Bridesmaid dress help please

I bought my niece a bridesmaid/flower girl dress and when she tried it on, she doesn't like the waist - see purple dress in pics. It turns out that she doesn't like dresses with a proper waist/bodice attached to skirt but I didn't know that.

I need a dress like this pink one or similar shape, or empire line or a shift dress which is nice enough to be a bm/fg dress in the attached colours.

I found a nice white on in H&M but it's quite plain. I found one in M&S in lilac with sequins but its a bit expensive at this stage. It needs to be as cheap as possible unfortunately - I'm talking preferably no more than 20 quid - we have about 3 weeks to go and the budget is blown.

Does anyone know where I can get a suitable dress please?

The purple dress is just an example, not the dress I got her.

How old is she?
Surely for the sake of a day she would wear what you had bought her?

She's 5. Sorry I forgot to add that bit. She's a bit sensory-ie in that she is a really fussy eater down to textures and I think my sister had a bit of a mission to find suitable school dresses for her, and she won't wear other dresses, like dress up stuff etc, that have a seam across the waist.

I could try sewing something on the inside to cover the seam (she can't wear a vest as there's a cut out on the back) but I'm not the best at sewing so didn't really want to bother with that if I didn't have to. I don't mind if she gets changed after the formal pics but I'd prefer her to have something she's comfortable wearing if I can find it.

It's one day, I know you're thinking about her comfort but if I was in her position I would rather wear a decent dress that was perfect that I wasn't keen on than a last minute cheap replacement.
Can you rope her parents in to help you?

Also how old is she? If she's a teenager or an adult, could you explain the situation, there's no budget left to change the dress? Hopefully she will be of the understanding sort

GlamGiraffe · 18/06/2019 12:00

I'd say she should wear it for the cereminythen can change on to what she wants to wear of her own after the pics. Why didnt she ssy she hated it? How old? What colouf does it nedd to be? (The purple? If so youll be stuck.)

WhiteLightTrainWreck · 18/06/2019 12:02

Oh sorry, cross post.

Would it be possible to take it to a seamstress, have the seams taken out so its not as fitted?

candycane222 · 18/06/2019 12:07

Have a look on eBay

Eliza9919 · 18/06/2019 12:10

@candycane222 I've been looking and can't find anything much without a seam across the middle.

Eliza9919 · 18/06/2019 12:10

@WhiteLightTrainWreck You can't do that because the skirt is sewn to the bodice and its that seam that she doesn't like.

@GlamGiraffe She's 5. This is what I'm thinking. I'll ask her to wear it for the ceremony and pics then she can change. All the kids will prob change anyway as there are 2 bouncy castles at the reception as well as grass to run and play on, as well as other stuff. The colors are the ones in the bouquet in the op (that's not my bouquet btw).

Next do a few “a-line” tunic type dresses, couple on e-bay at the mo....maybe add a ribbon belt in one of your colours?

Eliza9919 · 18/06/2019 12:44

That's perfect @hellsbells99, but that one will be too big :( she's very small.

I just agreed with my sister that she'll wear the dress for the ceremony & pics and then get changed in to whatever she likes after, which she'd do anyway as there are bouncy castles etc.

This is empire line, not very bridesmaid, more boho, but very sweet
