Help, I need foundation recommendations!!

It seems Rimmel Wake me Up foundation has been discontinued and replaced with Lasting Radiance, which is totally inferior! I've tried L'Oréal True Match and I'm not really impressed tbh. I do wear Estée Lauder Doublewear, but this is too expensive for every day use. Please give me some recommendations!!

I'm 40, my skin is pretty good, but can become oily as I live in a hot climate. I also have the some fine lines. I'm looking for decent coverage, non cakey and long wearing.

I was hunting for foundation recommendations yesterday!

I've been using Lancome but I just cannot afford the price tag right now. From my research, Revlon Colorstay got the best reviews however I ended up going with L’Oreal true match as I felt the colour was a better match (hoping it's ok now after you've said it was no good!) Rimmel with the red top and maybelline FIT me were also recommended.

BusterGonad · 18/05/2019 10:44

I've heard the new No7 one is good for radiance. I can't remember what it's called.

toucantoo · 18/05/2019 10:55

I think L'Oréal true match is brilliant. It's as god as my Chanel and YSL foundations (I am a bit of a foundation whore). What about it does not impress you?

DorothyZbornak · 18/05/2019 11:48

I like ELDW too, but as you say, too expensive for everyday use. I use this one from Primark (touted as ELDW dupe) as my everyday foundation now. It's bloody brilliant and costs the princely sum of a fiver!

This is lovely . They will colour match and give generous samples too

expatinspain · 18/05/2019 15:03

toucanto It doesn't stay on well over the day and settles into my fine lines. It also gets really oily on my skin. I live in Spain, so makeup is tricky because of the heat!!

No7 Hydraluminois is indeed nice.

expatinspain · 18/05/2019 15:30

I'm definitely going to try the Primark one!! I'm coming to the UK in a couple of weeks, so will definitely look at the No. 7 ones. I miss Boots so much living here!!

I bought the Primark one today, not bad at all! Need to see how it lasts but so far so good.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/05/2019 15:49

Maybelline 24 hr stay is good.

Namaste6 · 18/05/2019 15:49

I agree on the L’Oréal true Match; it is exactly like Chanel vitalumiere Aqua. Brilliant!

LoafofSellotape · 18/05/2019 17:52

Just cooked tea and Primark foundation didn't hold up too well tbh so I wouldn't bother.

expatinspain · 18/05/2019 18:09

loaf Ok, I'm going to give that one a miss then! 😂

Thirding the No. 7 hydraluminous. 'Tis excellent.

LoafofSellotape · 18/05/2019 18:20

It's not comparable to ELDW at all,it's a nice sheer to medium coverage but if you're used to DW I think you'll be disappointed. I buy big testers of 20mls of DW on eBay for about £11. Works out much cheaper. I only buy from the big sellers.

No 7 hydroluminous as I said earlier is nice. Revlon Colourstay is the only thing I've ever tried which is comparable to DW, not quite as good but good!

Lookingforpizza · 18/05/2019 18:22

I find the fenty foundation amazing, slightly pricier than high street but not outrageous. Excellent coverage but isn’t too heavy so you don’t get as much caking or creasing imo.

Alsohuman · 18/05/2019 18:49

I tried the Hydraluminous and it made me look about 100, it settled in every line. I’m not even going to suggest my current favourite because it’s far from cheap.

joliejoleen · 18/05/2019 19:03

OP, I've been using L'Oreal true match because it is the only one that has a shade that is EXACTLY like my skin. However, it doesn't last the whole day. By 3pm I'm a greasy mess. I went shopping yesterday and looked at the foundations in the Body Shop (never bought make up from there before) and I ended up buying the Matte Clay clarifying foundation. I have been wearing it since 10am today. I've gone into town twice, cooked dinner, washed dishes etc. and the foundation is still looking really good. I'll take a picture and post it.

joliejoleen · 18/05/2019 19:12

It's not perfect. I have a very oily t zone. However I've found it much better than true match.

DorothyZbornak · 18/05/2019 19:46

Gosh, it lasts pretty much all day on me @loaf, and I have normal to oily skin. I do two thin layers with a brush though so maybe that's the secret?

Gottoloveabagel · 18/05/2019 21:07

I stopped by a Boots yesterday and asked about a better covering foundation at the No7 counter. She colour matched me with the special gadget then tried different foundations on me properly until we got the right one. It was a fab service and I used it myself today and am really pleased with it.

NabooThatsWho · 18/05/2019 21:11

Revolution pro camo foundation that you can buy in Superdrug works for me, great coverage, stays on all day and is cheap.

Flyinggeese · 18/05/2019 23:02

OP I can highly recommend the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour ((strange name!). A touch more coverage than the Wake Me Up, really nice finish and I’ve repurchased again and again. First saw it used by Lisa Eldridge in a tutorial on YouTube.

justilou1 · 18/05/2019 23:16

Go and try the Flower Beauty Light Illusion Foundation. It’s cheap, has a great skin-like finish, has awesome coverage, etc. The lasting power is fab. My skin is extremely combination because I am going through perimenopause (47yrs) and have open pores pouring grease everywhere where there weren’t any before and I’m dry as a desert around my eyes and around the edges. I have never had so many compliments since I started using this foundation. (Oh, and it plays nicely with both primers (smashbox primerizer/twofaced hangover primer and moisturizers I use as well.) - btw I bought the Fenty primer and gave it to my daughter as I prefer the Flower one.

expatinspain · 20/05/2019 09:58

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!!

I tried my True Match again yesterday, as most people here seem to love it, and the same happened. It settles into my fine lines and goes oily/patchy after a few hours, the coverage is also slightly cakey on me. I don't know what's wrong with me 😂. I'm pretty good at applying foundation and use all the usual tricks, primer, apply with slightly damp blending sponge and then a spritz of urban decay setting spray. I think living in a hot country gives you a whole new set of problems and foundations that may work well in cooler weather, just don't perform as well in the heat.
