulaPandress · 01/07/2019 14:43

Aw bless Kate seemed to do a half bobbing curtsy to the second woman with whom she shook hands.

frugalkitty · 01/07/2019 14:49

I like the wedding dress in that link. It does seem ridiculous to keep the titles etc going once the monarchy has been axed though. A bit like the Greeks. I wonder at which point down the line they stop using the king/prince/princess titles.

Stravapalava · 01/07/2019 14:54

Loving the Prussian wedding.

The bridesmaids look so sweet with their little flower crowns. I love the hydrangea bouquet as well. The bride's dress looks like it's too big on the chest, the pads have nothing to pad out, if that makes sense?

Sophie, Princess of Prussia looks elegant in her pink dress - just the kind of thing I'd wear. Also note the lady in the Kate style headband in the picture of the bride and her father!

Alwayscheerful · 01/07/2019 15:02

@QueenOfTheAndals I think perhaps the built in cups/bodice part is sitting too high on her chest. The wedding dress is lovely but the fit is not good.

Laiste · 01/07/2019 15:07

I think Kate's espadrilles are her comfy shoes.

YorkshireIndie · 01/07/2019 15:12

I agree about the wedding dress. Her breast seem too high

I have a love hate relationship with Kate's shoe choice today. Think they would be better without the strap

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/07/2019 15:17

Such loves bridesmaid dresses but the fit of the bride's dress was very off.

Spudlet · 01/07/2019 15:24

The sub heads on the article said they have a baby daughter, so depending on on the age of the child, perhaps it’s a case of her shape changing rapidly as she recovers from the birth.

The bridesmaids look gorgeous - such cute little dresses and shoes! And the bride’s hair and makeup looked lovely.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/07/2019 15:26

Kate's dress today is by Sandro. It isn't outrageously expensive, although I baulk at spending that much on polyester!
