Help, I need foundation recommendations!!

It seems Rimmel Wake me Up foundation has been discontinued and replaced with Lasting Radiance, which is totally inferior! I've tried L'Oréal True Match and I'm not really impressed tbh. I do wear Estée Lauder Doublewear, but this is too expensive for every day use. Please give me some recommendations!!

I'm 40, my skin is pretty good, but can become oily as I live in a hot climate. I also have the some fine lines. I'm looking for decent coverage, non cakey and long wearing.

I like the primark one better than double wear. It’s less cakey

I've just started on Bourjois City radiance and am pretty pleased so far.

I’ve just been trying different ones - Urban Decay All nighter is brilliant but so pricey. The Ordinary coverage foundation is really good too, unfortunately I didn’t get quite the right shade but as it’s only £6 I’ll buy a couple more and maybe mix them.

Yesterday I put on the Ordinary stuff and then a very thin layer of all nighter over the top and it worked wonders - much cheaper than just using the AN alone.

Primer makes the biggest difference to me though. My skin is currently very different from normal (thanks to The Ordinary peel I have dry patches which I don’t normally have). Benefit porefessional is the only thing that hides my pores and smooths over the dry bits (not perfectly but much better than others I’ve tried)

(I should add, All Nighter is probably what some here consider medium priced - it’s just pricey for me, someone whose usual monthly spend on make up is £0 😂)

Op why don't you look on the Lisa Eldridge website as she knows her stuff and has suggestions for different skin types.

expatinspain · 20/05/2019 11:28

Thanks buster, I'll have a look!

i just tried pheora from instagram- i love it, far superior to double wear without the cakeyness.

I use L'Oréal Infallible for daytime wear. There's a few different finishes but I like the matte medium coverage for daytime. I normally wear ELDW for nights out.

Primark foundation is easily as good as rimmel!

joliejoleen · 26/05/2019 13:30

OP give Body Shop matte clay skin clarifying foundation a go. I've been wearing it for over a week now and it's bloody brilliant. And it costs only a 10er 😁

Go into Debenhams or somewhere with lots of beauty counters and ask for samples..
I worked on the beauty counters for years. Some people don't know about samples! Don't be scared! The girls will give you endless different types of foundations to try..
Go to every counter and ask them to match you, tell them your issues and then get samples. Each little bottle will give you a couple of days worth of foundation to try..that's my best advice I can give 😊

Most people do and a lot of SA's are stingy! I only seem to get samples if I have already bought something. When I read of offers to try a foundation now I don't bother. Fed up of hearing they have nothing in stock. I once worked in a Debenhams and the Clinique counter had plenty of lippie samples that the SA gave to her fellow workers!!!

Bobbi Brown is very generous with foundation samples, so is Clinique but neither are in the price bracket OP has in mind. I always get samples, l think it’s because SAs think “Ah bless, poor little dotty old lady”. Oh, and l’m an habitual red lipstick wearer!
