Help me buy a new waterproof coat with hood

Can anyone please help me buy a coat for this ridiculous weather. Something waterproof with a hood, upto or below knees. Something trendy, without too many pockets and shoulder flaps. I have a big chest.

No sea salt recommendations please. I bought the long sea salt coat in blue, and found that the grandmother (70’s) of a child in my youngest child’s class was wearing it too. I’m 36. So I’ve folded it up and tucked it away at the back of my wardrobe.

Believe it or not, I can sympathise over your Seasalt coat. I bought one too, thinking it would be so useful that I'd learn to love it but I don't. It does everything I wanted it too but I just don't feel great in it.

So one more suggestion - Ebay. They're well regarded so I imagine it would sell and you could put the money towards another one.

However I think the point, as Ella says, is that women of all ages - even my son's friends - prefer not to get wet in the rain so this is something you're going to face whatever brand you buy.

Sorry, OP, this is ridiculous. Or else very insecure.

You liked the coat, they are good quality, and worn by many, many young people. It's just that sometimes, God Forbid, a woman in her 70s might also choose that coat too.

It might happen to the next item of clothing you wear.

Oddbutnotodd · 19/05/2019 17:18

I have two Protected Species coats. One mac and a shorter one. I’m in my 50s. My teenage daughter has a Seasalt long mac. Women of all ages want to be stylish and dry. Just wear the one you already have!

Yes I am insecure, if you read the whole thread you’d know. I just want to feel confident going out.

Thanks for all the suggestions I’m looking through.

You’re just finding things to get upset about

No,just pointing out that your ageist comments. Think how upset you are about 'mum boots' and now think about what you are saying about older women.

User07 · 19/05/2019 18:37

Ive suggested recently fat face snowdon. It was in their sale...not sure if its still available.
You could sell your seasalt coat on ebay to fund a new one.

Cobblersandhogwash · 19/05/2019 18:41

Couldn't the grandmother wearing the sea salt coat be really stylish?

Age isn't really an indicator of style.

Needhelpfeelingcold · 19/05/2019 18:46

I love that fat face one, but it doesn’t have a lining, but that is the exact cut I’m looking for.

OP posts:
Alsohuman · 19/05/2019 18:47

Of course not because nobody old enough to be a granny could possibly be stylish. This ageist shit really makes me cross.

Needhelpfeelingcold · 19/05/2019 18:48

Yes she’s very stylish, I don’t want to cramp her style.

OP posts:
Needhelpfeelingcold · 19/05/2019 18:50

Oh go away Alsohuman. Act your age.

OP posts:
ShirleyAvenue · 19/05/2019 18:52

Maybe she'd just borrowed it from her daughter?

Rooftree · 19/05/2019 18:54

It’s a valid point though Op. I’m nowhere near being a grandma but the thought that someone might put their jacket in the charity because they saw me wearing it “at my age” is actually quite upsetting.
So whilst I understand that you’ve been upset about comments people have made about you, you therefore need to think about what you’re saying about others.

Jacksback · 19/05/2019 19:03

Matalan , a rubberised coat with hood , plain pockets , zip and press studs , I got the grey very pale , and I’ve seen loads of 20/30 yr olds wearing them or similar
Oh £30 too
Obviously not sea salt ( really £200 quid 😮) but does the job

Alsohuman · 19/05/2019 19:14

OK, just pass me my Zimmer frame and l'll shuffle off back to my crochet.

Not just ageist but breathtakingly rude too.

SwimmingintheDeepBLUESea · 19/05/2019 19:44

As someone in her 20's I'd say unless you buy a very cheap waterproof coat from somewhere aimed at a teen-young adult market, like newlook, there will be all ages wearing the same coat and you will come across someone older wearing it regardless of what coat you buy. Raincoats aren't fashionable items.

Your colleagues are vile tbh and you shouldn't let such petty, insecure bitches make you as insecure as them.

Needhelpfeelingcold · 19/05/2019 19:46

Not just ageist but breathtakingly rude too.

Aren’t you just.

OP posts:
Rooftree · 19/05/2019 19:47

Exactly swimming and that’s what I said upthread.
Women of all ages will wear the fat face one, the sea salt one, the mountain warehouse one etc etc etc. Maybe much younger women won’t wear the protected species one but that may be about disposable come in 20’s etc

Rooftree · 19/05/2019 19:48

Op back off.
alsohuman wasn’t being rude but you really are

Pinkyyy · 19/05/2019 19:52

Can you show us the one you already have? Perhaps you just need some reassurance on it.

www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/clothing/jackets-coats/fleece-lined-waterproof-womens-janelle-coat_dark_wreckage.htm

It’s this one, but in dark blue. Even looking at it now in retrospect, it’s got a weird shape. I can’t pull the look off.

Rains do some great waterproof coats and bags

I think I’ve found the one I’m going to buy.

OP posts:
LoafofSellotape · 19/05/2019 20:55

It's sold out, perhaps all the young folk bought them all already ? Wink

TheRedBarrows · 19/05/2019 20:56

Ok the Janelle range isn’t the funkiest that Sea Salt do.
The Tin Cloth ones with toggles are better.

But I am sure you can find something more reasonably priced.
