Clearing out my wardrobe - keep or dispose

DamnItChloe2 · 17/06/2019 08:16

As I wait for the arrival of my first born I thought I would clear out my wardrobe.

I’m very much a buy once wear once owner and I would like to change this moving forward.

Anyone want to vote on my clothes on a keep or throw basis? If left to my own devises I would keep everything so be as harsh as possible Grin

I’m 5’11 and a size 10-12 for idea of body shape, I’m as white as Casper with red hair.

First 3 items - keep or dispose?

Dispose. According to your description these shapes, types and colours don't suit you. What's your age?

Deliheaven · 17/06/2019 08:25

Keep.
If you’re trying to stop wearing thing just once then you have to keep things to wear them again!

Lisette1940 · 17/06/2019 08:26

I did a wardrobe clear out yesterday due to changing body shape.

I'd get rid of the first and keep the last two.

womaninthedark · 17/06/2019 08:28

Keep 1 and 2. Get rid of three. Sell it.

DamnItChloe2 · 17/06/2019 08:35

I’m 30.

Thanks for the votes so far. I will sit down and do some proper analysis of them.

I won’t be selling anything because of the effort so to the charity shop.

I am with Deliheaven... you will only change your behaviour by changing your behaviour!!

But it depends on how many items you have in your wardrobe and what your lifestyle is like.

Your body shape may well change as a result of pregnancy but it also could go back to being the same.

Do you love the items you have posted? When you see them, do they bring happy memories? Can you see yourself wearing them again?

The third question is more difficult as according to your description of yourself, you would not wear things again anyway so this brings you to the next question... How do you go about changing that behaviour?

Decide what types of occasions you are likely to wear each of these items and think about whether they are suitable to be worn again. Of the three... I would keep the middle one.

ffs74 · 17/06/2019 08:38

I'll take the middle dress in the second set of pictures Grin

moonpiggle · 17/06/2019 08:40

Keep everything apart from that mint green floral dress on 2nd lot of pics. The red dress is beaut x

Keep the first three, dispose of the second three.

Ellapaella · 17/06/2019 08:52

I love the red lacy dress and would buy it from you! I'm a 10-12 also. If you do decide to stick it on eBay give me a heads up!

DamnItChloe2 · 17/06/2019 08:56

Thanks again!

I suppose those questions are very fitting, my main way of stopping my behaviour is clearing my wardrobe to a reasonable size - I have a ridiculous amount of clothes - and then stopping myself buying stuff. I hope being on Mat Leave will help with that.

Haha! The mint green dress is actually very nice on I promise Blush

Do you really only wear once???
Keep what you love, I get into fits of decluttering, then have regrets. Be sure.
I like giving to friends so I can still see my lovely things!

Gingerkittykat · 17/06/2019 09:07

Keep first 3, and second of second three and third of third three.

NavyBerry · 17/06/2019 09:29

Wow that's getting more difficult. You need to ask yourself do you really look amazing in this? Or is it Okish. The last three are very nice. The second row is so-so. It's hard to tell really not knowing about the figure. Flat chested or not? Curvy hips or not? You will have to judge 😀

Verite1 · 17/06/2019 09:35

Out of first tranche, i would keep, keep, dispose.
Next tranche - dispose, dispose, dispose. Second one is ok but I’m being ruthless.
Third tranche - dispose, dispose, keep.

IdblowJonSnow · 17/06/2019 09:40

I like everything except the pink shorts and green/blue dress.
But would really need to see them on you to know.
Bear in mind your shape will change again. Unless you actually don't like them, stick them in storage?

LaPampa · 17/06/2019 09:41

I’d keep the silver dress and get rid of the rest however if you think you’ll be going to lots of formal events where you’ll rewear stuff then keep them. If you won’t, get rid. I can barely fit into any formal stuff I had PRE babies unless it was loose/ stretchy. Also somewhere along the way my style shifted and I didn’t want to be wearing all the pre baby going out stuff.

If previously you only wore things once I find it unlikely you’ll wear any of this again. I’d clear it out onto eBay (if you’ve a couple of weeks til due date etc) and then start again with stuff that fits your new body shape / life - so more casual stuff you can wear over and over again.

DamnItChloe2 · 17/06/2019 09:42

I’m learning I like florals.

I’m very long and slim, but with a good set of hips on me - I’m trying to think of a similar person but it’s hard Blush

And yes, I really do buy things for events wear once and then stick away. I’m trying to introduce more items to my day to day wardrobe rather than Jeans and Tee

I would donate all to a charity shop - a lot of those aren’t really dresses that you can rewear over and over again, because they are so bold/unique. More of a one hit wonder dress. Don’t like the colour/style of the suit.

The exceptions:

  • black playsuit, if flattering could be an easy item to wear in summer, on holiday, nights out etc.
  • the navy floral dress: don’t love the print but it seems like it would pair well with trainers, could be something you can throw on to run errands etc.
superram · 17/06/2019 09:43

This is not a good time to be clearing your wardrobe. Wait until you baby is 9 months then try it all on. If you are on maternity leave and definitely won’t wear this again I do think you should try and sell. I know it’s time consuming but you could put the money in a child isa for your baby.

beanaseireann · 17/06/2019 09:52

You have lovely clothes OP
I'd keep them all.

Not helpful I know. Smile

DamnItChloe2 · 17/06/2019 10:02

Thanks you bean

It’s very hard finding dresses online that you purchased a while ago Grin

I have a extremely similar dress to the mint green one, although mine is more a 1950's shape. I love wearing it in the evening on holidays! I'm 37 btw...
