I need a new hairdryer (with diffuser - curly hair)

AliceRR · 22/06/2019 21:21

Just that. I have naturally curly hair which I wear mostly curly these days. If I blow dry it then I use a diffuser. The hair dryer I was using was a fairly cheap one but has just broken.

When having my hair straight I use the Remington keratin and protect (something like that) styler which is one of those big brushes which spins and styles as it dries - highly recommend that btw - it’s great for volume and blow dries my curly hair smooth in a way only a professional could.

So I need a hairdryer for when I have my hair curly. I’ve thought about the Dyson but only really willing to pay that amount if it’s worth it and does something well over and above what another dryer does. GHD? Or is that just like any “normal” dryer? Or I could just pay £30 and get something that does the job like the one I was using before.

🤷🏻‍♀️

TIA

I love my Parlux .

AliceRR · 22/06/2019 21:40

I love my Parlux

What do you love about it? Does it do anything that a cheaper hairdryer doesn’t?

I’m not a fan of Parlux. I had a lovely Toni & Guy one years ago that I left in a hotel and it ‘disappeared’. It wasn’t expensive but it was way better than my parlux which I gave away.

Tried a ghd one and gave that away, and was using a lovely little Diva one but that got nabbed as well. (Two stepdaughters and a daughter like to have my cast offs!)

I bought a Dyson and whilst I bloody hate the man the hair dryer is excellent.

So easy to use. I bought it from qvc as they let you use it for a month and then you can get a full refund if you don’t like it.

Puttingofftheironing · 22/06/2019 22:01

I had a parlux that was fab, but i got a dyson for christmas a few years ago. Game changer for my very curly hair. Its cut down on the product I need to keep the fizz at bay and dries my hair in super quick time (evwn when blow drying it straight)

AliceRR · 22/06/2019 22:07

Hmmm need to research Parlux more as I don’t know anything about it.

I’m so tempted by the Dyson especially since my hairdryer has broken (seems like the perfect opportunity to treat myself!) but I would want it to do something special to be worth it. Not sure I can justify the spend but QVC money back guarantee is a good idea and does an easy pay of £56 a month which is basically free and DH might not notice 😂

I got some money back as I bought the offer with the stand and then I sold the stand making the cost of the supersonic less than if I’d bought it on its own!

AliceRR · 22/06/2019 23:22

That’s the one i looked at @soola but I didn’t even realise the stand didn’t come with all of them. Just saw the hairdryer on its own is £299.99 🤔

I've got a Gama diffuser and it's a dream! My hair dryer is just a bog standard jobby.
Cuts drying time in half. I have got long, thick 2c wavy/curly hair.

YesQueen · 22/06/2019 23:29

I use a bog standard hair dryer with gama diffuser but my hair takes so long to dry
I caved and got the dyson from QVC, should be here Monday Grin

AliceRR · 22/06/2019 23:33

Will look up gama diffuser too

I feel like I’m out of touch on the hair appliance front!

@YesQueen - exciting! If you don’t mind let us know how you find it.

AliceRR

You can get £50 for the stand which then makes the price of the hairdryer a lot cheaper than if you buy it on its own.

YesQueen · 23/06/2019 00:30

@AliceRR of course! I'll be washing my hair the second it arrives Grin

AliceRR · 23/06/2019 11:26

That’s not bad @Soola

I don’t blame you @YesQueen

I was watching the videos on qvc and I was about 95% convinced to buy it. I have a £100 John Lewis voucher so thought about buying it from there.

BUT then remembered the air wrap, which I think is a hair dryer as well, and wondered whether I should just get that?! I really like the big round brush styler I’ve got and the air wrap probably does better but faster and with less damage but then that’s even more expensive.

I think I’ve opened a can of worms here...

No the airwrap doesn’t have a diffuser obviously so I’ve strayed too far(!) and think I’ll order the dyson dryer. Hoping I might be able to get a good straight / voluminous blow dry with it too...

Thanks everyone for the replies

I LOVED my Dyson but when it broke after less than a year it wasnt fixable. I swapped it for a GHD Air (and lots of other lovely things due to price difference!) and its great, lasting well and good diffuser.

321zerobaby · 23/06/2019 12:49

I have a parlux and diffuser, as well as a Dyson and diffuser. There is no comparison, Dyson diffuser is fantastic and gives much better results.

AliceRR · 23/06/2019 12:58

That’s v helpful @321zerobaby if you have both and can compare

Is ghd as good as your Dyson was @Sparklyring ? Is there much of a difference?

There’a 97% chance I’ll buy the dyson dryer in John Lewis when I go shopping on Thursday 😬

I recently bought the Remington Air3D - it’s clearly trying to be like the Dyson, but it’s a lot cheaper and the diffuser is much better than my previous Babyliss was! It’s verly light too, so no aching elbows after use (I have very thick hair so drying always takes a while)

Baxdream · 23/06/2019 18:20

I bought a ghd air a couple of years ago. Not worth it in my opinion!
I have the dyson airwrap which I absolutely love. Although I don't have the hairdryer if it's anything like the airwrap it'll be amazing!

YesQueen · 24/06/2019 09:00

Apparently mine is coming between 10.30-11.30 so I may wash my hair tonight to try it!

YesQueen · 24/06/2019 14:51

@AliceRR the dyson is here! It's v light and I'm mid drying my hair. Doesn't blow hair about like a normal dryer

AliceRR · 24/06/2019 15:02

I would go for the air wrap if I didn’t need a diffuser

What do you think @YesQueen? Is it worth it? Do you love it? It probably takes some getting used to, to be fair. I’m still thinking I’ll probably buy it on Thursday

OP posts:
YesQueen · 24/06/2019 15:28

I've just finished drying - had a break to open some parcels and I would say my hair is 90% dry. Which is insane as mine can take an hour with a normal dryer/diffuser and over 24hrs to air dry
I love it so far. I can diffuse without switching it off as it doesn't blow sections about and it's v intuitive to use
