Anyone else an Autumn in their colour analysis?

happytobemrsg · 20/06/2019 14:59

I received my colour analysis today & while I haven’t read it properly yet I saw that I’m an autumn!

I must be seriously late to the colour analysis game because all the Mumsnet autumn threads are super old 🙈 so hoping we can start a new one!

Would love to hear tips from fellow Autumns!

I'm also a navy autumn who likes neutrals so tend to stick to navy, cream, all shades of brown and khaki. Red looks horrible on me but I look great in creamy nude/blush next to my face.

Warm metallics are great for shoes and going out tops - gold, rose gold and bronze.

happytobemrsg · 21/06/2019 08:14

@TixieLix, @autumnpie, @pinegreen See I NEVER wear navy, I even avoided blue jeans where possible (funnily enough my two favourite pairs of jeans are khaki & a rich plumb). Does that mean navy should be my new black? I know I should swap black (my dark neutral) & greys (my light neutral) with different colours but I’m just never drawn to blue (not that black or grey do anything for my complexion- I see that now). Can my neutrals be khaki, burgundy & cream? Then like @pinegreen suggested, buy accent clothes in teal, mustard, terracotta?

Also, what about shoes?? My boots have always been black (sandals are more adventurous- before my analysis I had been eyeing some mustard ones - who knew!). Do you all still wear black shoes?? I hate chocolate brown but can wear tan I guess?

Thanks @happytobemrsg will give them a look!

isabellerossignol · 21/06/2019 08:28

I'm autumn and the past couple of years have been great in the shops, all that burgundy, mustard yellow, navy etc. Then for years there will be nothing but blues and I'll be completely stuck.

autumnpie · 21/06/2019 08:39

I never wore navy before my colour analysis (I used House of Colour after reading recommendations on the Style and Beauty boards).

I now have a bit of navy for work. Including navy shoes. Apparently my ideal navy is Marine Navy but it's virtually impossible to find. I think the navy does look better on me but I think I always avoided it because my school uniform used to be navy.

I do still wear my black business suit and my black shoes. I have always worn scarves though because I always seem to be cold so I just make sure they are in flattering colours.

Outside work I had already moved away from black shoes mostly but I think if you have shoes you like in black then stick with them for the moment but consider the colour if you want when you next replace them.

Potatopia · 21/06/2019 08:47

You don't have to wear any of "your" colours if you don't like them!
Navy isn't good on me so I don't often wear it, but I generally think that the further away it is from your face, the less important it is. So I have blue jeans/blue trousers/skirts that look good with yellow/orange tops, but I wouldn't buy a navy top. I've kept black shoes but not bought any new ones, and I don't think they look terrible with browns/greens etc.

Also, top tip, don't throw out all your black clothes as you'll inevitably need some in the future (e.g. funeral, concert, hen party with dress code !)

LagoDiComo · 21/06/2019 09:05

Navy is a complicated colour as some are more warm than others. I love navy and wear it loads but sometimes they are too black or too purple. I guess the same applies to all colours - red is another one where it can veer to a nice warm tomato red, to much more of a cherry red.

Sigh81 · 21/06/2019 10:32

I'm an Autumn. I love my colour palette: a leaf autumn. I too have basic colours (khaki/olive, navy, cream and tan/rust) but also a lot of peacock/teal (one of my best colours) and mustard/old lime (also some of my best colours). Jewellery is gold/brass and accessories are tan.

pinegreen · 21/06/2019 10:33

I agree with LagodiComo. As others have mentioned, marine navy is tough to find but I have no issue wearing trousers in a lighter navy, just not very dark navy. Same with red - I really suit tomato red (which is generally very easy to find) but I’ll skip anything too blue based as it’s not the right red.

For me it’s getting a bunch of things to work together which is why my staples (trousers etc) are navy, olive, tan and cream. I make sure whatever I wear near my face is a really good colour. It’s a bit “paint by numbers” but it saves me money, time and angst!

happytobemrsg plum isn’t an autumn colour. Initially I was surprised as I’d previously thought I looked amazing in burgundy but over time I’ve realised that it doesn’t suit me as well as I thought it did, and that maroon/rust is much better.

LazyLemur · 21/06/2019 12:56

Im a definite autumn. Every single part of me is a very yellow golden brown. I wear a lot of black actually but the trick is to accessorise well with your autumn colours. I'll accessorise with red/mustard/teal/gold etc.

I avoid black with prints in white or grey because as soon as I put those on I look unwell.

Swap your light greys for rich creams or warm taupes?

SegregateMumBev · 21/06/2019 18:33

I recently bought a nice pair of navy flats in M&S.

happytobemrsg · 21/06/2019 21:23

I’m sticking to accessories now but I can’t wait to start shopping after I’ve hopefully lost the baby weight. I bought another headband today. They didn’t have the lovely teal one I showed further up the thread I might order that one but I did choose a lovely mustard/cream/black leopard print one (dominant colour is mustard). Thought it would look nice with khaki jeans & a cream top

Saw this yesterday - what do you think? Does it count as an autumn colour? What would you wear it with?

I'm an autumn but can't wear yellows/oranges, so I'm in the "deep autumn" category.

I wear charcoal/navy as my neutrals, khaki, deep reds, some shades of brown, cream, purple.

I occasionally still wear black/white, but sadly know that it doesn't suit me as much as I'd like it to.

I've switched my shoe colours to deliberately non-matching colours with trousers/dresses etc - so I wear red/tan shoes that I can wear with any of my neutrals.

I buy bags that go with my shoes, as a general rule. I have a few crossbody bags from here https://miatui.com/collections/across-body-bags

I’ve created a Pinterest board for my Autumn inspiration in case any fellow Autumns were interested!!

I think the scarf looks a bit hard for an autumn. I have a protected species mac in the burnt horizon red. I realise that burgundy is a bit dead on me. I use a warm grey or some khaki and taupes as my neutrals. I don’t suit many creams. I’m better with deeper colours. I agree navy which isn’t too dark is hard to find but warm mine up with a scarf.

I also use Pinterest as an inspiration and agree Kettlewell colours are useful as a benchmark to start with. I only wear yellow as an accent for shoes and bags.

happytobemrsg · 25/06/2019 08:33

My stylist said I could embrace leopard print (Yay!) & ive fallen for this bag. But it ha lots of black on it too. Is that ok?

Deeper colours work better for me too @Oddbutnotodd. So you would recommend the horizon red over the other two colours?

If you mean rather than the sandstone fawn or burgundy - yes. I’ve had several people complement me. I also have the city walker in dark olive green which is another good colour.

I saw someone actually wearing that Oliver Bonas scarf today. But she's a real winter colour person - jet black hair etc. She wore it with a black dress. So I don't think it would work with other autumn colours.

happytobemrsg · 26/06/2019 18:35

I just saw a lady wearing a forest green dress, mustard bag & tan sandals. It looked fabulous & not a hint of black in sight! It gives me hope!

I bought this necklace today from Accessorize- I’ve been eyeing it online for a while. Only £5 but really pretty IRL.

I think you’re right @NottonightJosepheen. I do want to eventually move away from black & buying a £225 bag is not the most sensible idea.

I thought teal was a good colour for autumns @SegregateMumBev. Or is it only some shades?

Love the necklace, good find!

Teal on its own works well, but the predominant colours in that scarf are cobalt blue and black.
