Help me not have white legs......pleeeease

Toooldtobearsed2 · 07/05/2019 11:54

We are off on hols in a months time and my legs are white. The rest of me is quite tanned looking, but it is wind burn rather than suntan (spend most of my day outdoors, no matter what the weather).
I categorically, and I cannot stress this enough, will not apply false tan. I have tried and failed on too many occasions to even consider it, i dont care how fool proof it is, it is not Tooold proof.
I seem to remember being able to get a moisturiser that had a gradual tanning effect - Johnsons???? I did use that (about 20 years ago) and was happy it just took the glare of whiteness off my legs, but I cant see it anywhere.

I am wittering. I apologise 😂

Can anyone recommend a none disaster guaranteed gradual tan moisturiser thing?

This is it! Just don't get the shimmer one, it's hella sparkly!

Teddybear45 · 07/05/2019 12:03

I’m Indian with white legs. If like me you have a lightly golden colour on the rest of you, the Dove summer one does work. But don’t expect miracles. My goal has always been just to ensure a light sheen and that veins aren’t prominent.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 07/05/2019 12:30

I’m similar, weathered on top but my legs make a vampire look tanned. I use Garnier summer body- the light one. I have a similar goal to Teddy though in that I just want to take the edge off the whiteness not achieve a ‘full’ tan that matches my top half. If I did I’d probably use the dark version.

ButterMyBiscuit · 07/05/2019 12:35

Isle of paradise tanning drops. Ok, technically fake tan, but genuinely (I promise!!) Fool proof. You grab some moisturiser/body lotion, mix 2-12 drops in, then apply as you would any other lotion. Easy to tailor how tanned you want to be, builds up and wears off evenly, quick, and doesn't smell too bad.

Same!

I am rubbish at applying fake tan (am v impatient) but have been using the Dove gradual for dark skin. Was about £3 in Home bargains.

Smells okay - and worked a treat - gave me a nice, gentle all over base colour for my recent trip abroad.

MadeForThis · 07/05/2019 13:04

Garnier summer body is easy to apply and smells ok. I use the dark one several times a week.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 07/05/2019 14:00

Brill!
Thank you all so much, i knew if anyone knew, you lot would😁

Shopping trip tomorrow so will seek out Dove and Garnier. Love the idea of the drops butter, so will investigate them as a 'just in case'.

Thank you all 😘

As an alternative to the tanning drops already mentioned (which seem yo to be online only), I use the Clarins version of the same. Bought in Boots.

I always end up super streaky from the cheap build up moisturising creams. Never had a streak from a single Clarins fake tan product, they are all fabulous.

SlipperOrchid · 07/05/2019 15:33

You have white legs. You do not live somewhere sunny so they won’t tan naturally. You don’t want fake tan. You want tanned legs. Can’t you see you are asking the impossible?

Tinted moisturizing self tans are fake tans. FWIW I have tried MANY tans as I have skin that will burn and go white again and Dove and the rest are not foolproof either - because they are fake tans! If you do decide to use then, watch out for your ankles and behind your knees particularly and make sure your legs are hairless!

Vita liberata body blur in latte light is what you’re after

i like this - easy to apply and nice natural look for pale skin wanting a slight tan, not orangey.

BringMeTea · 07/05/2019 16:16

Yes Body Blur might be best for you.

I used the dove one, feeling hopeful, and my legs are still milky white but with a couple of orange blotches. Meanwhile, around each ankle is a band of orange - as if I'm wearing orange socks. I don't understand how this has happened - can someone tell me where I went wrong? I was careful to apply uniformly but this always happens when I use fake tan!!!

Thegirlisnotright · 07/05/2019 18:23

I use a tanning mitt even for gradual tan to help apply it evenly!

Toooldtobearsed2 · 07/05/2019 18:34

Oh God, so you CAN fail with the gradual stuff...... and I had such high hopes😁

Well, will buy tomorrow and try. I will try for a week, which then leaves me 3 weeks to undo any damage 😂

I will shave my legs, exfoliate and take my time, carefully applying and pigs might fly
Or, could i just get some cheapo foundation and 'makeup' my legs every morning?

I haven’t tried but have read good reports about Sally Hanson’s airbrush legs. But.......and it is a big but...... I have read .if your legs get wet, sweaty or it rains, it comes running off!

ProperVexed · 07/05/2019 19:36

Both the Dove and Garnier are on offer In Tesco at the moment. I bought the light tan Dove. Wish me luck.......

beanaseireann · 07/05/2019 20:18

Nobody is as bad as me at applying fake tan. Dove streaks on me. As does Garnier Summer Body.
My fool proof 'No white leg look' is a wash off mouse, similar to Sally Hanson Airbrush legs but better!
It's Rimmel Sunshimmer Instant tan make up mousse. I get it in Golden, which looks alarmingly orange but is fine for my legs. It may come in other comours.
It washes off.

Kwackerly · 07/05/2019 20:26

It's all fake tan., Even the moisturiser ones. I'm really pale and use fakebake 60 minute. Comes with gloves and a mitt. Put any old moisturiser on your feet and knees first, just a bit. Do not shave prior to tanning it will go streaky. Wash it off after an hour for a light tan effect. It lasts 5 days. Job done!

myidentitymycrisis · 07/05/2019 21:06

why not get a spray tan ?
I have never done this btw, like you I only just manage the Dove cream, but someone at work had one for a recent holiday and it looked good, like she'd been on holiday.

myidentitymycrisis · 07/05/2019 21:10

can I ask a slightly hijack question?
Can anyone explain the difference between what I call the regular Dove

www.boots.com/dove/dove-skincare/dove-skincare-gradual-tan
and this summer revived version?

www.boots.com/dove-dermaspa-summer-revived-fair-med-lotion-200ml-10197534

thanks

TokyoSushi · 07/05/2019 21:10

Make sure you get the dark Dove, it's not 'dark, dark' but the light one doesn't do anything!

emma6776 · 07/05/2019 21:12

I don’t understand how Dove gets such good reviews! I have years experience of using full on fake tans and gradual tans and it’s the only one that, guaranteed, makes me streaky. Plus it’s very sticky and biscuity scented. The skinny tan gradual tanner (pump top one) is the bees knees!
