Why are foot photos tacky?

megletthesecond · 12/05/2019 22:18

I think the DoC has helped design a garden at Chelsea this week? Floral dress anyone?

StaggeringOn · 12/05/2019 23:39

I bumped into Kate and William some years ago outside St James palace. They were a very glamorous couple, and very tall. I’d say Kate is at least 5.9.
I saw Diana at Wimbledon. I was about 20 feet away from her. She was incredibly beautiful. Far more so than her photos. Like a Grecian statue in her facial profile, long limbed and perfect skin. Glowing.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 13/05/2019 00:01

According to google PW is 6ft 3 these photos give a fairly good indication of Kate’s height, I’m guessing 5ft 8?

Which makes William likeliest the second tallest person to be a British monarch when he comes to the throne. He'll be under Edward IV by about an inch and a half and one inch more than Henry VIII and Charles II.

escapade1234 · 13/05/2019 02:06

The foot photo is tacky because it says “here, plebs, you can see my baby’s feet but not his face. You’re not special enough to see his face, but we want some attention anyway.”

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 04:12

I could maybe understand that if all we had seen was his feet but we haven't we had a whole photo call with questions and shots of him meeting the queen. That is as much (more in my opinion) than we have had with other royal children! The foot photo is a little extra thing they decided to do!

Like I said it's not my taste it a little bit too trying to be artistic for me but I maintain there is nothing wrong with it!

7salmonswimming · 13/05/2019 04:35

I think they’re tacky because they say “look at my baby’s feet! Aren’t they the most adorable, precious, cute things ever?”.

All babies have adorable feet and hands. Because they’re tiny and cute. Nothing special about any particular baby. They’re all the same.

BigGreenOlives · 13/05/2019 05:21

Thank you for the new thread Queen. I tried to take pictures of my children’s feet but they weren’t very good.

GoFiguire · 13/05/2019 06:41

The foot photo means LOOK people, no VERRUCAS!

RhubarbIsEvil · 13/05/2019 06:58

Do you remember that I asked about clothes for Royal Parent/Teacher evenings? THIS popped up on my insta feed - how strange is that? Grin. I like the white shirt and navy trousers combo best but I, personally, would wear nice flats with that rather than heels.

LoversLane · 13/05/2019 07:30

It’s a cute pic to celebrate Mothes Day in the States

BertrandRussell · 13/05/2019 07:32

“I think they’re tacky because they say “look at my baby’s feet! Aren’t they the most adorable, precious, cute things ever?”.”
Well, I certainly thought that about mine.......!

Spudlet · 13/05/2019 07:57

I think it's sweet. And a nice pic to celebrate Mother's Day in the US. I just can't get that exercised about a picture of some feet 🤷‍♀️

AudacityOfHope · 13/05/2019 07:58

Everyone thinks their babies tiny toes are the cutest thing ever! And most people spam social media for the first few months while they're in the grip of their newborn obsession Grin

Must only be royalty who are not allowed to behave like that then Confused

IdaBWells · 13/05/2019 08:07

Our 3rd child was our only son and he weighed almost 11lb. The weight was down to his very long limbs (heavy bones) with big hands and feet. Those cute little stickers you can imprint your babies feet on in the hospital had a pretty outline but his huge feet were outside the outline. He also was too long (tall) at birth for the baby bucket/car seat and we had to buy a new one for big babies. He went straight into 3 month clothes at birth.

Needless to say he is a tall 12 year old, slim but 5' 10" and I am 5' 5" and a size 10/12. So he is already looking down at me. He pointed out his feet were looking extra big today and I sighed and told him he is clearly going to be adding a couple of inches to his height this summer. His feet always grow first to support his frame.

"Cute baby feet" in my frame of reference are massive, of the Hagrid variety.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 13/05/2019 08:47

I don't love the foot photo, can't really see the point, but I do think the sentiment expressed was thoughtful. I think we'll see a lot of this sort of thing from the D&DOS.

Missyelliottsaysso · 13/05/2019 08:53

Ok so...Meghan was being annoying by cradling her baby bump and now she is attention seeking by posting pictures of her baby feet?
I fail to see the problem in letting a woman enjoy her pregnancy and subsequent birth on her own terms...if you don’t like, don’t look at her Instagram.

BlingLoving · 13/05/2019 09:02

I've never really seen the point of the feet photo but I think it's pretty standard and lots of people love them. I can't get worked up about it.

It's like my Dad honestly can't understand why photos of our children aren't all taken front on so we can see their face and, at least, upper body - if we have an action shot or a picture of one of them turned sideways he thinks it's a waste! I tease him that he's so old he still remembers the days when you had to stand for a camera and wait 5 seconds for the light to expose.... Grin

BlingLoving · 13/05/2019 09:02

Having said that, a friend's just had a baby and the little girl has the most adorably cuddly arms that always seem to be hugging whoever/whatever she's lying on. I'm in love with those photos....

megletthesecond · 13/05/2019 09:06

bling Grin. They did didn't they. I've got formal photographs of my grandparents where they've had to sit still for the photo.

latedecember1963 · 13/05/2019 09:35

Digital cameras and cameras on phones have revolutionised photography.
When I was growing up you had films with 24 or 36 exposures that had to be sent away to be processed if you didn't have a local agent such as the chemist.
It was seen as an event by my parents to take a photo.
Our great niece was born in Australia in April and we saw pictures of her courtesy of WhatsApp within hours. When I was growing up my parents would still be checking the post to see if one had arrived this morning.

BertrandRussell · 13/05/2019 09:43

“Ok so...Meghan was being annoying by cradling her baby bump and now she is attention seeking by posting pictures of her baby feet?“

Yep. We’ll only have to see another 4 images of him and that’ll be more than we’ve seen of Louis. If we do-then she’ll be attention seeking-if we don’t she’ll be thinking she’s too good for us........

SenecaFalls · 13/05/2019 10:14

And a nice pic to celebrate Mother's Day in the US

She also mentioned that it was Mother's Day in several Commonwealth countries.

latedecember1963 · 13/05/2019 10:22

Yes, my niece celebrated her first Mothers' Day in Australia yesterday.
