Is pillow talk worth it?

Thanks to you knowledgeable mumsnetters I finally built a collection of 5/6 Mac lipsticks that I like an go well with my pale, cool skin tone.
The best are probably Myrrh, Patisserie and Modesty. Velvet Teddy is a bit maybe maybe not.

I was thinking about trying Pillow Talk by CT (mainly because it looks lush and I am a sucker for shiny things). But is it more on the orange / brown like Velvet Teddy? I think more blue/ pink suits me better

Thank you!

I'm cool toned and my favourite neutrals are Faux and Brave from Mac. I have CT pillow talk and its a bit blah to be honest. It's drying and very matt.

Ocies · 10/05/2019 20:12

I love it - it suits my colouring so wear it everyday

Sparklyring · 10/05/2019 20:51

I've not tried Pillow Talk but I wear supersize lip liner and secret Salma lipstick every day and they last really well. Lots of the reviews for Pillow Talk mention that it's more browny than pinky.

NotANewUser2 · 10/05/2019 20:55

I have the CT Super Cindy and love it, it’s pinker than Pillow Talk.

windysowindy · 11/05/2019 07:43

Oh @EraOfTheGrey you want me to buy more Mac don't you

Thanks @NotANewUser2 I shall have a look

Oh yes I fear it will be more brown than pink
And I dont like drying!

It’s nice. But it doesn’t have an miraculous staying-on powers. Rimmel’s ‘Asia’ is a very close match for much less cash - if it’s just the colour you are after.

CatalogueUniverse · 11/05/2019 07:57

It’s browny on me and I’m pale, cool toned with darkish lips. Shame!

Chartreuser · 11/05/2019 08:30

I bought it and really don't rate it at all. It's highly perfumed like the sorry my grandma wore when I was little, is incredibly matte and unforgiving, has pesrlescence which I really didn't expect and is far browner then I was expecting. I am a deep summer colouring and was expecting a more dusky pink colour.

I have Maybelline Velvet beige which is much creamier, not exact colour match but pretty good and so much cheaper

Noloudnoises · 11/05/2019 09:58

Hated pillow talk. Looks brown on me. And very matte and drying. But. Mac lipgloss in lush. (Or lust?) looks exactly what I wanted pillow talk to be. It looked like the pictures of pillow talk! So try that and perhaps Mac have a corresponding lipstick to that?

windysowindy · 11/05/2019 10:16

@CatalogueUniverse you are describing me!!!

@CatalogueUniverse you are describing me!!!
@Chartreuser I hate perfumed lip stuff! Ok not selling it, I shall stick to Mac
@Noloudnoises I don't have any lipgloss, I found them sticky in the past. I have Mac matte, sheer and satin. Does it last?

I would go to a CT counter and try it out.I got a sample size in a beauty box and it’s ok on me but not brilliant but I’m more warm toned. I like the formula though and still wear it occasionally for an understated but groomed look.

windysowindy · 11/05/2019 11:10

Thank @Lumene I live so far from any stockists 😭

The lip cheat pencil in the same shade is much nicer. I loved the pencil and apply all over my lips on top of balm, so thought I'd get the lipstick, but it looks slightly bronzer on me and makes me look a bit dead. The pencil, over lip balm with perhaps a clear gloss over the top is nice

shitpark · 11/05/2019 12:01

Looks browner, not bronzer

TuppenceTwo · 11/05/2019 12:04

I find it more pink than nude/brown personally! I think it suits cool tones. It’s quite a waxy texture though. Mac lip liners feel nicer but probably don’t last as long.

TuppenceTwo · 11/05/2019 12:07

Oh sorry thought you were talking about the liner version! I do much prefer Mac lipstick to CT’s.

Thinkle · 11/05/2019 12:56

I’m also cool toned and got super excited about pillow talk... it looks terrible on me too.
Another vote for Mac Faux here!!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/05/2019 13:09

Try mixing Patisserie and Velvet Teddy and you'll get a reasonable replica.

Housewife2010 · 11/05/2019 16:19

I found it far too drying. I'd recommend Laura Mercier Baby Lips. It's a pink toned nude and is sheer and moisturising. It's been my summer lipstick for several years ( I prefer Bare Lips the rest of the year).

NigellasGuest · 11/05/2019 16:32

I dont really rate the lipstick although I love the lip liner.

MoltonSilver · 11/05/2019 18:36

Pillow talk superstar lips is pinkish on me if I wear it on its own but turns brownish if I use the matching lip pencil. Superstar lips is much nicer than the mat finish.

They'll try it on your lips at the counter so you can decide if the colour is right.

Sparklyring · 12/05/2019 16:19

@MoltonSilver Are colours between the lipstick and superstar lips very different?

Sexnotgender · 12/05/2019 16:22

I’m pale and cool toned and my everyday go to lipstick is urban decay comfort matte in criminal. Absolutely love it and get loads of compliments on it. Velvet teddy was too brown for me, I gave it to my daughter.

Hoppinggreen · 12/05/2019 16:23

It really didn’t suit me, I think it was the almost same colour as my lips.
I had to give it to DD
