Dare I say it .. M&S has some good clothing stuff in

I treat myself to lunch there once a week

I was in today and found myself being drawn to the clothing for the first time in forever. Lots of plain and patterned jumpers at good prices, some nice cropped trousers and a non iron work top that I've tried on at home and is surprisingly flattering.

Lots of plain basics and good/ flattering cuts.

Is someone at M&S finally listening?

Yes I agree!

I bought stripey tees ( with modern contrast colour neckline) and cotton ankle grazer trousers. And there's a kimono jacket I'm after too when I next get paid, in a nice soft washed black ( Per Una)

Patterned jumpers aren't my thing - I'll let you have them! ;-)

NiteFlights · 10/05/2019 10:10

I agree - I’ve bought a pair of trousers, a bag and a few ‘straight’ t shirts, and find myself actually looking at the website. Still loads of polyestery stuff, but a step in the right direction. I’m usually the youngest person in my local branch by about 30 years though, and I’m 43.

Whitney168 · 10/05/2019 10:10

Just had a quick nosey - I think the M&S designers have been looking at Hush, various things with that kind of feel to them.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/05/2019 11:36

youllhave the reviews of the kimono are erm......mixed

Tight shoulders , the material that a mechanics overalls are made of, Monty Don's gardening jacket ....

Others are good .

It might be an odd sized items , if you got up a size for shoulders then you have extra fabric elsewhere .

SteelRiver · 10/05/2019 11:39

I love M&S Everywear ankle grazer trousers and have a few pairs in different colours, but I've also been impressed with some of their recent tops, too. I ordered a camisole top and t-shirt online. I was a bit dubious but I love them both; the fabrics are very flattering.

I think they are great for basics, too. I know a lot of MNers turn their noses up at M&S, but I don't care.

Elllllle · 10/05/2019 11:57

The everywear trousers go baggy on me within hours. I donated mine within months. Does anyone have links to anything they rate?

Elllllle · 10/05/2019 12:02

Just had a look.m at the jumpers. Mostly dire looking cardigans or high necked fitted very meh numbers. Happy to be proven wrong.

bitchfromhell · 10/05/2019 12:12

Have not bought a thing there in years until last week when I got some high waisted straight jeans which are so comfortable over my recent c section pooch. Also got some long sleeved striped t shirts that wash and tumble ok as I'm constantly covered in baby vomit atm. The last few basics I bought were from H&M and although cheaper, washed once and were ruined.

youllhavehadyourtea · 10/05/2019 13:21

the material that a mechanics overalls are made of, Monty Don's gardening jacket ....

yeah, that all sounds good to me! I like the utility look.

But I'm wary of the tight shoulders, yes . WIll try a couple on.

And report back :-)

teta · 10/05/2019 13:29

I bought the Kimono jacket......, then sent it promptly back as the jacket was large everywhere but in the shoulders.
The slouchy denim jacket though is indeed lovely.

hihellohihey · 10/05/2019 13:32

I agree!

MelanieCheeks · 10/05/2019 13:33

Short sleeve cardis! At last!

youllhavehadyourtea · 10/05/2019 13:45

Ok, I'm going on a recce...

back in a bit .

JugzyMalone · 10/05/2019 13:51

Hope someone from the Hush thread comes over and tells us (me) what to buy Smile

florriepeck · 10/05/2019 14:14

I bought a lovely very fitted t shirt in there yesterday: caught my eye as I walked through to buy knickers.
Usually their clothes are frumpy and shapeless.

Neolara · 10/05/2019 14:23

I wandered into m & S last week for the first time in ages and thought exactly the same.

Elllllle · 10/05/2019 14:26

....links? Short sleeve cardis ... Confused

dreamingofsun · 10/05/2019 15:23

i like their swimming costumes, nickers, jeans and sports leggings. some of their tshirts look nice and are much cheaper than say boden.

Lottapianos · 10/05/2019 15:27

I don't really understand the hatred of M&S. It's true that there are always some pure horrors to be found, but theres usually plenty of good stuff too. I'm 39, love clothes, love colour and patterns and am pretty confident with experimenting fashion-wise and I would say I buy more from M&S than anywhere else

youllhavehadyourtea · 10/05/2019 15:28

Well I went to try on the kimono jacket and yes, a bit tight across the shoulders in my usual 10, fits fine in the 12. I liked the fabric and the colour.

However, the only 12 they had the collar was sitting all wrong, so I will order online.

Actually, the whole place was going like a fair - really, really busy - queue for the changing rooms, amd queues at the tills. I was quite pleased not be buying there and then.

Rarfy · 10/05/2019 15:31

I've just bought their per una jeans. Usually buy river island or asos but very impressed. Also got a boyfriend vneck tshirt I'm sure to live in.

StyleOfTheTimes · 10/05/2019 16:03

Apparently they’re high waisted jeggings are really good. I’m 12 weeks post natal so I was planning on getting some to hold everything in 🤣 also there’s a nice denim jacket in a mid to light wash. Definelty looks like they’re upping they’re game a bit!

dreamingofsun · 10/05/2019 16:26

styleofthe - i've had quite a lot of their jeggings over the years. first lot great, second lot i had to go up a size as so skinny on the calves, last lot have been more mixed....some of the material is a lot more stretching and less denimy if that makes sense. But at £15 and less with the discount they are good value. I think this is one of the things they need to tighten up on - consistent design, as well as sizing and stock control
