Dare I say it .. M&S has some good clothing stuff in

I treat myself to lunch there once a week

I was in today and found myself being drawn to the clothing for the first time in forever. Lots of plain and patterned jumpers at good prices, some nice cropped trousers and a non iron work top that I've tried on at home and is surprisingly flattering.

Lots of plain basics and good/ flattering cuts.

Is someone at M&S finally listening?

I got a great jumpsuit from there this week with sleeves and a lovely white t shirt.

gotmychocolateimgood · 10/05/2019 16:32

I recently had a gift card and a spent it quite easily. 5 items and only one item is going back, its a t shirt that is massive. I like one of the other tops so much that I'm exchanging the massive t shirt for another identical top to keep for the future.

I've bought more things in M&S in the last few weeks than I have in years.
The high waisted leggings are great and I got a lovely linen white t shirt.
I'm really impressed with their quality.

I just can't forgive them for stopping the original 5 pocket jeggings, which were a much better fit for me and much better fabric. I'm finding lots of their clothes are now skimpy in length too. I bought a new work blouse that won't stay tucked in and I swear even their socks are shorter than they used to be. I don't object to M&S styles as such, but their stuff just doesn't seem to fit me.

hellswelshy · 10/05/2019 17:17

Agree. I have my eye on some of the jersey peg trousers, and the stripey tops selection is great! Bought some gorgeous navy sunglasses for under £10. And the black gladiator sandals are calling me...

SmilingButClueless · 10/05/2019 17:21

Got a couple of pairs of basic black trousers for work, for the first time in ages. Cotton, flattering cut and both pairs have pockets! I’m finding their trousers work for me better than their tops at the moment, but that’s not just M&S to be fair.

Applesbananaspears · 10/05/2019 17:41

Thank rediscovered them last year. Slim jeans, relaxed tshirts, the Vega copy trainers, bikini’s, some plain winter jumpers, cashmere and their shoes are great, flatforms for work, nice casual loafers

TSSDNCOP · 10/05/2019 19:32

Nope. Went in there with a gift card burning a hole in my purse. Came out with gift card intact.

I have a modern, airy M&S near me, and also an older, shabbier town centre store. I have to say the clothes look much better in the new store - and not so great in the dowdier store. So it does depend on your local store I think, how the clothes come across.

Much as I'm liking the clothes......the jewellery, uggh. It looks like its all been designed with Theresa May in mind.

Applesbananaspears · 10/05/2019 20:03

I agree, the old knackered stores have a load of rubbish in them but the big ones really do have some nice stuff.

goose1964 · 11/05/2019 01:26

I'm currently wearing a t-shirt dress from M&S. Maybe not the most stylish dress but it's comfortable, ideal for lounging around in.

Decormad38 · 11/05/2019 06:16

Im so susceptible. Now I’m going to town this morning so I can shop at M & S!

youllhavehadyourtea · 11/05/2019 10:11

he old knackered stores have a load of rubbish in them but the big ones really do have some nice stuff.

But it's the same clothes?

I think the old shabby stores are a huge problem for MArks. Difficult to present things well in a tired space.

Gwenhwyfar · 11/05/2019 11:15

"Short sleeve cardis! At last!"

What for? Isn't a cardi to keep your arms warm?

LindsayDentonsCat · 11/05/2019 11:22

I signed up to Try Tuesday and they often send me ideas which I would actually wear.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/05/2019 12:08

Has anyone tried their jeans and if so are they any good? Dortothy perkins for years have been my go to but now they've changed the material or something and they fit so bad.

madamedeluxe · 11/05/2019 13:15

I haven’t bought clothes in there for years although I go in the food department so usually have a look. I have just bought a lovely silky v neck top for the summer, a pair of loose trousers (not sure about them yet,) a stripy t shirt for dd and underwear.

There was another thread about how things had improved and there were lots recommendations for trousers which look really good online (couldn’t see them in store.)

Applesbananaspears · 11/05/2019 15:20

But it's the same clothes?

No the small stores tend to be the most knackered ones and they’re marrchabdised according to their core market which is generally to sell the highest sellers and the basic ranges. The more high end and contemporary ranges tend to be in the larger and out of town stores and they tend to be the stores that have been invested in.

MelanieCheeks · 11/05/2019 16:58

Short sleeved cardis - my look is very similar to Bernadette off of Big Bang - dress and a cardi. Fitted if poss and 3/4 sleeves are brilliant. M&S for ages there seemed to have only one style of cardi, so any kind of variation is good! I accept they are not for everyone.

LaPufalina · 11/05/2019 17:07

Another fan of their jeggings here! Dropped a lot of weight postpartum feeding a hungry baby and had a c section, still a bit of a jelly tum and they hold me in and are so flattering that I bought five pairs Blush might've been six Blush
Tbf all my other trousers suddenly didn't fit and £15 is a bargain! Will need some more work-appropriate legwear before I return from mat leave though, for the time being I'm living in these (also brilliant at baby classes, no builders' bum when bending down)
