Dress for Royal Ascot

Girlonatubetrain2 · 11/05/2019 23:12

I'm going to Royal Ascot for Ladies day this year in the Queen Anne enclosure. So not to strapless, thin straps or bardot.

Never been before but would love to look 'right '.

I'm indian so brown skinned, 5'0, size 8 but very curvy with small bust, heavy upper arms and big hips plus a belly from 2 c sections.

What would suit me? I'm not fashion conscious but would love to look good for once!

Please help! Ideally wouldlike a dress and complimenting headdress (fascinator or hat) - max budget £500 incl dress fascinator, bag, shoes and jewellery

I went last year for the first time. We were also in the Queen Anne enclosure. I studied the dress code and ordered about 20 dresses that fitted the requirements. When we got there however I noticed that loads of people had completely ignored the dress code! Strapless, thin straps, mini dresses, they were all there! I got my dress from Warehouse. They have some lovely dresses again this year.

Thank you so much! Thats really reassuring . . . Gives me much more scope

You can wear national dress to Ascot, including in the Royal Enclosure, so you could wear a sari if you wanted to; you don’t have to wear a hat if that’s the case.

Otherwise a full graphic skirt from somewhere like Ted Baker and a neat Chanel style jacket from somewhere like Zara or Massimo Dutti would balance your figure, and also give you more re-wear options than a dress. Don’t wear a massive statement hat as it will just annoy you - something small and jaunty is best and won’t bug the people standing behind you.

Don’t wear high heels as you’ll sink into the grass and take an apron if you’re picnicking as you don’t want to wreck your finery before you’ve even shown it off.

I'm british asian so comfortable in western clothing - mentioned the Indian to give an idea of skin colour if that affected dresses suggested based on colour

I looked on warehouse but unfortunately they dont seem to do a petite range. If i wear 'normal ' dresses - the hips and waist tend to be too low

I'm not very good at shopping so any links / suggestions to what might look would be very appreciated

Got it, I am Indian born and bred Grin.

Let’s find you some links.

I like this dress it nips in at the smallest part of the waist and then flows over your hips and tummy. It also has a control lining.

Shoes are Ted Baker navy jland.partners/2HlnX0B

and a hat www.hostiehats.co.uk/product/burghley-hat/

and bag bit.ly/2vSNcC0 very classic deco style

Now colour wise I've seen a cobalt blue look beautiful against your skin colour. So you can also adapt the hat colour anyway or choose your own

GreenTulips · 12/05/2019 10:58

Do you need knee length for longer

BelindasGleeTeam · 12/05/2019 11:04

Your dress should be knee length

Don't wear high heels. You'll sink and get sore feet.

The dress @slaymill linked is beautiful. It's very simple so you can go for it with the hat etc and have a dress you can re use and wear loads.

Slaymill · 12/05/2019 11:25

Block heels are more suitable for race days, though I might take two pairs one for photo's and a pair to wear ! Can't have enough shoes

BelindasGleeTeam · 12/05/2019 11:28

I used to stick a pair of ballet pumps in my bag that fold up for the point where my feet were burning.

Definitely block heels!

Here are a fair few links, I'm really sorry if they are not clicky ones, as I'm not quite sure how to do them!

Just wanted to say, whatever you choose to wear, have a fabulous day!

jeaux90 · 12/05/2019 12:22

I've been the last two years and bought a dress from pretty kitty each year. The fitted dresses with capped sleeves come in a variety of prints and colours, good quality and affordable.

A full hat at Ascot is a pain in the arse, go for something smaller than can be pinned in if you are having an up do done.

Enjoy! It's a fabulous day.

Girlonatubetrain2 · 12/05/2019 20:38

Thank you all - apologies for the delay

Went real life shopping today - bought 3 dresses - let me know what you think

Plan to also order the ones recommended to compare and make a decision

Other than my wedding, have never had the chance to dress up so planning to look fantastic!

I hope you had a wonderful shopping day.

I think Dress no1 is the most flattering out your three options. Dress no2 is not selling itself and Dress no3 looks fab but, not for Ascot.

GreenTulips · 12/05/2019 20:43

Love the first one!

UCOinanOCG · 12/05/2019 20:45

I don't like the yellow one on you at all. I think of them all i prefer the first one.

grumiosmum · 12/05/2019 20:46

All nice dresses but you will need a light jacket or coat as a coverup in case it is chilly - the weather can be very unpredictable.

Comfy shoes - block heels or wedges.

A good, stylish hat will really finish the look off and make you feel fabulous. Feathers are very flattering.

TokyoSushi · 12/05/2019 20:47

First one!

Gonegrey31 · 12/05/2019 20:51

I love dress 1, you look fabulous in it . Maybe a small navy hat with it ?

Miseryisabutterfly · 12/05/2019 21:10

The yellow is gorgeous on you OP!

GemmeFatale · 13/05/2019 19:38

First one is lovely
